Furniture bugEdit
I've noticed a furniture bug in the master bedroom (PS3 version).
A lowboy wardrobe appeared, intersecting with the shelf that holds the potions and clothes iron. IT RESPAWNS, so if this bug happens to you, DO NOT STORE things in this weird wardrobe.
Also, a crappy, low quality bed has intersected my fine bed, and the table and chairs have intersected with my higher level table and chairs. All of this is in the Master bedroom.
I did nothing to cause this (I think), it just appeared one day. Does anyone know any way to try to make the lowboy, crap bed, and crap tables and chairs go away? I try to talk to Jorleif, but all he tells me is that I've already purchased all available upgrades. — Unsigned comment by 98.65.232.52 (talk) at 18:59 on 21 April 2012
- It sounds like the furniture from the Windhelm Butcher quests has come back. If you're on a console version, I'm not sure what you can do about it, unless you have a precious save to go back to. =/ 64.139.230.230 04:36, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

- I ran into this bug on the PS3 version myself, and found a way to replicate it. It seems that when you completely finish the Blood on the Ice quest (killed the murderer and talked to Jorleif) the game will revert the upstairs furniture to a non-messy state. The only problem is it does not check to see if you already bought the house and upgraded the furniture, so it will spawn the crappy furniture and wardrobe over your bedroom furniture. To avoid this bug you should never upgrade your master bedroom until you complete the quest. If you already did upgrade it though, I think your only option is to not talk to Jorleif to finish it. Could anyone test if this bug is unique to the PS3 version? --69.119.220.255 02:01, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

- This happened to me on both PS3 and PC. On the PC I fixed it by "markfordelete" the old furniture (and then re-enter the cell). 90.230.113.46 20:48, 24 January 2013 (GMT)

(←) SOLUTION: If you're playing on PC there is way to fix it by using console command "markfordelete"... (solution by shenron276)
- 1) Open your console
- 2) Select object (ex. wardrobe)***
- 3) Type "markfordelete" without quote marks
- 4) Press ENTER (HINT: this step is very easy)
- 5) Close your console
- 6) Re-enter house
- 7) Problem solved :D
-
- Two low-quality chairs appeared and intersected other two high-quality chairs (CAN BE REMOVED)
- Low-quality table appeared and intersected high-quality chair (CAN BE REMOVED)
- Low-quality bed appeared and intersected high-quality bed (CAN BE REMOVED)
- Wardrobe appeared and partially intersected shelf furniture (CAN BE REMOVED)
NOTE: You have to re-enter house otherwise it won't disappear because "markfordelete" command removes selected objects by re-loading cell (in this particular case, re-entering house) unlike "disable" command which removes selected objects immediately... It's a bug that appears on PC, XBOX and PS3 if you purchase house and buy upgrade for bedroom before finishing quest "Blood on the Ice"... Luckily, people playing on PC can use console commands to resolve pretty much every problem... — Unsigned comment by 93.138.113.85 (talk) at 19:41 on 21 April 2013
Alternate Dagger display case fix.Edit
So if you're like me and none of the above suggestions helped you in retrieving your weapon from the Master Bedroom display case in Hjerim, here is what you can do. Go find a companion to follow you about and take them back to your home. Once inside the master bedroom ask them to open and close the display case for you and in the median the option to grab your weapon should appear. However, I could only get this to work on the upper shelf display case. — Unsigned comment by 174.52.180.45 (talk) at 02:19 on 4 May 2012
- This solution gave me the option to retrieve my dagger. yet when I took it and looked in my inventory it was not there.. — Unsigned comment by 24.185.106.242 (talk) at 16:31 on 20 August 2012
-
- The actvators of these dagger cases were mistakenly linked to an enable parent, which makes the scripts on them stop working (more precisely, the script is unable to disable the activator once an item has been placed, and small items such as daggers which are located entirely within the activator's volume cannot be grabbed again). This bug has been fixed in USKP 1.3.3.

