Bugged Display Mounts?
I'm playing on xbox, and I can't seem to put anything in any of the weapon racks or weapon mounts... I haven't bought other houses to check them so I don't know if this is a bug for breezehome, a bug for houses, or a messup in my game. Stouf761 18:06, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- Check out the notes for the house in Solitude. I've experienced the same issue. (Weapon racks in Whiterun not interactable) — Unsigned comment by 99.236.27.145 (talk) at 03:35 on 25 November 2011

- Only issue I've found with this house (also on PS3 vanilla and 1.3 patch) is that orcish weapons won't display properly on the plaques. The one above the door and in the bedroom put the the handle/haft is in the wall, with the business end protruding at a ninety degree angle. On the plaque at the top of the stairs the weapon sets on the bottom of the plaque, blade out. Anchient Nord battle ax also has this issue. Artemis Enterei 00:31, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- I've had this problem as well on PC. The display mount above the front door only worked once and while I was able to take a weapon off it, it is no longer selectable so remains empty. The side rack for two weapons is bugged as well but in a very strange way. If I have two weapons on the rack and then take the right side weapon off first, then I can no longer access that slot and put a new weapon in it. But if I remove the left weapon as well and then put a weapon on the right side first and then the left, it works again.--PIngp0NG 13:16, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- I put Volendrung on the plaque at the top of the stairs and returned to find it displaced leftward so that the head of the hammer was still barely on the plaque and the handle was sticking into the roof. That axe you get from the Companions... forget its name... displays fine, though. --174.6.51.17 21:44, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- I've had that same problem with the two-handed Axe of Whiterun. Put it at the front door, slowly seems to slide off. Put it in the Living Room next to my Dawnbreaker, slowly sinks into the floor. Not sure why, though, but i put a note on it under the Bugs section. Vyc Ðarkshådøw 04:47, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

(←) On PS3 too (patch 1.4 installed), the red weapon plaque over the front door seems to be okay to get rid of heavy quest items such as the Red Eagle sword for instance. Item may slide or be displayed awkwardly but it still remains retrievable if necessary after waiting for over 20 in-game days so far. [(Clearskies, 16:10, 20 March 2012)]
Be warned: There Be Glitches
This house is insanely bugged. It has a terrible reputation for disappearing items, specially books. Don't store items you're not willing to lose in this house. — Unsigned comment by 187.67.227.156 (talk) at 18:11 on 24 November 2011

- I've seen the problem with bookshelves in this house as well (PS3). Placing books on an empty shelf works, however it's not guaranteed you can retrieve them. If you can retrieve them, you get copies of the books in your inventory and the original books stay in the bookshelf. You may or may not be able to read the books on the bookshelves.Oblivoid 19:42, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

- I guess it may be related to the order you upgrade the house.
- I have two saves, the last one, I upgraded the house completely in one blow. The shelves and the racks are all working.
- The other save, I did it by first having the cheapest 3 or 4 first, entered the house and did some storing, and went on some adventure, back and got the last 2. The only working stuff was the one above the bed.
- Somebody may want to test this.--223.18.166.21 10:32, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

- Tested. If you upgrade all in one blow, the weapon plagues, racks are all usable but still not the bookshelves. But if you have stored books in a save before the patch, the bookshelves will be fixed. It bugs only if you are using the shelves for the first time after the patch. --223.18.166.23 10:58, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

- My brother's having a lot of trouble with his game. Mainly the bookshelves - the one on the first floor near the fire, and the one in the alchemy room. Neither are accessible, directly to the items nor via the bookshelves menu (which won't open). They have books stored on them, some of which he was able to remove at one point - they left behind (inaccessible) duplicates on the shelves despite also appearing in his inventory. The rest are just stuck there. I'm not sure of the exact timeline, just wanted to add to the "dis house be bugged yo". I personally haven't had any problems in mine, but I do know that I upgraded all at once, and he did it piecemeal over time (I'm worried about my bookcases tho...). He's also having problems with his quest markers - nothing in Miscellaneous is showing up on the map, but who knows if that's related. 12th 10:07, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

(←) another possible glitch that has happen with me is, when putting books on the shelve, if you click on a note to put on shelve is freezes it also, and you can't add anymore of remove them, it happen in the lab, had to go back and reload, then it was fine and working, but the one in the living room, i did the same thing, was clicking to fast, clicked a note, froze up again, this time i let it be, contiuned with a quest and came back, still didnt let me activate it, was able to take books off, put can not use the bottom shelve that i orginal put the note on, (PS3 Player) — Unsigned comment by 108.37.4.218 (talk) at 20:23 on 25 December 2011

