Hello!Edit

Awesome Arena Work!Edit

Welcome to the UESP! I've seen you are a capable delver into the dark depths of Arena's code. That's a very useful skill for this project! I wanted to double check which version of the game you were using in your data gathering. One of the other editors, RobinHood, noted that one of the addresses you supplied was slightly different from the version he was looking at, but he could not recall which version of the data he had. Hopefully, we can use the latest version of the game for those purposes.

I also had a question that I'm currently not capable of investigating. Ria Silmane has a final cutscene that is to direct you to the Imperial Palace, but it doesn't seem to play in the latest versions of the game. I've been very curious if it was in any of the early versions of the game. I've also wondered if its absence is due to a bug, or was an intentional disabling. I realize that discovering these answers is probably much more difficult than pulling raw numbers from the code! Still, if you have the wizardry and the desire, I'd be incredibly grateful to have those answers!

Regardless of these things, you are doing good work. Thanks for your great contributions! --Lost in Hyrule (talk) 01:22, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Hopefully you are watching this page. I've never used a user TALK page before, but I did eventually receive notice that I had a message. Hopefully you will somehow know I responded. __Thank you for your kind comments. As to my abilities, I have a wide area of general knowledge, but in truth, little experience. I know just enough to get myself in trouble. I'm a dabbler, but I love to learn and I especially enjoy if that dabbling can somehow help. __Because it seems that the majority of users have access to Arena v1.06, that is my primary focus. I personally play the CD version 1.07; so for any testing, I also check to ensure it is the same in both versions. If you find where any address I mention doesn't match other information, I would be grateful to know. It could be simply a typo, or a piece of companion code that I'm not yet aware of. If it's simply a version difference, I'd like to know that too. My desire is to contribute some technical notes, showing where the game differs from the Player's Guide, and Codex Scientia and list the code address so others can verify the information, but not have to reproduce the work to find it. __I have seen some comment about the Ria Silmane cutscene you mentioned. That should be pretty straight forward to test previous versions. The trouble will be finding a save game close to that point or taking the time to play my way there. (I could probably use the cheat encountered with 1.07 to fast track that.) Digging into the code may take some time, but I'd also like see if I can find some answers. --Satribe (talk) 02:14, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
That all sounds good, and I'm glad you're undertaking the effort! Manually checking with game progress is certainly tricky, but the Stonekeep glitch would help. Thanks for the response! --Lost in Hyrule (talk) 15:46, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
I've been able to discover much more than I thought I might. I thought I should direct you to the forum discussion:Ria Silmane - missing Imperial Palace message The final post is a summary of my investigation. I think I stated before that no one would be able to state with "certainty" if it was intentional, but it's not a bug, per se. It is a specific value that prevents it, and raising it by one number allows the message to show. Was it accidentally set one too low? Now that I know I can manipulate the right areas; is there any specific condition you would want tested, or any further questions you may have, or I forgot to answer? --Satribe (talk) 22:03, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Nope, and I'm very impressed with your diligence on this! I'm still inclined to believe it was a mistake, as no information about the Jewel of Fire or the win-condition for the game is explained otherwise. That it never played properly in game I suppose means it wasn't an intentional removal with a patch, at least. Need someone with UESP clout to ask an Arena dev/writer, I guess! --Lost in Hyrule (talk) 15:56, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for the great workEdit

Just wanted to say that I watch most of your arena edits and they are always a delight to see such dedication. Don't be discouraged if you don't get any answer to a talk page. Almost no one nowadays is knowledgeable about the game, and your findings on the talk pages leave a great track record for future editors! --Ilaro (talk) 18:24, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
