Quick WalkthroughEdit
- Speak to Ethalvora in Andothren's Guild of Mages.
- Speak to Janonia Melitus to negotiate Samay's release.
- Collect Samay from the Imperial Commission: Legion Garrison.
- Escort Samay back to the Mages Guild and either:
- Give Samay up to Sanvyr Ruthan and his band.
- Kill Sanvyr Ruthan and his band.
- Pay Sanvyr the 500 gold owed.
- Return to Ethalvora.
Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Ethalvora has a new problem. Samay, the apprentice, has been arrested. She needs you to get him out. She will direct you to the Imperial Commission in Andothren, where the Magistrate, Janonia Melitus, can be found. Janonia holds authority over Samay's release.
Freeing SamayEdit
The Imperial Commission is on the north-west side of Andothren. Enter, and locate Janonia in the courtroom immediately above the entrance hall. Talk to her about the topic free Samay. She will speak of his crimes, and you will have several ways in which to respond.
1. Samay is a good kid. Surely a kind-hearted magistrate like you can give him a second chance."
This will succeed if Janonia's disposition towards you is 95 or more.
2. "I will vouch for Samay personally."
This will succeed if your Reputation is or exceeds 30.
3. "The Mages Guild will vouch for Samay."
This will succeed if you are a Wizard in the Mages Guild, or of higher rank.
4. "He broke some silly Dunmer laws and offended a couple superstitious locals. So what?"
Will always fail.
5. "I'll cover the cost of his fine."
This will succeed only if you have 500 gold to cover the cost.
Returning SamayEdit
Once you've agreed Samay's release with Ilmana, you'll find him in the Imperial Commission's Legion Garrison, some floors beneath the courtroom. Samay will be annoyed at your intervention, and will explain that he purposely committed his crime to get away from the Camonna Tong, to whom he owes a substantial amount of coin. He'll request that you escort him back to the Mages Guild.
Three thugs of the Camonna Tong will be waiting for you immediately outside the Imperial Commission, headed by Sanvyr Ruthan. You can either give Samay up to them, or kill them in his defense.
Assuming Samay survives this assault, escort him back to the Mages Guild building, and he will reward you with a Scroll of Ekash's Locksplitter. You can then return to Ethalvora and complete the quest.
If Samay dies, Ethalvora will note it as a shame, but the quest will complete.