- The Xbox version is still buggy, at least with regard to the bookshelves. I was trying to remove the books from the bookcase near the firepit and when I used the activate bookshelf command on the top shelf, all the books disappeared and were not in my inventory. After reloading I was able to remove the books individually and recovered all the books that way. I had no trouble with the chests or weapon racks, and the bottom shelf of the bookcase worked correctly, it was only the top shelf that glitched for me. Clarification
Was I misunderstanding the text when I read that the shield display is operatable? Like as in, you can remove the iron shield / greatswords and replace them with your own, or are they static items seemingly placed there for display?
I was under the impression it was a shield - storing device. Am I glitched, or wrong? (The Lost 21:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Getting the house for free
"Also, if you complete Battle for Whiterun, you will get this home (with no upgrades, but they can still be bought) for free after you speak with Jarl Balgruuf"
All Balgruuf will say is, "Do you wish to be a resident here in Whiterun? Talk to Avenicci." It does not mean he gives you the house. I didn't buy the house until this point to test it out. I still needed to pay Avenicci for the house. --223.18.166.23 10:58, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, you don't get the house for free, the door is just left open by Lydia. After you talk to the Jarl the battle begins and Lydia runs immediately to Breezehome. At that time the door is closed but after the fight she moves back to Dragonsreach because the house is not yours yet, that's why the door is open. --Quozar 18:09, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

A War Gotcha
I'm not sure if this qualifies as a bug, but I thought it bore mentioning as a cautionary tale and I'll leave it to someone else to decide where if anywhere it goes.
I own Breezehome. After the Battle for Whiterun, you know how the city is a smoking wreck? Well, I left to do some other chores, came back, and the city was restored to its original attractive state. This included the door to Breezehome being locked, and me without the key. Fortunately I could cheat myself a key, but other platforms won't be so lucky. (The stuff inside the house was still there.) Fail to be accessible along with not appearing Lydia
After the quest "Dragon Rising", Jarl Balgruuf did not initiate any speech regarding a housecarl nor the breezehome after telling me to pay the graybeards a vist. It's my fifth play-through, non-patched, rushed through every dialogue, what triggered the bug is still unknown. — Unsigned comment by 75.54.225.232 (talk) at 00:39 on February 29, 2012
A different glitch --
I don't know quite how I managed it. I played through the Dragon Rising quest and I have Lydia as a housecarl. I didn't have the cash to buy Breezehome right then, but talking to Proventus gave me the option.
I went around a bit in search of sufficient funds. When I returned to Dragonsreach with the intent of buying the house, Proventus doesn't give me the prompt anymore.
I read that if you have a companion, then you might not have the option. I ditched my companion, but I still don't have the option.
I had a bounty in Solitude, but I paid that off and I don't think I have any other bounties on me at the moment.
Any ideas? This is on a PS3 with the latest patch and super early in the game -- haven't really accomplished any of the real quests at this point or chosen sides in the civil war.
Cerise 02:47, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Proventus must be inside Dragonreach, at either the throne of the Jarl or at the table, to get these options. Otherwise, he will not give you the option. Vyc Ðarkshådøw 21:00, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Breeze Home: Alchemy Lab Glitch
Someone posted about this before i could get to it,
Apperantly with the Dawnguard DLC installed you cannot buy the alchemy lab for Breezehome, I checked and it is true that you can purchase that upgrade with dawnguard uninstalled. Anyone know of another way around it? Warrof 16:52, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- copy paste from my forum post.
- Hey Guys, found a fix for this glitch. Don’t do this if you’ve started the dawnguard dlc, as you might lose your items/spells, you’ve collected from it. First of your going to save your game in a none dlc area, whiterun is best for convinces sake, next your going to save your game and exit to the dashboard. move your profile and save file to your internal hard drive or cloud memory, anywhere but the hard drive(the same place dawnguards dlc is located). turn off your 360 and remove the hard drive, turn it back on and start skyrim, the dlc should be removed, after this you can buy the laboratory without any problems. to retain the dlc, simply save, plug in your hard drive, and move your saves to your original location. the laboratory should be there still. Hope this helps! Sorry about any grammar mistakes, wrote this in a rush. — Unsigned comment by 24.22.40.138 (talk) at 16:49 on 7 July 2012
- If nothing else, Farengar has an Alchemist Table you can use for free, and is always available. (←) A note for people still experiencing bugs after installing the various Unofficial Skyrim Patches. Today I experienced by first Breezehome furnishing dialog bug with Hearthfire and Dawnguard installed. (I'm on my 6th character so I've owned a number of breezehomes before). The bug was that neither the alchemy lab or the bedroom could be bought. The dialog would be grayed, but money would not be taken and the furnishings would not appear. The Childs bedroom option would not appear in dialog either. If you're experiencing this problem, The culprit was the load order. In between my Breezehome purchases, something had messed up the load order. Make sure the Hearthfire Unofficial patch loads after the Dawnguard Unofficial Patch. I imagine that since both patches fix Proventus Avenicci's dialog in a different way by overwriting what's originally there, that only the latest in the load order remains as previous fixes are overwritten. 50.43.36.195 21:47, 3 April 2013 (GMT)
- Confirmed. Made an account to thank you for this, I just rearranged the load order and I could buy the alchemy lab as well as bedroom furnishings. Thank you very much.— Unsigned comment by Metalsynkk (talk • contribs) on 27 August, 2013
Wierd Dialogue Glitch
So, I became the Thane of Whiterun early in the gamer, purchased the house, got all the upgrades, all while Whiterun was controled by Balgruuf the Greater. Then, I took it for the Stormcloaks. I came back, and spoke to Vignar Grey-Beard. He offered for me to buy a house again, and to become the Thane, again. Since I already owned Breezehome and already did 5 radiant quests in Whiterun, I quickly became Thane under Vignar (He gave me a second Blade of Whiterun, though). Anyone know why this happens? Shouldn't he already acknowledge you as Thane, and not offer to sell you a house you already own? Schiffy (talk) 01:41, 28 September 2012 (GMT)
- Whenever the jarl of a hold where you are thane is replaced, you lose your thane status there but do not lose any property you may own in the hold. This can happen either through the civil war or Season Unending. The requirement, incidentally, is not to do 5 radiant quests in Whiterun, it's just to have 5 friends in Whiterun hold, which nearly always happens before you complete Battle for Whiterun, although I've tested and it's possible to not get the full five; see Skyrim:Thane of Whiterun for details.
- You're right to criticize him for giving you permission to rebuy Breezehome. This happens with all the jarls though, their dialogue doesn't check to see if you already own the property in question. It's also sort of hilarious to hear jarls installed by Season Unending thank you for your valor in battle and give you permission to buy property, when they owe their positions to diplomatic negotiations and may in fact be on the opposing side from you. --Morrolan (talk) 06:08, 1 January 2014 (GMT)

