The Forgemaster's Fingers

Quick WalkthroughEdit

  1. Approach an Orc stronghold.
  2. Speak with a member of the stronghold.
  3. Speak with a guard in the stronghold, if not the same person as the previous step.
  4. Retrieve the Forgemaster's Fingers.
  5. Return the Forgemaster's Fingers to the chief of that stronghold.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

When you first approach any Orc stronghold, a guard may stop you and tell you that the stronghold is exclusively for Orcs and that no outsiders will be permitted inside. As the other Orcs in the stronghold will tell you that you are not welcome, you must find an Orc guard in order to trigger the quest. If you ask the guard how they can be persuaded to grant you access, they will tell you to reclaim an item: the Forgemaster's Fingers. This item, which grants the wielder a +12 bonus to Smithing, can be retrieved from a randomly determined location.

When you return and give the Forgemaster's Fingers to the chief, you will be permitted to enter all strongholds and will be named Blood-Kin of the Orcs.

Radiant OptionsEdit

This is a radiant quest that you can receive from an Orc living in any Orc stronghold except Largashbur. You will be asked to bring the item back to that stronghold's chief. The location of the quest item is randomly determined based upon the quest-giver's hold (see table below for specific options).

Hold Stronghold Quest Giver Chief Possible Dungeons
The Reach Dushnikh Yal Arob, Nagrub Burguk Broken Tower Redoubt, Bruca's Leap Redoubt, Deepwood Redoubt, Dragontooth Crater, Druadach Redoubt, Dustman's Cairn (see bugs), Hag Rock Redoubt, Harmugstahl, Rebel's Cairn, Red Eagle Redoubt
Mor Khazgur Bagrak Larak
Eastmarch Narzulbur Yatul Mauhulakh Ansilvund, Cragslane Cavern, Cragwallow Slope, Cronvangr Hall, Darkshade[verification needed — only with Unofficial Patch?], Gallows Rock, Lost Knife Hideout, Morvunskar, Stony Creek Cave, Uttering Hills Cave

NotesEdit

  • This quest's main purpose is to provide the Blood-Kin trait to players who don't already have it. As such, the quest generally can't be obtained by Orc players, or by players who have already become Blood-Kin through other quests.
  • If this quest is active, other quests with grateful Orcs will not name you Blood-Kin as part of the reward.
  • This quest cannot be unlocked in Largashbur due to that stronghold's unique quest, The Cursed Tribe, taking priority. Completing the Cursed Tribe quest will also make the player Blood-Kin, although this is not explicitly mentioned at any point during the quest itself.
  • After completion of this quest, the Forgemaster's Fingers will not remain with the chief you gave them to, but instead will be placed into the inventory of the orc who first gave you the quest, from whom you can pickpocket them back.

BugsEdit

  • The quest may fail to activate after agreeing to do the favor.
    •   Adding the gloves to your inventory via the console, then offering to do the quest again, may properly trigger the quest log entry. You can then remove the gloves via console and continue the quest as normal.
    • After you go to one stronghold and try to accept the quest, go to another stronghold and try to accept the quest again.
    • Enter the stronghold you're at and speak to the Orc that tried to give you the quest again. The option to ask how to enter should still be there.
    • Saving the game, restarting Skyrim, then repeating the dialogue may also fix the quest trigger.
    • Fast-traveling after speaking to the quest-giver may also cause the quest to trigger.
  • Sometimes an Orc guard will not give out the quest when speaking to them. ?

Quest StagesEdit

The Forgemaster's Fingers (FavorOrcsIntro)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10
Objective 10: Find the Forgemaster's Fingers
20
Objective 20: Bring the Forgemaster's Fingers to <Alias.ShortName=Chief>
  • The following empty quest stages were omitted from the table: 15, 100, 200.
Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage FavorOrcsIntro stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest FavorOrcsIntro.