- I got the answer, however this is very hard to perform. So you do the exact same thing, however once you see the prompt for taking the dagger, quickly exit out of the companion GUI and take the dagger. As I said it is very hard so it might take a few attempts before you get it. — Unsigned comment by AmericanSmeagle (talk • contribs) at 01:24 on 14 March 2014
Item Storage BugEdit
This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered. |
Started moving all my items to Hjerim right after buying it, As soon as I started doing so, I noticed all my items are now stolen. Before I walked into the house, I sold all my stolen items at the thieves guild.... Anyone else having this problem? Belos 16:48, 4 May 2012 (UTC)Belos, May 5/12
- When moving your items, did you have a follower retrieve them for you from a chest? That may have put the stolen flags there. — Unsigned comment by 68.238.152.79 (talk) at 23:28 on 22 June 2012
It sounds like the house is not registering as yours. Did you purchase the "Clean Up" first and then all the upgrades all at once?
I have an occasional problem with storing things in tavern chests or areas considered "owned." Put in, items are fine, but sometimes are marked "stolen" if you try to take them out. It's best to never place items in containers that are marked stolen (all items removed are flagged stolen) or even from buildings that are owned and have some items flagged as stolen. Some items are not marked stolen in owned spaces but will count as if they are. I've had adamant mercenaries come to "teach me a lesson" over one Markarth Understone Keep potato.
Hjerim shouldn't have an owner problem after you buy it especially after all traces of the Butcher are removed (or any possible previous owner designation). Hmmm... Reload and try purchasing everything again and all at once? (I have to buy all upgrades at once anyway if I want the weapon racks to function). The housing space shouldn't ever flag items as stolen if it's properly recognizing you as the owner.
Theory #2
Here's an idea. Maybe placing stolen items in some containers is flagging other items in the same container or just flagging similar items? I once had a character who couldn't ever have a dwarven or orchish shield that wasn't flagged as stolen if I looted it. It wasn't stolen until it entered my inventory. I had placed one orchish shield in the Winking Skeever rental room chest and it flagged when I tried to take it out. I got rid of it to try and "purge" the stolen flag. But then every orchish and eventually dwarven shield I picked up perfectly legally kept flagging as stolen. So I stopped looting orchish and dwarven shields. I even had the shields flag taking them off my companion. (They were fine giving them to my companion but "looted" to me as stolen. No way to get rid of this false flag!)
Maybe it's not the house but a problem with other storage or items you've stolen (or had falsely flagged) that are flagging on your character's inventory when you loot? It looks like a white item but flags stolen when you pick it up? Is this maybe the case? (I don't know how to fix this. Get Speech perk to be able to fence to anyone and accept that everyone thinks you have greedy fingers?) Or you can reroll. I didn't have the problem on other characters. (Sorry, not a fix!) 71.10.177.123 03:21, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
Minor Bookshelf EditingEdit
I edited:
1. '...and the most bookshelf space.' to '...and a large amount of bookshelf space.' Vlindrel Hall has 162 slots for books. Hjeirm only holds 132. 2. Also, I removed the note '*Only 5 out of the 12 "bookshelves" function as such.' as Bookshelves and Shelf Stands are detailed in the Cost and Upgrades table. MetalJoe 04:23, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

How to get Hjerim using console if the quest won't triggerEdit
The quest Blood in the Ice is glitched and bugged - if you can't trigger it or even solve it in order to buy your house, it is still possible to get Hjerim without any problems. First of all, initiate the fix by typing completequest ms11 and completequest ms11b. Once you do that, the quest Blood in the Ice will be solved, but the steward won't let you buy the house, so type in: setstage a7b33 10 (make sure you got 12000 gold - otherwise don't do it). Then, the house is now bought. But of course, you will want to have the mess cleaned. Go see the steward. There he would let you to purchase your furnishings, but DON'T buy any before looking after the option to clean up the murderer's mess. After doing this, DON'T buy any furnishing - check if your house is cleaned, take a look on the secret wardrobe if the ritual desk and bones are still there (they shouldn't - if they do, reload an earlier save and try again). While in the house, you will notice that the floor still has some fragments and cobwebs upstairs. Leave the house then try typing df495.disable in the console and checking inside the house if the fragments and cobwebs are still there, but they now should be gone. Now the mess itself is gone, you just need to buy your furnishings. Go to the steward and buy your furnishings, then come to your house again to see if everything is in order - you should notice (if you didn't notice before, check by the bed upstairs) some annoying Investigation Target. In order to remove them, leave your house and type in your console: d55f2.disable; d5625.disable; d5662.disable; d57f6.disable; d57ef.disable; d57f7.disable; d572c.disable and d57c7.disable Go back to your house and voilá! Your house is rid of annowing cobwebs, Investigation Targets, fragments, blood and it is totally possible to live in it with no problems. NOTE: Some say this fix is temporary, but I've been playing for one whole week right now and got no problems with Hjerim again. This small fix was brought to you by Diogovsky, but the informations were taken from: A quote by Toutatis in http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/471508-fix-for-hjerim-bloody-mess-bug/ and a post by ballstothewall in http://www.cheathappens.com/show_board2.asp?headID=109811&titleID=18106&onPage=2 Feel free to reply in this section, reporting if it worked for you or not. — Unsigned comment by 187.23.117.142 (talk) at 16:29 on 24 June 2012
- Going in to purchase the home renovations from the steward can be a bit odd. I had completed the Civil War quest line for the Empire and killed Ulfric, and when I entered the hall, Ulfric was still slumped dead on the throne (in his underwear) and an assortment of supplanted Stormcloak jarls and followers were seated at the table in front of him. The former Jarl of Dawnstar had some inadvertently very appropriate dialog when I talked to him: "Unless you're here to resolve this nightmare situation, I don't want to talk to you." Several other of the figures complained they were "very tired," and one expressed the wish I be eaten by wild beasts one day. Unintentional humor no doubt, but rather amusing. 174.6.51.17 20:45, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

