"The great port city of Andothren has been made wealthy by geography, but sanctified by the deeds of its patron goddess: the Queen of Mercy, Mother Morrowind, Lady Almalexia. Indeed, the proud residents of this jewel upon the Inner Sea often attribute the city's commercial prosperity to the blessing of Almalexia and her great deeds here. So long as the Temple stands upon her isle, it is said, Andothren will never fall to ruin." - Guide to Andothren
Andothren, sometimes known as Stonefalls or Bal Foyen, is House Hlaalu's largest city on the Inner Sea of Morrowind. It is situated on the western side of the Thirr River delta, and unlike the grand Imperial city of Old Ebonheart to the east, Andothren is permitted to manage its own trade and affairs without the oversight of the Septim Empire.
The city is built on the site of a great victory over the invading Akaviri forces of Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal, where the goddess Almalexia induced a cataclysm that destroyed much of that army. Much of the city has consequentially been built over the site of a large crater, with waterfalls rushing down the high rim to the sea-filled bay at the center where the Temple stands upon a central island. Today the city is a true Hlaalu stronghold. Manors line the winding streets on the city's high western side, while the Hlaalu Council Manor rises above the small shops and houses that dot the east. To the north is the port where numerous ships have docked, while looming over it all is the Andas Estate on the southern cliffside where Andothren's influential Tholer Andas can be found.
Andothren itself is not without tensions. The Temple is low on funds and overstretched by its requirements to provide for the poor. A strong Camonna Tong presence intertwined with the Hlaalu nobility has helped corruption seep into unexpected corners, and the Camonna Tong themselves have only lately done considerable damage to the local Thieves Guild. Still, for the enterprising adventurer, there is plenty of work to be found.
Warden PlazaEdit
The great square centered upon the eastern part of the city is known as Warden Plaza, and it is here that the majority of non-Dunmer reside. Here are the Fighters and Mages guildhalls, along with the imposing edifice of the Hlaalu Council Manor, where matters important to the great house are deliberated upon.
Old TownEdit
Less frequented by outlanders, Old Town rings the western cliffs. The manors of Hlaalu notables can be found in this district (alongside the Hlaalu-only Golden Moons Club), as can poorer residences of the local Dunmer. The Morag Tong guildhall is well-established here, as are the insidious Camonna Tong of the local Cornerclub.
Manor DistrictEdit
The location of the Imperial Commission, the Manor District is home to beautiful mansions belonging chiefly to outlander residents, including the Imperial Magistrates for both Andothren and Balmora, and the East Empire Company's liason to the Hlaalu Council Company. A small force of the Imperial Legion is garrisoned beneath the Commission, and is commanded by the knight, Agronak gro-Dumag.
Temple IsleEdit
Temple Isle perhaps lies closest to the site of the original settlement here, Bal Foyen. Today it is the site of the city's temple, presided over by the long-serving temple master, Nalvs Andolin. The Shrine to Almalexia's Fury can also be found here, venerating the goddess's victory over the army of Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal.
The PortEdit
Stretching out north of Temple Isle are the docks enclosing both the east and west side of Andothren's harbor. Various vessels, most notably the Rivenwake and the Robed Warden are docked on the eastern piers at the time of your arrival, while the piers to the west play host to fishermen. The east side of the port also hosts two notable buildings: the Port Authority itself, and the Cat-catcher's Cornerclub, where followers of that trade and pursuers of sin-in-general go to shake off their cares and worries under a multitude of vices.
PeopleEdit
Tholer Andas is the Hlaalu Councillor resident in Andothren and oversees its affairs. The Imperial Magistrate, Janonia Melitus, resides within the Imperial Commission, Agronak gro-Dumag presides over the Commission's Garrison, and Balmora's own absentee Magistrate, Nolus Atrius has also taken up residence within the city. Dreynos Helvi in the Hlaalu Council Manor is another notable Hlaalu official, responsible for looking after a number of the Great House's interests in the region.
Notable figures beyond the politicians and the nobility include the head of the local temple, Nalvs Andolin, the Fighters Guild chapter head, Neras Hardil, and the Mages Guild chapter head, Ethalvora. The Morag Tong maintain a hall here, headed by Dareni Dulo. Tilara Danar is the captain of the town guard.

Getting There and AroundEdit
As a trading center, Andothren is easily accessible from a number of locations. Boats arrive from Old Ebonheart on the opposite bank of the Thirr River delta, from the canton city of Almas Thirr, the holy city of Vivec, and the small Imperial colony of Teyn. The silt strider runs from Almas Thirr, and the smaller Roth Roryn towns of Omaynis and Menaan. The guild guide at the Mages Guild of Old Ebonheart offers teleportation to the Andothren guild, as does the guild in far-flung Akamora.
The temple in the center of the city provides a destination for Almsivi Intervention spells, and the city is also accessible on foot via the roads that run east along the coast of the Inner Sea from the Imperial town of Teyn, or the long and winding path up from Almas Thirr along the west bank of the Thirr River. Those willing to swim or otherwise traverse the water will find the city a short walk southwest of Vivec, and west of Old Ebonheart.
