Welcome!Edit

Hello Kailomonkey! Welcome to UESPWiki! It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, click here for a list of userboxes you can use, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! •WoahBro►talk 19:53, 30 January 2015 (GMT)

Thankyou. I'm not sure what I'll have to contribute but have already made use of the user boxes link!kailomonkey

AdviceEdit

Hello and welcome to UESPWiki! Thanks for your interest in the wiki; however, you seem to have been making multiple edits to a page by not using the show preview button, clogging up the Recent Changes in the process. We appreciate your enthusiasm, but keep in mind that each edit needs to be patrolled, so multiple consecutive edits create an unnecessary hassle on those who patrol. So please utilize this feature! You may also want to look over our style guide and Getting Started guide. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Zul se onikaanLaan tinvaak 12:36, 4 February 2015 (GMT)

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate the feedback but I have been utilising the preview function. I'm afraid I am limited by technology to the ps3 browser and controller right now which could affect my editing proficiency. May I enquire for the specifics of the complaint?

I have been editing my User page a lot to my enjoyment and if this is an issue, would it help to be ticking the minor edit box while working on my User page? Given my technical limitations I can only edit in small steps which I do preview constantly while editing.

Aside from this I think I've only edited 1 wiki page which I edited by section and did find mistakes to correct after several readings that I missed earlier. What can I do differently? It is my understanding that some members are good at adding info but with messy writing and others like to tend to small mistakes made by users that have less perfect writing, and that both types of editor are appreciated: If I make mistakes as the former but also re-read over and over and pick up errors should I not also act as the latter in the interest of improving the wiki in both senses?

While I appreciate your advice might have been in all good faith to inform a new user that didn't know about the preview button; I do know about it, I use it, and I have tried to apply myself respectfully. So I find criticism so soon a touch upsetting. So please, if you can, specify which of these I am doing wrong. And if it is something I cannot help, due to my technical limitations or personal capacity, but considered more disruptive than beneficial, I shall of course cease.

Again, I am typing with a ps3 controller here, so whereas you might think I have written little to excuse mistakes, it has infact taken me about an hour just to type this respone and just as I put in the effort to do so, I also put in a lot of time previewing and re-reading initially to the best of my ability before saving.

The main issue with the small edits you're making is that there's a lot of them to one page which clogs up the Recent Changes. It's just a nuisance for us patrollers who have to make sure each edit is correct and/or appropriate. It's not a major rules infraction by any means, it's just courtesy to try and have what was a bunch of small edits be one large one, you know what I'm saying? And also, checking the "minor edits" box really doesn't do anything, it just allows others to gauge how big an edit is. As for your technical limitations, editing on a PS3 is definitely not recommended. If not for the time consumption, it's just sooooo much easier editing on a good ol' computer (and easier to catch/fix mistakes). So if possible, definitely try and use a computer, laptop, or even an iPad (although iPad editing isn't as good as a computer). If not, just try your best to make do. Hope this answers some of your concerns, happy editing! •WoahBro►talk 15:31, 4 February 2015 (GMT)
Thank you for showing understanding and consideration. It is a real pain working through ps3. I had a preference to making edits to different sections individually such that their different nature were clearer, but following these messages I will keep page edits contained to 1 edit where possible.

Unfortunately I am stuck with ps3 only for now. Laptop would be so much nicer. Thank you for the encouragement to keep editing. Does the number of personal User page edits affect anyone else? As I'd like to continue building it but really cannot do so in anything other than steps. --Kailomonkey (talk) 15:48, 4 February 2015 (GMT)
Nope. Like I said, it just clutters up the Recent Changes. And you don't have to only make one edit, it can be 2 or 3, as long as it's not like 4-5+ consecutive edits to the same page. A couple edits a few hours apart over a day or two isn't a big deal. •WoahBro►talk 18:08, 4 February 2015 (GMT)
Oh a page for Recent Changes across the wiki, I see. kailomonkey (talk) 10:26, 8 February 2015 (GMT)
