Tales of TributeEdit

He will be asking Guiffa Larocque for a rematch of Tribute, but Guiffa refuses to entertain the thought.

Brahgas: "Come on, just one more match. Give me a chance to win my gold back!"
Guiffa Larocque: "And what will you bet? That ridiculous nose ring? Find another racket, Braghas. Tribute ain't for you."

If you choose to start the quest through him directly:

"Heard all that, eh? Guiffa's a palms-up cardsharp. One of the best Tribute players in town. But, like I always say, if you want to take the measure of a graht, you've got to climb!
That nose ring gibe was unnecessary, right? I'll get her next time!"
What is Tribute, exactly?
"Tales of Tribute! It's a card game, a scavenger hunt…Z'en's price, it's practically a religion for some folks.
Players match wits and decks in a contest of courage, preparation, and skill. You want fame? Gold? It's all there for the taking!"
Sounds interesting. How would someone get started?
"Ha! A fresh player! Excellent!
First things first. You need to learn the rules of the game. And you'll need a couple decks of Tribute cards, of course. Find Razhamad in the Gonfalon Gaming Hall. Tell him Brahgas sent you. He'll get you sorted."
All right, I'll speak to Razhamad at the Gonfalon Gaming Hall.

If you chose to start the quest through Sorinne or reading the note:

Someone told me I should talk to you about Tales of Tribute.
"Sorinne, right? She definitely has an eye for talent!
Yes, I can tell you all about Tribute! It's a card game, a scavenger hunt ... Z'en's price, it's practically a religion for some folk. You want fame? Gold? It's all there for the taking!"
Sounds interesting. How do I get started?
"Ha! A fresh player! Excellent!
First things first. You need to learn the rules of the game. And you'll need a couple decks of Tribute cards, of course. Find Razhamad in the Gonfalon Gaming Hall. Tell him Brahgas sent you. He'll get you sorted."
All right, I'll speak to Razhamad.

Asking further questions:

"Razhamad's the game-baron here in Gonfalon Bay. You won't find a kinder or more knowledgeable player west of High Rock. Not that he'll go easy on you, mind!
He expects the best from the players he trains. Trust me. I should know!"
So, who are you exactly?
"Ha! Y'ffre's bones, an introduction would be nice, wouldn't it?
Call me Brahgas. Professional gambler and semi-professional everything else. Aside from sailor, of course. I hate the water."
What brings you to High Isle?
"The better question would be, "what made you leave Valenwood?" The answer, my friend, is debt collectors. Vigorous ones.
Once I save up enough I might go back. But I'm in no hurry. When a stiff breeze comes through, the Systres are really beautiful."
You mentioned a gaming hall?
"Aye. The big building there.
Used to be a House Mornard villa, believe it or not. House Dufort seized it during the transition of the duchy, but got tired of paying for the upkeep. The Duchess sold the place to Razhamad about a year ago."
So, now people just play games in there?
"Well, we drink in there too.
People need a place to relax, chum. The Ancient Anchor's fine for sailors on shore leave, but people looking for a really good time always come here. Plus, it serves as our Tribute chapter seat."
Chapter seat?
"Yeah. A chapter is like a team of sorts. The Gonfalon Chapter meets here.
But we're wandering into a weeds a bit. Focus on the game, first. We'll discuss the rest later."
What was going on with that woman, exactly?
"Oh, Guiffa? Just a lover's spat. She loves making fun of my nose ring and I love losing money to her…apparently. Match made in Aetherius."
Does Tales of Tribute involve a lot of betting?
"Usually? No, no. Most players are in it for the joy of competition. But you know what they say—if there's an uncertain outcome, someone's got gold for it.
I play a lot of unsanctioned matches. Putting skin in the game keeps things fresh."

Razhamad will eventually tell you to go to Brahgas to learn Tribute through an initiation match. Brahgas will be back in the first room, to the left as you exit the second room, sitting at a tribute table.

"Hey! If it isn't my new old friend! Found the place easy enough, eh? Pull up a chair, have a drink! As long as you're buying, of course. I'm, uh ... well, I'm a little light in the purse at the moment.
So, you talk to Razhamad yet?"
I'm ready to play. Razhamad said you were a good teacher.
"Oh, did he? Oh, I love it when we bring new players into the fold! Gets boring playing the same old salts day after day. We need new blood in here!
Now, before we begin, you'll need these. Two Tribute decks you can borrow for educational purposes!"
What do I do with these?
"You try to defeat me, of course! First to forty prestige, or winning the favor of all the patrons, is the victor. Don't worry, chum. I'll explain that as we go along.
And loosen up, eh? You'll do fine. I'll go easy on you!"
Let's play.