Pathfinding bug?
It seems that my children are unable to go to their room. I don't understand how it is possible considering that bug is still present on a new game after a fresh install without any mod. When asked to go to bed they just stay in place. When bumped toward the room they:
1. teleport near the bed;
2. become unmovable;
2. teleport back near the closet outside their room.
I may very well be the only one affected with that bug but in case anyone knows a solution (or have any idea of why) I'd lire to hear it. Huillam (talk) 02:19, 7 February 2013 (GMT)
Does Temba go into debt if she stays here?
Just thinking about this, it says on her page that she hates living in Breezehome if married. I thought she would love Whiterun. Every day Ria boasts that she killed a bear, always yesterday. She must kill one every day. I thought her and Temba would be the best of friends(might be a combo in a future game with a Hearthfire house, marry Temba and make Ria my steward.) Or did Temba foolishly offer to pay Ria for killing bears and Ria took her up on the offer causing her to go into debt. — Unsigned comment by Festuskreux (talk • contribs) at 19:17 on 16 February 2013
Breezehome without Lydia
It's not a glitch, and the bed still shows as owned - but it IS possible to end up owning Breezehome and not have Lydia as your housecarl (and not because she's dead). Presuming you have HF installed, when you complete Dragon Rising, DON'T purchase Breezehome immediately. I had already built Lakeview Manor, and did not have a steward - so Lydia followed me to Lakefront Manor and volunteered to be my steward there. Much later on, I finally decided to buy Breezehome. Lydia returns to Lakefront Manor when I dismiss her from my service, not Breezehome. Agmen (talk) 05:41, 25 February 2013 (GMT)
- Your steward returns to the home where they are steward when you dismiss them as a follower, not where they are housecarl. — ABCface◥ 05:58, 25 February 2013 (GMT)

- So did you end up with 2 housecarls at Breezehome & still have the option for a (new) steward? I haven't bought either yet, so have no way to check it out for now...sort of strange her bed was kept as "owned" even though she's been relocated (may be a default coding/script "anchor"), and especially that she wouldn't return upon dismissal if it is "held" as her bed...I assume this hasn't corrected itself over time/game progression, like a cell/character reset etc? Sounds interestingly weird~ — Unsigned comment by 216.232.216.138 (talk) at 16:32 on 19 March 2013

