Technically speaking, your change to the userboxes page wasn't what I'd intended, but what I'd intended was just wrong. ;) I'd been looking up at the Deities section, where the third column is a description, and hadn't noticed that for the Platforms section, the third column was the category. Wow! I'm both honoured and flattered to be considered for a patroller nomination. However, my RL commitments are changing at the moment, and I likely won't have as much time to devote to wiki-related activities going forward as I have over the past several months. I would hate to be successfully nominated and then find I don't have the time to properly carry out the duties and responsibilities of my new role. Therefore, after thinking it over, and as much I would love to accept, I have decided to decline the nomination at this time. Question regarding patrollingEdit

Hi there Wolfborn, I have a question regarding patrolling the recent changes of the Oblivion and Shivering Isles pages. I noticed you're a patroller yourself of those pages. I'm a passive one myself since I try to read all the changes made to those pages.

My question is that I missed the changes between the 1st of July and the 10th of August, and I wonder if I'm still able somehow see the changes that have been made between those dates. I can only look back 90 days at most it seems. If its not possible, perhaps there is a way for me to at least check the changes made by you within that time span, since you seem to be one of the more active patrollers for the Oblivion and Shivering Isles pages, both regular and talk.--C0rTeZ48 (talk) 12:37, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi C0rTeZ48. Apologies for the delayed reply; I have been inactive on the wiki for the past couple of months due to other projects and I just noticed your post today.
Regarding changes, the Recent Changes page is limited to maximum of 90 days; this is a wiki setting and cannot be changed, except perhaps by Daveh or maybe an administrator. If you want to check any changes I may have made during the period in question, you can do so here. As a general note, you can check any user's contribution history by going to the User Contributions page and entering their username. Hope this helps you out!
Also please note that I am not formally a patroller. I was offered patrollership nomination earlier this year, but declined due to time-constraint concerns. I'm just a plain old editor who tends to check the changes to Oblivion pages because that's the game I happen to be playing through at the moment!

Image for Oblivion traps page is available on DiscordEdit

Hello!

You added the "needs image" tag to the "Broken Grate" entry on the Oblivion traps page, back in August 2021, after I created the entry for that trap.

There are a couple of images for that trap available on the Discord. Probably only one of them needs to be added to the wiki; I just took two screenshots so there would be a choice. I'm not sure if you are on the Discord, but if you are, https://discord.com/channels/261544750044282883/666710678492413982/903887768038539304 should take you to the post with the screenshots. If you're not on the Discord, one of the other "name" wiki editors should be able to access that link.

Hello, I hope you are doing well! Just letting you know, we don't want to use the lore link to hide red links. You can see a conversation about the intended use case with more links to relevant documentation on that template here. Essentially, for pages that do not transclude out of lorespace, we should avoid avoid using that template. It slows down pages it is on, and it stops red links from displaying (which are desired if we intend for that page to ever exist). Hi AKB! Yes, I do remember reading something about changing Lore Link usage, but that was a while ago and it had slipped my mind. In truth, what I was really doing with that edit was undoing the previous editor's changing of the link to a gamespace one since we don't use gamespace links on lore pages; I just hit Undo and didn't really notice that it was still an old Lore Link. Only problem with this practice is that on the mobile website (on my Safari, at any rate), self links confusingly look just like ordinary links—they only appear as boldface on desktop view. Undone Changes on BlackmailEdit

Hello, I address you concerning you undoing my changes to Daggerfall:Blackmail with the comment "UESP doesn't cover using hex editors to alter game or save files for cheating purposes". I'm a bit confused about this. This is not a cheat, but rather a bugfix, since the bad quest design makes it impossible to play two quests that should be able to be played; this can also be seen by the intended quest dialogs (and the creator of the page seems to see it in the same way, otherwise this shouldn't be listed under "Bugs" but under "Notes" instead). Also similar things appear on other quest pages, just to mention a few examples:

The last two points are definitely more cheats then bug fixes and still part of the pages.

I spent lots of time to reverse engineer how the quest is triggered to figure out how to resolve the problem of the quest being unplayable since I ran into the same problem and wanted to be able to play them. I think it would really be a pitty if someone else struggled with the same problem and would never know that it can be resolved this easily and I would be very glad if my time spent could also help someone else in this way.

If it is really not possible to leave the paragraph in the page the way I added it, would it be at least possible to add the information somewhere else and mention that one can take a look there? Similar to the way it was done on the page Daggerfall:Dust_of_Restful_Death, something like "if blabla try this (<- link) to render the quest playable".