If you haven't started the match yet:

"Ha! You're making me nervous standing around like that. Come on, have a seat. Let's get started!"

After the practice match:

"This is just the beginning! There are more decks to acquire and more—slightly less handsome—players to defeat!
Now, I know our lesson went quickly. So, if you're confused on any details, check out the handbook there on the bar!"

A New VentureEdit

While you are looking for Brahgas and Sorinne, you walk in onto a secret conversation they're having before he leaves:

Sorinne Gaerard: "Brahgas, I told you…I can't do that. You know the rules. Those days are behind me."
Brahgas: "Hey, of course! Just trying to help out my friends. No worries, all right?"

After speaking to Kishka, she will direct you to find Brahgas outside the club:

"Ah , there's my new favorite Roister!
I guess if you've spoken to Sorinne and Kishka and gotten their sage advice, it's down to me to provide the final part of the chapter's introductions. And provide one last little acorn of wisdom."
What else do I need to know?
"We should have a word about decks, I guess. Those decks Razhamad gave you are just the beginning. Fresh decks pop up all over Tamriel, and each of them offers a unique style of play.
You can even find upgrades to the cards you already own!"
How do I acquire these new cards and decks?
"I've earned a fair amount from just playing Tribute. Kishka offers them in her daily challenges sometimes, especially if you hit those win streaks!
I've even heard rumors that adventurers find them out in the wild!"
Can I find decks anywhere else?
"Well, between you, me, and old Bendu there, I've heard they might offer some new decks as prizes in the upcoming tournaments. Beyond that? It's a mystery.
Just keep working on raising that rank by playing matches. That's the best path to success!"
So, do I know everything now?
"Well, if not, you're close!
Go talk to Razhamad and let him know you introduced yourself to the chapter's premiere players. He'll be glad to hear it."

Speaking to him again before going to Razhamad:

"You know, you remind me of a young…well, me. Sharp, inquisitive, good-looking. You'll be ready for tournament play in no time!
Now, go see Razhamad. It's time for you to really take your place among us!"

The Tournament BeginsEdit

Sorinne and Brahgas will be back at the gaming hall after you speak to Razhamad

Sorinne Gaerard: "Quit pacing, Brahgas! Razhamad just had those tiles replaced."
Brahgas: "This isn't nerves, Sorinne. It's, uh ... excitement! I always pace when I'm excited, you know that!"

Brahgas will reveal his nerves when you speak to him:

"Tell me you signed up for the tournament! You did, didn't you? Great! That's great!
You're going to do great. We all are! Just got to focus, right? It's all about focus ... and breathing. Why are my ears sweating?"
Are you doing alright?
"Who, me? Yeah! I just get ... you know, a little anxious before tournament play. Nothing serious.
There are plenty of different opponents out there. I mean, we could get paired with anyone, right? And there are some chapters we won't see at all!"
Any preferences on who we play?
"Yes! Anyone but the Mournhold Chapter!
No, uh ... no specific reason! It's just... they're really good. That's all. But I wouldn't worry. I doubt they even sponsor a novice-tier team. They're a top-tier operation. Yeah, there's no way it's them."
If you say so.

After speaking to him, he will head out for some fresh air:

Brahgas: "Right, I need some fresh air. You should join me when you're ready. Our opponent should be here any moment now."

You'll meet the opposition outside and you can speak to Brahgas before speaking to Varnauld Broch:

"Varnauld Broch? Seriously? This guy couldn't beat a cross-eyed kwama!
Good practice, regardless. Let's crush these twerps!"

After speaking to Varnauld, Brahgas will just trash talk him:

Brahgas: "So, you're off to Glenumbra. Nice of the Roister's Club to go easy on us in the first round."
Varnauld Broch: "Hey, I heard that!"

Speaking to him again:

"I'd wish you good luck, but I don't think you'll need it. See you back here for drinks!"

He can be found in The Rosy Lion to support your first tournament match:

"Hey there, chum! Decided I'd come cheer you on during your first official tournament match. The beginning of a legend, eh? Good luck!"

After beating Fabermund Notte at Tribute:

"One down, two to go! Keep it up. We'll celebrate our victory soon enough!"

Once you defeated Cecile Nevim, travel to Wayrest, in Stormhaven, to play your final match. Varnauld will be waiting in the Cloudy Dregs Inn. He will be on the first floor this time, to the right of the front door. Brahgas and Sorinne will be there as well to watch the match. Speaking to him before facing Varnauld:

"You've played good games so far, friend. Now it's time to shove defeat into Varnauld Broch's expertly-coiffed beard. That's the Gonfalon Bay spirit!"

