  2. Speak to Samay on the same floor.
  3. Go to the training dummies, and dodge Samay's lightning.
  4. Return to Samay for your reward.
  5. Return to Ethalvora.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

On completion of the On Daedric Design quest, Ethalvora will have new duties for you:

"Samay, the new apprentice mage, needs a partner -- or, more accurately, a moving target -- with whom to practice shock magic. He's in the training area right over there. It'll be a good opportunity for you to practice the school of Restoration while you're at it. Just don't get too hurt."

And will have little shame in asking even higher ranking Mages Guild characters to help with this, as part of assisting apprentices with their learning.

Samay is on the same floor as Ethalvora, standing in the range on the north side of the hall. Ask him about the practice destruction magic topic. He'll grant you potions of restore health in case of a hit, but will otherwise instruct you to stand near the practice dummies and try to avoid his shock balls. Once close enough to the dummies, a dialogue window will appear as Samay announces that he is about to start shooting. He will fire eight balls of lightning, and you need to dodge them without leaving the area. Use your restore health potions or come equipped with lightning or magic resistance items.

Once Samay is finished, he will call you over to collect a thank you present - a copy of the Destruction Skill Book, The Art of War Magic. Once collected, speak to Ethalvora to finish the quest.

150 Finishes quest  Ethalvora was furious that Samay was killed. I have been expelled from the Mages Guild.
160 Finishes quest  Ethalvora was furious that Samay was killed. I will not be offered more duties at the Andothren guildhall.