- Partial success. I followed the procedure above, and the investigation targets and some of the crap and cobwebs disappear, but when you buy the rest of the furnishings there are still chairs and the old bed tangled up with the new bed, a chair mixed up with one of the mannequins, a number of cobwebs, crap scattered over the kitchen floor, and so on. I am using the same solution to deal with this as was suggested by one commentator to resolve the problem you get when you replace the dead Guildergleam with a sapling and the old dead tree won't disappear: go into the console, click on the offending object, type in "markfordelete", close console, save, and reload. This appears to be working to get rid of the offending chairs and so on. (Do it by stages and save in case you accidentally delete the floor or something.) Note that some of the cobwebs seem to be single-sided and can only be selected from one side. Note also that unless you get very close to things, the first things you delete will almost certainly be the fog volumes that fill the inside of the house (not that that is a bad thing, but it seems to make the lighting somewhat erratic).
-
- I'll report if the fix is lasting (but with the Guildergleam it seems to be, so I don't see why it wouldn't be here). 174.6.51.17 21:08, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Where is the Space???Edit
In looking over the house I realized that there is alot of space missing. The space in question is behind the kitchen toward the back of the house, it juts out by the stairs, the wall with the 2 round weavings hung up on it, and behind the secret room. That is alot of space and could have been used for real rooms for alchemy and enchanting as well as an upgrade weapons rooms. The secret room could have been a libary or left as a secret room for our teasure and such. So, where is this space and why was it left out of the house? Please Beth give us our whole house we paid for it! (75.95.140.156 13:51, 5 July 2012 (UTC))

Missing Chest BugEdit
In order to ensure this does not happen what you need to do is start Blood on the ice as early as possible and before you do any stormcloak or imperial missions. To get the quest to activate you need to fast travel between windhelm and whiterun 3 or 4 times when you arrive back at windhelm check graveyard and the quest should activate. Next go and do all the things the quest tells you to do up until when you need to get access to hjerim. I did it this way first i spoke to Tova Shatter Sheild and she gave me the key next i enter hjerim then the quest updates telling you to find clues when this happens investigate everything possible in the house when your done you must go to Calixtos Curiosities first and talk to calixto he will offer to buy the necromancer jewellery from you so sell it to him (N.B sometimes its not possible to talk to calixto at his shop so if this happens find him at candlehearth hall make sure to speak to him first). Once your done with calixto go speak to viola giordano who will tell you that the steward needs to be informed. Now heres how to avoid missing chest glitch go to blue palace and tell jorleif that wuunferth is the murderer when you do this the quest states that its complete but it isnt. Leave windhelm for three days and you will find that when you go back to windhelm there has been another murder so go up to the guard at he side of candlehearth hall and when you speak to him another blood on the ice quest will start. You will be told you have to speak to wuunferth so go to the blue palace dungeons and speak with him he will tell you that he has been checking the killers pattern and says for you to go patrol the market. Go to market at between 7pm and 7am to see calixto attempting to murder his next victim if you can kill him before he kills her this is good if not he will run to his hideout in hjerim so just kill him there. The quest updates telling you to tell jorleif the killers dead do this and the quest completes.Next you start the windhelm jarls military quests until he tells you that you can buy a house in windhelm at this stage DO NOT BUY IT. Leave the jarls dialogue menu and leave the palace advance the time by 2 or 3 hours then go back into the palace and speak to the jarl again and he will have a new piece of dialogue. Basically saying what can i do to help my jarl. he will respond by saying he wants to make me thane but to do this i must help 5 people in eastmarch and purchase house. STILL DO NOT BUY HOUSE at this point go help the 5 people first then when your done go back to blue palace and buy the house but DO NOT FURNISH THE HOUSE AT THIS POINT just go speak to the jarl and he will make you thane and gives you a housecarl.Only when this is all done go back to jorleif and go into the decoration menu and select CLEAN UP THAT MURDERERS MESS first and then all other decorations when all this is done you are now free to visit hjerim. You should now find the missing chest is now present at bottom of bed and all armoury items are working . I think because there is so many bugs in the first blood on the ice quest it causes parts of the house to bug if you confront wuunferth so its best to get wuunferth arrested and complete the first quest leave and trigger the second blood on the ice which has as far as im aware has no bugs 3 days later and complete it therefore meaning you have completed the non bugging quest which allows the missing chest to appear after you have become thane and have a housecarl where it is supposed to. I did this on XBOX360 4 or 5 times and it worked everytime. — Unsigned comment by 90.216.244.99 (talk) at 05:19 on 7 August 2012
- That's a long explanation. Turns out the only important part is telling Jorleif, and having Wuunferth arrested. That quest stage is what Enables (makes visible) the chest. For PC, that will soon be fixed for the alternative quest ending by USkP.