After beating Varnauld, Brahgas and Sorinne are laughing at Varnauld's fit:

Varnauld Broch: "What? How can—? All my careful planning—my strategies .... I can't lose! It's not possible!"
Brahgas: "Aw, look at that, Sorinne. I think Varnauld's about to cry."
Sorinne Gaerard: "Yup. He's definitely welling up. Here comes the waterfall."
Varnauld Broch: "Shut up! Just ... just shut up!"

Speaking to him before you return back to Gonfalon:

"Ha! Just look at him—thrashing about like a fish on a hook. Almost makes you feel bad for him. Almost.
You should head back to the club. Sorinne and I will meet you there soon. Right after we thump this weepy sod."

When you arrive back to the gaming hall, Sorinne will be dancing on the bar in celebration of your victory and Brahgas will beckon you to celebrate with him:

Gelekh: "Sorinne, how many times have I told you not to dance behind or on the bar? How many times?"
Sorinne Gaerard: "Ha! This is a victory dance, Gelekh! For victorious feet, there are no rules!"
Brahgas: "Isn't that the truth! Hey, our friend is back. Come, join us!"

Speaking to him:

"Poor Varnauld. After losing to you, he could barely bring himself to shuffle his cards. He blubbered the whole time. It was like playing a toddler!
I'd say you're just what this chapter needed!"
So, you both won as well?
"Yes, indeed! The players of Gonfalon Bay have all officially advanced to intermediate-tier play! Putting that Breton in his place felt good, but things are going to get much tougher from here.
But now's not the time for fretting. It's time to revel!"
What does advancing to intermediate play mean?
"It means that after Razhamad approves your promotion, you'll be able to challenge mid-tier Tribute players all across Tamriel! And it also means I can start paying off some of my debts.
You don't even realize how close I was to disaster."
What are you talking about?
"Just a little predicament I got myself into. I made a few side bets, you see? Big ones. After months of missed payments and ... well, I'd rather not think about it.
Anyway, if we keep this up I'll have nothing to worry about! Now, go see Razhamad!"

Speaking to him again before Razhamad:

"You keep winning games like that and you'll be in the advanced tier in no time.
Just keep training, completing Kishka's challenges, and gathering new cards. We all need to prepare for the next tournament!"

Challenges of the PastEdit

After reaching Adept rank in Tales of Tribute, he will appear in any of the major cities in Tamriel:

"Ah, there you are! I wasn't sure where to start looking for you. Looks like I got lucky!
It's a miracle, chum. Truly. Razhamad just said, "Brahgas, go find everyone, let them know the tournament is about to begin." How's that for directions?"
The next tournament is starting?
"Sure is! Hope you're prepared. This tournament's going to be much tougher than the last one.
Razhamad's waiting for you back at the gaming hall in Gonfalon Bay. He'll give you all the details. Now, I just need to find Sorinne ....
I'll talk to Razhamad in the Gonfalon Bay Gaming Hall [sic]

If you talk to him again before leaving:

"Maybe I'll get a drink before I head back to High Isle. Y'ffre knows you can't find a decent mug of rotmeth anywhere in that damned place."

After speaking to Master Razhamad and seeking out answers of what's bothering Sorinne. Brahgas will annoy Gelekh with the question if the Gonfalon Chapter will end up facing the Mournhold Chapter:

Brahgas: "So, just statistically speaking, what are the odds that we have to play the Mournhold Chapter next? They're low…right?"
Gelekh: "How's this for odds? There is a one-hundred percent chance that if you ask me again, I'm gonna break your legs."

Speaking to him to find out more about Sorinne:

"Today's the day! The Intermediate Tournament! I don't think I've ever had a sharper deck. I bet it could even beat one of those Mournhold decks! Not that I…I mean, there's no way we're playing them, right?
Sorry. Rambling. You need something?"
I'm looking for Sorinne. Have you seen her?
"Sorinne? She's been a little sullen the last couple of days. Something about a letter, I think? I saw her head upstairs earlier. Couldn't tell you if she's still up there or not.
Is something wrong?"
Maybe. Razhamad asked me to check on her.
"Maybe? What's that supposed to mean? She's going to pay, right? Right?
Z'en's price, she's not going to play, is she? Damn it! She's worked so hard. We all have! Did someone threaten her? Just give me a name! Let me at them!"
I don't know what's troubling her yet. That's why I need to find her.
"Think Brahgas think! She might have been…yeah, she was definitely talking to some Khajiit lady. It wasn't that long ago. The cat's probably still here in the Gaming Hall.
Just hurry. We've got some time before our opponents arrive, but not much!"

Speaking to him again:

"I'll see what I can find out down here. You go question that Khajiit!"

