Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Fasele of Guls Manor is worried about her master's personality shift

Enter the Guls Manor in Akamora, and the first person you meet will be the slave Fasele who worries that her master, Ainab Guls has been acting very strangely recently. He constantly insults her and belittles her every effort, making her life almost unbearable. She suggests talking with Ainab about the matter, or trying to find a Dunmer trader in a brown shirt who visited Ainab before the change happened.

Fasele doesn't know where to find the trader, and Ainab is both uncooperative and rude. You should instead ask any other Akamora Trader (e.g. those at the Bazaar) about the topic (with 40+ disposition) to discover that an individual of that description was seen in the Laughing Goblin inn. It's located just near the Bazaar, with the door on the opposite side of the street.

Ask Liuba Onamas, the publican of the inn, or any patron in the main hall, and they will respond Sounds like you are looking for Reram Vares. He's visiting from the north and is staying here in the Laughing Goblin inn for a few days. Look around, and you'll quickly find the Dunmer matching the description, Reram Vares, not far from the bar.

Reram Vares is the member of House Telvanni, and will react accordingly if you belong to the same Great House. Confront him, and ask about Ainab Guls, but, oddly enough, he says that he doesn't know the name. Continue asking, saying that you don't believe his words, and he will admit that he paid him a visit. Since Ainab once was also a member of House Telvanni, as revealed later, this seem to be some kind of a revenge from the faction rather than personal conflict. Continue asking, in a very convincing way, saying How much do you like your fingers?, and he responds: Ok, fine. I gave him a cursed amulet. If he keeps it near him, it will erode his personality. Say, how about we do a deal on this? If you keep quiet about this, I'll make sure that some of my friends in Port Telvannis cut you some good deals. What do you say?

Sounds rather tempting, and this is one of the possible ways to solve the quest, but Fasele will be left to suffer. A more humanistic approach will be to return back to Guls Manor, and look for the Unusual Amulet on the shelf by the bed. Once you find it, leave the manor and your journal will be updated. Go back, and talk with Fasele about Ainab again. She will be happy that his personality is now restored, and although she doesn't have any way to thank you for your efforts, says that a friend of Ainab named Dulis Llendu, may have a reward if you tell her about the case.

You may find Dulis Llendu just outside, not far from Guls Manor, if you turn left and go upstairs upon leaving the manor. She will thank you and reward with 200 gold.

NotesEdit

  • There's no key from Fasele's slave bracers, so it's impossible to free her. Moreover, if you attack her master, she will fight you till death defending him, so she seem to be very attached to Ainab. If you ask her about Background topic, she responds I don't mind being a slave, really. If I was free I would never be able to live in as nice a house as this. My daily tasks are never anything exceedingly difficult, just a little cooking and cleaning
  • If you talk with Ainab after the quest is completed, he will gladly share his personal story with you if you choose Background topic, and reveal the nature of conflict with the House Telvanni. He will say I was born in the northern town of Ranyon-ruhn and became a sorcerer in the service of House Telvanni. However, I soon realized it was not the right path for me. I'd been raised as a Temple follower, and I couldn't reconcile my religious beliefs with being a Telvanni. After leaving the House, I decided to move south where people are more tolerable