House Still A MessEdit
Apologies if this is old territory, but I've got an odd bug. I've bought all the upgrades, and the murderer's mess has been cleaned up. However, the house is still in a sort of run-down state; just with my upgrades in it. So it's still full of cobwebs, there are still bits of broken something all over the floors downstairs, and there's a pile of broken wood or something sticking out of the middle of the master bedroom's bed.
It looks like, in bringing the house up to scratch, it hasn't removed the old furniture and some of the trimmings etc that were in there. Any thoughts/ideas on how to fix? I really like the house; but it still looks a bit like a tip... — Unsigned comment by 80.229.165.55 (talk) at 19:37 on 23 September 2012

Master Bedroom Bed BugEdit
In the Master Bedroom (I have purchased all the upgrades, including clean up the mess) the Investigate Bed and Chairs is still there, even though I already investigated it in the quest before upgrading the house, and the bed & end tables are pushed forward. Dagger Cases in the Master BedroomEdit
Is there ANY work-around for the broken dagger racks in the bedroom for PS3? I don't want to have to have lost Mehrunes' Razor due to some stupid buggy display case.
I've tried shouting at it, casting fire spells at it (including fireball and incinerate) but it's still stuck. It accidentally put the Blade of Woe in the same display case yet I retrieved it just fine. It's been a while since I actually put it there, and it was a while before I realised I couldn't get it out. 109.153.131.239 11:33, 29 July 2013 (GMT)
- Note: to fix this glitch with the bedrooms dagger cases, there will be a very very tiny point in the display while its open where you can retrieve you dagger. Skull of Corruption incompatible with weapon rackEdit
When I place the Skull of Corruption on the top weapon rack just to the right of the bedroom door, exit the house, save and restart the game and return to the house, the staff is laying on the floor. Luckily the staff is not lost. I'm not sure if this is limited to Xbox, this particular staff or this particular weapon rack. — Unsigned comment by 198.244.99.89 (talk) at 06:35 on 21 July 2014 (GMT)
- This is a known issue with all versions of Skyrim. Weapon racks tend to have trouble holding Daedric artifact weapons, which tend to fall off as soon as another cell is loaded. Some of the weapons stay on a bit better with the unofficial patches, but others don't. There hasn't been a comprehensive fix yet for PC players, and if you're playing on Xbox you're kind of stuck with it. Zul se onikaanLaan tinvaak 12:52, 21 July 2014 (GMT)
Bug with false wardrobe in children's roomEdit
I encountered this bug in SSE. The Blood On the Ice quest was terribly bugged, and I ended up completing it in the console. I was able to decorate my house, but I couldn't interact with the wardrobe. I don't know any other way to fix this, but I was able to select the wardrobe and false door in the console and use Dylbill's Positioner SSE to delete and duplicate, which caused both to start functioning as expected. I was then able to use Jaxonz Positioner Converted to precisely position both pieces, and now it works perfectly! I don't know if this will persist when the house's interior resets, though.
