Bartolomaeus is an Imperial Spellsword described by the residents of Seitur as "a strange, illusive hermit who stops in town for supplies every few weeks." He appears to enjoy fishing, and can be found engaged in that quiet pursuit on a beach north of town.
During Freedom for a Fiend, it transpires that Bartolomaeus once fought and sealed away an ancient evil, but did so imperfectly. That evil spirit now seeks revenge, and will possess Bartolomaeus if you side with it and defeat him. The Imperial does not go down easily however.
If you choose to side with Bartolomaeus instead and destroy the Fiend, then he will express his intention to leave for places unknown, rewarding you with his Signet Ring.