Hello, and thanks for bringing up your concerns. First off, I must confess that I didn't see this was a proposed bug fix rather than a way to circumvent intended game behaviour. I am also not familiar with Daggerfall having never played the game myself. Having said that, I still have concerns about providing hex-editing instructions on the wiki, even if they are for a bug fix. The problem with hex-editing is that starts to fall into a grey area, not just morally but legally as well, since hex editors can be used to circumvent far more than just game bugs. The question becomes, at what point does altering the game files fall foul of the EULA? UESP is not a hack or crack site and we need to operate within legal bounds. In addition, it appears the bug in question has been addressed and fixed by an "unofficial" patch (DFQFIX, which is even hosted on this site) which would negate the necessity of needing to alter files in order to fix the problem. Given all of this, I am not comfortable in reinstating the edit on my own. Rather than making this decision unilaterally, I will put this out to the wider community for additional input. Few questions regarding specific item locations in TES IV OblivionEdit

Hey Wolfborn, I've noticed your reply just on the talk page of Fort Homestead. Thanks for adding it. I have a few questions, and thought this was the best place to ask you. I don't have Oblivion on PC, merely just on Xbox, so I can't check for certain things. Maybe you are willing to help to find a few other particular items I wasn't able to find: do you know of the location of the goblin tome in Barren Mine? I think it perhaps sinks in the floor or something, since it's never where it's supposed to be. I asked on the talk page a long time ago, but nobody has yet replied. Garlas Malatar also apparently has a wilderness chest (not the ayleid cask nearby), perhaps before the KotN DLC is installed? Finally, Ebrocca, Fiele also seems to have a diamond I wasn't able to locate. Perhaps you would know? Just some interesting stuff I wondered about, I somehow really like learning more stuff about Oblivion every day. C0rTeZ48 (talk) 23:02, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi C0rTeZ48! Regarding the Goblin Totem Staff (which is what I assume you meant by "goblin tome") in Barren Mine: The short answer is that yes, it does exist, but if you can't find it anywhere then it has probably fallen through the floor never to be seen again. The long answer is that I can't say for certain what happened to the staff if you can't find it, but there are a couple of possibilities:
  • First, as defined in the CS, the staff is originally located exactly where the article says, at location "C" on the map. However, its original position puts it floating in the air, so as soon as you enter the mine the staff will fall to the floor. Due to a bug with the Goblin Totem Staffs' collision properties, they often fall through the floor when they're dropped, so this might be what's happening in your case.
  • The other possibility is that you've been looking in the wrong place. While the staff is originally located in the final chamber, it has a script attached to it which is supposed to move it to the Tribal Marker in its home location. In Barren Mine, the Tribal Marker is actually located in the second-last chamber (the large one where the dead captive is found at "E"). The staff should be lying on the ground right between the two red dots on the map (which is where I found it when I checked in-game). However, there are problems with the script in the vanilla game, and again the staff may have fallen through the floor here due to the move. All of these issues are (more or less) fixed by the UOP, which is why I was able to find the staff in my game, but since you're on Xbox that unfortunately doesn't help you out any.
The Wilderness Chest near Garlas Malatar does indeed exist without KotN installed; it's located on the western shore of the island next to the large rock about halfway up. I've marked the location with a green dot on the map to the right. Whether the chest still exists after KotN is installed I can't say since I don't have KotN (or any DLC for that matter), however I don't see why it wouldn't since KotN doesn't appear to touch that specific location from what I can see on the map. If it does still exist after Garlas Malatar is added, the information should probably be added to the Garlas Malatar page.
As far as the diamond in Ebrocca goes, unfortunately I can't help with that since I don't have Shivering Isles. (I only have an old disc copy of the original game, and quite frankly I'm not interested in most of the DLC at all, certainly not enough to buy the entire game again, but that's a story for another day.)

Btw, I have a question regarding the cslist.uesp.net: is it possible to find locations of particular items on there (f.e. the Goblin Totem Staff or wilderness chest you mentioned)? And also, is it possible for me to know what enemies have a particular leveled list? F.e., I want to know what enemies have the LL2LootStaff10 (0x000979fb) Item ID in their inventory.
Unfortunately, the cslist doesn't really provide the functionality you're looking for, at least not in any practical or convenient manner. For item locations, you would first need to know the RefID of the specific object you're looking for, which doesn't help if all you know is that you're looking for a "diamond" or a "chest in the wilderness". Even if you did somehow manage to find out that the chest you're looking for is RefID 0x000c08fd, looking up its record in the cslist would tell you which cell it's located in and its X,Y,Z coordinates in that cell, but there's no practical way to translate those coordinates onto the map (at least, not unless you can find a map which shows a detailed coordinate grid, and I don't know of any maps that do). As far as finding out which records use (or reference) another specific record (such as which enemies use LL2LootStaff10), there's no way to do that using cslist (aside from looking through the records manually, which is highly impractical to say the least).
Btw, I can tell you that LL2LootStaff10 does not appear in any enemy inventories; this list is found exclusively in boss-type containers (22 different ones, to be exact; mostly necro / conjurer / vampire / mythic enemy (i.e. monster) boss containers, along with 4 types of boss containers found in Oblivion planes. Each of these 22 different container types appears multiple times in the game in turn; in total, there are 153 of these boss containers scattered throughout Cyrodiil (if I counted correctly) while the number you might find in Oblivion planes will vary depending on which random worlds and which random cave segments you wind up getting. Also remember that this info is for the base game only; DLCs will almost certainly add more instances where this leveled list is used).

