I discovered a Mages Guild expedition at the ruins of Ezduiin. A scholar named Telenger is in charge.


Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Talk to Telenger at the Ezduiin camp.
  2. Find his student, Andewen.
  3. Collect the two runes.
  4. Search the undercroft with Andewen for the missing researchers.
  5. Talk to Meldil.
  6. Release or kill four assistants.
  7. Talk to Andewen, who tells you to kill Uricantar.
  8. Enter the Inner Sanctum.
  9. Talk to Uricantar's projection.
  10. Find Uricantar.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Finding Telenger and his assistantsEdit

Talking to either Parmtilir, Rellus, or Umbarile near Ezduiin will send you to Telenger the Artificer. Either speak with one of them or go to Telenger directly to begin the quest. Telenger will name issues with spirits, supplies, and missing people. More precisely: Andewen and her team, which he asks you to find. Asking a bit further for info, he will reveal he came to find The Mallari-Mora, an ancient talisman that took the lives of everyone in Ezduiin, cursing their souls. He will also explain that the undead in the area are new and he believes the cause to be someone rediscovering the Mora. If you ask him whether anyone else is missing, he will mention Sirinque. Talking to her will start the concurrent quest An Act of Kindness. (After defeating a spirit, there will be a random chance of using her rune-etched crystal to free a defeated spirit from the bonds of Nirn.) Completing Sirinque's quest first will prove useful if you wish to avoid fighting every spirit in the ruins.

Go talk to Andewen. She and a few others are behind magical barriers on the grounds. She tells you she needs more runes. Go around the area to pick them up, then go to the undercroft entrance and give them to her. She will use them to unlock the door. Inside, you'll find Meldil, who will talk about trying to stop Uricantar and trying to help the other researchers. He will also tell you he's using the others to keep a gate to a shard of Aetherius open. He will tell you that, in order to close the gate, you need to either unbind the students or kill them. You will receive Meldil's Amulet to help you accomplish this. He also warns there are spirits named Thirsters inside the ruin. If you talk to Andewen before continuing, she will tell you she used to be close to Uricantar until Telenger cast him out of the guild and forbade him from using magic. He did this because Uricantar didn't care for boundaries and would do horrible things to get power.

A Thirster

Continue into the ruin. Note that the Thirsters won't attack you. If you touch the aura of a Thirster, you will be transported to the Spirit Realm and must exit by finding one of several Aetherial Gateways inside the ruin (these are marked on the UESP map of Ezduiin Undercroft). Entering the Spirit Realm results in you becoming a target for Baleful Ghosts, who are aggressive.

The students you are looking for are Bolion, Elenya, Eryon, and Jiluza. Go to each student. Either kill them or use the amulet to enter the Spirit Realm and destroy their binding stone. You will be transported back to the world of the living after destroying the binding stone. Each student will also give you a temporary protection spell after saving them that allows you to go near the Thirsters without consequences. After you've either killed or saved each student, return to Andewen. The saved students will be with her.

Kill UricantarEdit

Now that everyone is either dead or back to safety and Meldil's Aetherial gate is dispelled, it's time to deal with the bad guy causing these problems. Beyond the dispelled gate, you will find a projection of Uricantar. Uricantar isn't sane, anymore, due to his search for power at any cost. He'll also mention that he wanted to perform the life-binding with Andewen, revealing that "being close" was more than friendship. After this, enter the inner sanctum. Inside, you will find him and an Altmer named Thundermaul. After you've killed them both, return to Telenger. Hand over the Mallari-Mora to finish the quest.

NotesEdit

  • The smaller rune chest doesn't physically open when interacting with it, unlike the large one.
  • The icon for the Rune of Magnus oddly depicts the Ancient Nord whale symbol, while described as an Altmer rune.
  • While the objective description after acquiring the runes states to meet Andewen in the center of the ruins, the undercroft is in the northern edge of the ruins instead.
  • The icon of Meldil's Amulet depicts a ring rather than a talisman or amulet.
  • The icon of the Mallari-Mora oddly depicts the Ancient Nord eagle symbol.
  • After you've defeated Uricantar, the quest marker on-screen will lead you back the way you came, though looking at the map shows the shortest way out. You can ignore the on-screen marker (leading to the right) and head to the entrance (to the left) instead, avoiding running through the dungeon and Thirsters again.

BugsEdit

  • It is possible to destroy the binding stones holding the scholars captive while not on the objective to do so. This results in a duplicate model of them running off to the rendezvous point (at which they will also appear at) while the original scholar remains trapped with a new binding stone. The optional objective "Leave the Spirit Realm" will remain even after you have been placed out of it after destroying the binding stone. ?
  • Using the option to enter the spirit realm with the amulet while speaking to any of the captive scholars while under the effect of a Thirster Shield will result in the flash transition occurring but you will not actually be placed into the spirit realm. ?
  • While it is listed as an Optional Step, once you have saved all the scholars, the "Leave the Spirit Realm" objective is to be treated as a requirement otherwise the scholars won't be present at the rendezvous point and the quest cannot be progressed until exiting the spirit realm. ?