Beware the Display Cases
Although I gather this topic is specifically Breezehome, since I see a lot of mention about glitchy storage options/items missing I thought I'd add this. I bought Windstad Manor & fully decked it out/all upgrades, then began placing items as I see fit (had a few weapons fall out of the racks in Entry Hall or w/e, but they stayed/weren't lost, so no biggie), I had placed minor loot items (generic gold/silver amulets/rings w various gems inset, lesser quality blades like Borvir's Dagger etc)into display cases. I watched to see how it would go (since there is no "menu option" I was sketchy on it), and after 2-3 months they remained (although it has the habit of tossing circlets out on the floor for some reason). Figuring all was cool I proudly displayed Zephyr in a large case while I waited to advance to where I could use the special arrows (this IS the bow with sunlight/blackout, right? If so it works into a trophy also) & guess what? My bloody unique, irreplaceable bow is GONE...yet EVERYTHING else stayed in it's case-being on PS3, I'm hooped/it's permanent. So ONLY store unimportant items in them (which sucks as there are few places you can ACTUALLY display bows). Bethesda has stunning conceptual/design aspects, but their programming/code is atrocious (it's like my game has the equivalent of digital herpes-mega annoying rashes popping up sporadically...this SUCKS!). I won't be buying future titles after a consistant run of buggy games that are never properly tended to (it's only been out since 2011 & is STILL wonky)...Fallout, anybody? Pathetic...you don't see this from Blizzard or Capcom, to name a few. — Unsigned comment by 216.232.216.138 (talk) at 23:23 on 18 March 2013
- Auriel's Bow has the sun/dark arrows; Zephyr isn't particularly special.
- Yes, weapons and other objects have a tendency to disappear due to bugs. Bugs are common in TES games. If you would like to discuss game quality, please check out the forums (but not for ranting, please). Vely►t►e 23:35, 18 March 2013 (GMT)

- Though there was some rant I think it was merited-the bulk was info on the issue itself detailing the display cases being unreliable (and therefore somewhat pointless), stage of upgrade (meaning I didn't place it in mid-stage, which has been noticed to "wipe" items), the items themselves & the fact that only the GOOD item went missing...I could at least see it as a cell reset if EVERYTHING was missing. And it IS slipshod no matter how you cut it~ — Unsigned comment by 216.232.216.138 (talk) at 12:43 on 19 March 2013
- (*edit: for the sake of being thorough, the case Zephyr went missing from was the one on the right of the main exit door if you're leaving...the bedroom cases, the one by N wing door & the one just to the side of the archway to go to smelter in cellar-opposite the mead barrels-all retained their items, though I still find the cases throwing items like circlets on the floor odd the vanishing is quite annoying/makes me not want to risk using cases anymore)
- Small relief about it being Auriel's Bow I want, thanks for info! Fire rate on Zephyr was nice tho~ — Unsigned comment by 216.232.216.138 (talk) at 12:50 on 19 March 2013

Can someone update Breezehome Children's room with this information?
This upgrade comes with 2 Beds (marked Owned), 2 Chests, and a door.
Another thing that should be added is that the breezehome living room upgrade's bookshelf holds 18 books on each shelf. The living room upgrade comes with 2 sacks which should be mentioned as they are storage devices. The weapon plaque that comes with this upgrade holds one weapon and the weapon rack holds two weapons.
Also, the kitchen upgrade also comes with 2 sacks which I think should be mentioned.
Ok, the article should mention that before any upgrades the house comes with a bed, a chest, and a table. Interestingly, the dining room upgrade removes the table and puts a bench in its place.
The alchemy laboratory's bookshelf holds 11 books on each shelf. — Unsigned comment by 69.169.172.128 (talk) at 17:22 on 30 April 2013
Citizens Entering Home Unwelcomed.
I've encountered this 3 times now, and I'm not sure if it's technically a bug or not. When I initiate the action to open the door and there's a person standing between myself and my follower (said person is usually walking down the street), once Breezehome interior loads that person is in my home as well. I've had this happen with a guard, Braith, and Amren, and on all 3 occasions they said a line of dialogue and then wandered the bottom floor of the house for about 20 in-game minutes before seeing themselves out.
While it doesn't seem to have any adverse effects on gameplay, I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. I'm playing on the Xbox 360 with Hearthfire installed, in case this is a console-specific thing. Bruchette (talk) 07:22, 9 June 2013 (GMT)
- This happens all the time everywhere in cities. For me they usually leave straight away though. Its something do to with their proximity to you and having to finish their line of dialogue. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 10:23, 9 June 2013 (GMT)

- This seems to happen when an NPC is speaking to your character. Apparently, if an NPC is speaking to you, even if you didn't initiate the dialogue, the game considers them bound to you somehow, and they will follow you inside any building you enter in order to finish their conversation. As long as you don't click on them to open a dialogue menu and extend the conversation, they will leave as soon as they are done making their random comment. This happens to me a lot in Whiterun with that obnoxious little girl (I think her name is Braitha) who often seems to feel the need to follow me into Breezehome to tell me that she isn't afraid of me, as well as with the guards. Idolaf Battle-Born also often follows me into Breezehome to tell me how much my friendship means to him. Bottom line is, it only seems to happen when the NPC is making an unprompted comment, not with player initiated conversations. KeturahIshtari (talk) 08:54, 15 September 2013 (GMT)