Thank you for your reply! I know of a specific program called Horizon by which I can edit save files and relocate myself to any point of the map using X,Y,Z coordinates, even out of bounds or to remote exterior/interior cells like the Testing Hall, even on Xbox360. Therefore, if I knew the location, finding some particular item would not be of any challenge to me. See more information here if you so desire.
Also, I asked you about that specific list because I actually found two types of enemies using that particular list. But as you said, they are DLC enemies. C0rTeZ48 (talk) 13:58, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Nomination for PatrollerEdit

Hi Wolfborn. I see that you were asked this same question almost 3 years ago, but I'm going to follow up. I would like to nominate you for Patroller.

You have been an incredible asset to UESP for a long while now. You clean up vandalism as it happens, warn IPs, post on the admin noticeboard, welcome new users, and all the edits I review from you are patroller-quality edits. All that being a patroller will change is giving you the tools to do even more. There isn't much of an expectation on being active. Heck, I've been an admin here for years and was essentially absent all of 2022. The more patrollers we have who deserve it, the more coverage we have in cleaning up our pesky little red exclamation marks.

On top of this, if your nomination were successful, which I have no doubt, I would like to grant you blocker rights. You have shown over time that you know how to enforce the wiki's policies, and you seem to be on top of these vandals more often than even a lot of admins. Again, there's no expectation of you being more active, or even maintaining your level of activity. These are tools that I know you will use well. Think about it. I'm not sure if your opinion has changed in 3 years, but I'm betting it has.

If for whatever reason, you would prefer to decline, I would like to nominate you for Autopatrolled status. This will at least mean we no longer have to patrol your edits, because we know they're going to be just fine. Thanks for the kind words and vote of confidence! I still don't have a lot of time to devote to the wiki, but I do tend to look things up on a regular basis and I usually end up checking the Recent Edits every time I'm here anyway, so I might as well make it official and help you get rid of a few of those red exclamation marks while I'm at it. I'd be happy to accept your nomination for Patroller status and continue helping the wiki and this community in any way I can.
As far as blocker privileges go, that's something I've actually considered asking about. As you've noted, I've been involved in helping to combat vandalism as it's actively occurring on more than one occasion, and having a way to shut it down would certainly be handy. It's not something I foresee myself using very often, and I would certainly exercise the utmost discretion and care when using it, but when it's needed, it's needed. However, this is something we can follow up on after the Patrollership nomination has been (hopefully) successfully dealt with.

Lightning StormEdit

Hey, I think the Lightning Storm page would really benefit from a trivia section, to separate the useful stuff from the relatively useless trivia like not being able to kill hawks. Personally, it reads much better that way and looks a lot better.

The UESP's mission is to create a high-quality encyclopedic guide which comprehensively documents the Elder Scrolls series. As such, the community has standardized on using a "Notes" section in our articles rather than "Trivia" to include any noteworthy information which doesn't fit in the main body of the article, as this presents a more professional tone and appearance. The trouble is, many pages have become so cluttered with extensive notes sections they become essentially unreadable. The reason I added the trivia section is because three times now, I've added details which I only realized were already mentioned significantly afterwards, because the important info was buried under other, less-important info(like the aforementioned hawks bit).
Having a bit of a distinction between the two wouldn't hurt, I don't think.

