Editing Morrowind Spell ListsEdit

Hi Aegithalos

I've noticed that you've been making quite a few contributions to the Morrowind namespace recently, which is great. There's not very many of us doing so anymore, so contributions are always welcome. I did want to ask where you're getting some of the information you're contributing, though--are you using the Construction Set or are you getting the information in-game?

The reason I ask is that I was puzzled by your recent edit of Estirdalin. You "corrected" her spell list by removing Paralysis from the list of spells she sells (but good catch on Earwig--I'm surprised that went unnoticed for so long). A Spell Merchant will always sell all the spells on their spell list (except for their birthsign abilities, of course); however, they will not sell a spell to a character if the character already knows that spell. You'll notice that a spell will disappear from a merchant's list after you buy it from them. So if you were using an in-game character and already had the Paralysis spell (from any source), Estirdalin would not have offered to sell that spell to you. For this reason, it's not a good idea to use an in-game character to check an NPC's spell list.

I'm not sure if that's what happened in this case, but it occurred to me as a possibility and I thought I would bring it to your attention anyway. Thanks again for your contributions! — Wolfborn(Howl) 00:02, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi Wolfborn,
Thank you very much for bringing this issue to my attention. I was not aware of the fact that Spell Merchants sell every spell on their spell list, which is indeed the reason for my erroneous "correction" of yesterday. Since I thought that some NPC's might know more spells than they actually sell (and was silly enough to not take the fact that spells which you already know do not occur in any vendor's list into account), I first checked her spells in the Construction Set and then compared this list with those that she sells to my character in-game. And since Bound Dagger and Paralysis were not offered to my character (who indeed already knew these spells), I came to the conclusion that she simply does not sell these spells even though she does know them.
I appreciate you pointing this out to me and shall bear this in mind whenever I check spell lists from this point onwards. And, of course, any further tips or remarks that you may have are always welcome. Aegithalos (talk) 07:53, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Thank YouEdit

I just wanted to stop by to thank you for your work in transcribing dialogue from Morrowind! I haven't been able to do much of it myself since I've been busy with ESO, and Morrowind severely lacks dialogue documentation, so I'm really grateful for the work you've been doing. -MolagBallet (talk) 18:04, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

You're welcome! I appreciate your taking the time to thank me for my efforts and am happy to hear that you like what I have been doing thus far, concerning the dialogue from Morrowind. I agree that the Morrowind namespace is severely lacking when it comes to dialogue documentation, and I intend to do something about that before I return to working on walkthroughs and other stuff related to ESO. Cheers! Aegithalos (talk) 21:31, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
