Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Speak to Traacillius at the Census and Excise Office in Anvil about tax collection with either...
  2. (Optional) Pay the outstanding taxes yourself (ends quest, rewards 2x Standard Restore Health Potion).
  3. In either order:
    • Speak to K'Raskha at the East Empire Company Warehouse in Anvil and either:
      • Demand 70 gold with 75+ disposition.
      • Demand more (110 gold) with 90+ disposition.
    • Talk to Sleeps-in-Grass in the field west of Brina Cross and either:
      • Press him on tax collection with 70+ disposition for 50 gold.
      • Press him on tax collection and demand more (80 gold, requires 90+ disposition).
      • Trust in his story and collect no taxes from Sleeps-in-Grass.
  4. Bring your collected taxes to Traacillius and hand over only what was owed (rewards 2x Standard Restore Health potions).
    • If you reported Sleeps-in-Grass' story to Traacillius...
      1. Return to Brina Cross and ask residents about Sleeps-in-Grass' taxes.
      2. Speak to Medina Talgiana at Talgiana Orchard.
      3. Report back to Traacillius on tax collection.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

The Argonian Traacillius captains an understaffed office in Anvil's Marina. Speak to him and he'll mention his difficulties with tax collection. Offer to help while having either 90+ disposition with him, membership of the Kingdom of Anvil, or at least five points of Cyrodiil Reputation, and he'll agree that your help would be useful. He asks that you collect 50 gold from Sleeps-in-Grass west of Brina Cross, and 70 gold from K'Raskha in the Garden Quarter.

If you wish, you can speak to Traacilius again and offer to pay the outstanding sum, in which case the quest will end and he will reward you with two Standard Restore Health potions.

Otherwise, you can collect from these individuals in either order.

K'RaskhaEdit

K'Raskha works at the East Empire Company warehouse, opposite the ship Hearthrend. You'll find him on the warehouse's top floor. Ask him about tax collection. With 75+ disposition he'll agree to pay the 70 gold demanded, but you can press for more and, with 90+ disposition, he'll accede to those demands - passing you 110 gold in total.

Sleeps-in-GrassEdit

To reach Sleeps-in-Grass, travel to Brina Cross (there's a cart that runs between there and Anvil's gates). The Argonian works a Spike Rice field to the west of town. Ask him about tax collection. He'll insist that he's already paid a tax collector named Diledi. If you do not believe him, you can press him on the tax collection topic again and (with 70+ disposition) he will offer to pay the missing 50 gold. You can press him for even more (80 gold), and with 90+ disposition he will comply.

Reporting BackEdit

Taxes (or perhaps in Sleeps-in-Grass' case, explanations) collected, return to Traacilius. He'll reward you with two Standard Restore Health potions regardless of whether you took Sleeps-in-Grass' money or not. If you collected more than what was owed, then admitting to that will have Traacilius report you as a criminal - putting a bounty on your head.

The quest ends here - unless you reported Sleeps-in-Grass' story. In this case, Traacilius asks that you investigate the claim. It's time to head back to Brina Cross.

Investigating DilediEdit

Asking Brina Cross residents about Sleeps-in-Grass' taxes will see you pointed to Medina Talgiana at Talgiana Orchard. She's Sleeps-in-Grass' employer, and her orchard is on the Gold Road leading back to Anvil. You'll find Mediana in her manor there. She'll confirm the Argonian's story. You can now report back to Traacilius about tax collection to be rewarded with thanks, and a copy of The Dreadful Theft, a Mercantile skill book.

Alternatively, you can confront Diledi before reporting back to Traacilius - resulting in combat. This irritates Traacilius, and will mean you receive no further reward.

10 Traacillius, the tax collector in Anvil, is missing tax payments from two individuals: Sleeps-in-Grass, an Argonian who lives on a farm of Brina Cross and owes 50 gold, and K'Raskha, a Khajiit working in the East Empire Company warehouse in Anvil's Garden Quarter who owes 70 gold. He asked me to help him with tax collection, and I agreed to collect the payments and return them to Traacillius.
20 I delivered the payment from K'Raskha to Traacillius, and was rewarded with a few healing potions. I also told him that Sleeps-in-Grass had claimed he'd already paid his taxes to Diledi. Traacillius directed me to go to Brina Cross and ask if anyone else saw Diledi collect Sleeps-in-Grass' taxes. He insisted I should not to discuss this with Diledi.
25 I delivered the payments from K'Raskha and Sleeps-in-Grass to Traacillius, and was rewarded with a few healing potions. I also told him that Sleeps-in-Grass had claimed he'd already paid his taxes to Diledi. Traacillius directed me to go to Brina Cross and ask if anyone else saw Diledi collect Sleeps-in-Grass' taxes. He insisted I should not to discuss this with Diledi.
30 Medina Talgiana vouched for Sleeps-in-Grass' claim.
35 I spoke to Diledi about Sleeps-in-Grass' taxes, and she attacked me.
40 Finishes quest  I told Traacillius that Diledi attacked me. He was disappointed that I'd disobeyed orders by contacting her, but accepted this as proof of her malfeasance.
50 Finishes quest  I reported my findings to Traacillius. He has said he'll return Sleeps-in-Grass' money to him. Diledi will be handled internally. He gave me a book for my efforts.
55 Finishes quest  I reported my findings to Traacillius. Diledi will be handled internally. He gave me a book for my efforts.
70 Finishes quest  I brought Traacillius the payments from Sleeps-in-Grass and K'Raskha, and he rewarded me with a few healing potions.
80 Finishes quest  Traacillius thanked me for helping paying Sleeps-in-Grass' and K'Raskha's taxes myself. He rewarded me with a few healing potions.
90 Finishes quest  I returned to Traacillius and handed over the taxes owed by Sleeps-in-Grass and K'Raskha. I also gave the extra money I convinced them to part with. However, Traacillius was outraged that I'd extorted tax money from citizens, and declared me a criminal.
100 Finishes quest  Traacillius told me I'm responsible for the deaths of taxpayers, and declared me a criminal.