Again, the current wiki standard is a single Notes section. If you feel the standard should be changed, the appropriate course of action would be to create a post on the Community Portal stating your case for why you feel the change is necessary and allowing the community to consider your proposal and come to a consensus. I don't personally have any power to unilaterally override or change the wiki standards.
Personally, I feel the current standard is fine as-is without the need to create what would essentially amount to two separate "notes" sections. If information is important enough to be distinguished from the regular Notes, it should probably be incorporated into the main body of the article anyway, rather than adding yet another level of granularity and complexity (which in itself wouldn't guarantee that the information you're looking for would be added to the "correct" section by another editor anyway). And, while I agree that the Notes sections on some articles are poorly organized, I believe the solution is to reorganize, clean up, and move information around to make it more accessible within the existing structure; adding another section isn't guaranteed to solve anything and just creates more work. — Wolfborn(Howl) 08:59, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

CleanImage: too darkEdit

I see you've labeled all the Morrowind NPC images that I spent a good amount of time yesterday capturing, cropping and reformatting, as either "CleanImage: too dark" or "CleanImage: could be lighter". Admittedly some of them are dark, because Morrowind is an extremely dark game, oversaturated in drab browns. (You should have seen all the ones I discarded!) But as per Help:Images, they were captured in a gamma far brighter than the default. Even so, if it means that much to you, you can make the images lighter using an editor. I fail to see the problem. skyrim:NimheEdit

Bug VerificationsEdit

You removed the verification tag from a bug I added to the page for Skyrim:Dungeon Delving (Bandits) regarding Shahvee not giving her favor quest. The reason I included a verification tag is that I was told that the threshold for verification is low, and there are references from other users to this bug all over the discussion pages. So I do not consider this is my verifying my own bug, but my verification of a bug that numerous people have complained about but never took the trouble to document on the actual page. The wiki standard for bug reports is that all bugs need to be independently confirmed by at least one other user playing an unmodded, vanilla version of the game. This is to prevent users from self-confirming bugs which are somehow unique to their setup (e.g. a corrupted save file) or are caused by third-party mods (since not all contributors are aware that gamespace pages document vanilla gameplay only). As RobinHood mentioned on your talk page, such independent confirmation can come from a variety of sources, but it does need to be there in some form.
In this case, I did see the previous thread regarding a similar bug; however, that thread is 12 years old and there have been no other reports of this bug until yours, so I decided to err on the side of caution and removed the confirmation. After a discussion, and with Skyrim being Skyrim, it appears that the older thread is sufficient confirmation that this bug still exists, so I've gone ahead and re-confirmed the bug. Ah. I didn't think to check Shahvee's page, thanks for the pointer. Yeah, there are plenty of more recent posts about it there. Looking at the last topic on that page, it seems there are a large number of other radiant quests which might interfere with Shahvee's. Interestingly, I got Shahvee's quest when I had both Oengul's and Brunwulf's quests active, so it seems they don't always interfere with each other. Would be interesting to get to the bottom of this so we can add definitive info to the quest article. — Wolfborn(Howl) 05:24, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

As I mentioned on some page or other about this, this character has only cleared Cragslane Cavern which has long since reset. I also reloaded a save from before the character had cleared ANY of the target locations, and Shahvee STILL wouldn't give him the quest. I don't think that's what's causing the problem. At least not for me. I also tried following her into the Argonian Assemblage with no luck. I really don't know what to do other than keep playing and hope that whatever is blocking it gets cleared. If it turns out to be from completing a quest, then the question will become whether the quest is a prerequisite or whether doing the quest cleared some variable that activated the dialogue option. ArngeirEdit

Noticed you undid my last edit on the Arngeir page. I admit my edit was done in haste, but I did so because someone on the talk page mentioned they’d seen Arngeir and the other Greybeards using this shout in the courtyard. I did some digging and found that someone else on reddit also had this happen to them, and another person commented that it happened to them too. It might be best to list it as a bug, but I will probably do some in game testing to see if I can get it to happen to me.

Hmmm... this is strange. I can confirm that at least one Greybeard (Einarth) practices the Clear Skies shout--I saw (and heard) him do so from the top of the tower the last time I was at High Hrothgar. However, checking in xEdit, it turns out that none of the Greybeards actually have actually been given the Clear Skies shout (confirmed by checking in the CSList; you can see the list of shouts each Greybeard knows here: Arngeir; Borri; Einarth; Wulfgar; see the Spell ID lists at the bottom of each page). So how they're able to practice a shout they haven't technically been given is a mystery.
Unfortunately, the Creation Kit doesn't work with the GoG version of the game (which is what I have), so I can't dig into the nitty-gritty technical workings of the game the way I have with Morrowind and Oblivion. If I had to guess, I'd say this is being done either through their AI package or through scripting (or perhaps a mix of both), but that's all it is--a guess. I'll ask around to see if I can get some more information on how this is accomplished, because now I'm curious myself. I can confirm that I heard one of them using the Clear Skies shout in the courtyard - for some reason I couldn't find them, despite using both Aura Whisper and Detect Life. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough, but we definitely know it happens. Unfortunately I can't be of any help, since I'm on Switch, so I have no way to look at any of the game data, but hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.