After speaking to Raenobi:

"I can't find Sorinne anywhere! Someone mentioned seeing her outside. Go check, will you?"

After checking up on Sorinne, you hurry to find Brahgas in the courtyard of the gaming hall. The Elden Root Chapter arrived with Raenobi as the leader of the competition.

Brahgas: "There you are! Z'en's price, I thought I was going to be the only one out here! Our opponents will be here any—"
Raenobi: "Greetings, walkers. Oh, Raenobi thought there would be more of you. Shame. Well, the games must go on, yes?"
Raenobi: "This one, Raenobi, adjutant game-baron of the Elden Root Chapter, hereby challenge the Gonfalon Bay players in this intermediate tournament!"

Speaking to him before Raenobi:

"That's her! That's the Khajiit that upset Sorinne!
Oh, we'll make her pay!"

After speaking to Raenobi, Sorinne will arrive to prove Raenobi that she's not backing down from this challenge despite goading her with skooma:

Sorinne Gaerard: "Always playing the same tricks, aren't you, Raenobi?"
Raenobi: "Oh, Sorinne. What a surprise! How did you enjoy this one's gift? Smooth and fragrant, yes?"
Sorinne Gaerard: "I wouldn't know. You'll have to ask the fish at the bottom of the harbor."
Brahgas: "That can't be good for them…."
Sorinne Gaerard: "I suggest you get ready for the tournament, Raenobi. We'll be seeing you soon."

Speaking to him at this point:

"Y'ffre's bones, I never seen Sorinne so focused. I think we might just have a chance!"

After you defeated Lentondil, you travel to Marbruk in Greenshade. Brahgas will be waiting for you and will mention to be careful with Malilen:

"Hey! I was waiting for you or Sorinne to show up. I already won my match—figured I'd cheer you on.
Just be careful with this Malilen, yeah? She's a quick thinker. Almost got me a couple of times."

When you defeat Malilen, Brahgas will see you in Elden Root to see you face off against Raenobi:

"Well played! Not that Malilen will remember. She's got more skooma than blood in those veins, I wager. She'll be lucky to make it home with all her teeth intact.
But enough about her. We have a tournament to win! See you in Elden Root."

He will be at Elden Root with Sorinne. Speaking to him before facing Raenobi:

"And here we are. Time to rub defeat into Raenobi's expertly-coiffed….
Hang on. Is it me, or are all of Gonfalon's opponents well-groomed? Or, maybe we're just scruffier than everyone else…."

After speaking Razhamad and turning in the quest, Brahgas and Sorinne will return and laugh at how Raenobi got more upset at losing to Sorinne:

Brahgas: "I swear, Sorinne, I've never seen anything like it. She was so mad by the time I got there, she just flipped the table and walked away!"
Sorinne Gaerard: "Honestly, I only poured salt in an open wound. Our friend here is the one who really twisted her tail!"

Speaking to him, which he will express his gratitude in supporting Sorinne:

"Thanks for taking care of Sorinne, chum. I'm a fair card player and a decent drinking companion, but when it comes to the really heavy stuff…well, I'm about useful as sand in a water skin.
So, yeah. We all owe you one."

The Final RoundEdit

While searching for Brahgas, you will overhear a conversation between Brahgas and Dralcia Keleth in an alley. Brahgas insisted that he will win the final Tribute tournament which will cover off his debts owed. Dralcia will leave and give a final warning to him if he doesn't win:

Brahgas: "Look, I don't have the gold yet. But I'm close to winning. I've got a side bet that will cover everything I owe!"
Dralcia Keleth: "In debt to us and making even more bets you can't cover? Pathetic. You don't even know who you're up against."
Brhagas: "It doesn't matter. I'm going to win. I have to!"
Dralcia Keleth: "Optimism. The gambler's eternal foe. Don't even think about running when you fail, Brahgas. We will find you."

Speaking to him on the matter:

"You always catch me at my best, don't you? Look, this was just…just a little disagreement about a side bet. It's nothing. Or it soon will be.
With how well I've been playing, not even Razhamad could beat me! This tournament is in the bag."
There's a fair chance you won't win.
"Yeah? What? And who's going to beat me? Sorinne? You? Listen, you're a talented Tribute player, but I've been playing cards for years. I taught you how to play, remember?
Z'en's price, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to…. I just really need this gold."
Have you asked for help?
"Razhamad's already bailed me out twice. Sorinne poured out a month's wages to pay off a Sea Elf I owed. I can't keep hiding behind my friends. I have to settle this on my own.
If I pull off this one last bet, it'll settle my debts and then some!"
You need to be careful.
"It's a bit late for that, chum. I'm eyeball-deep in it now. Only way out of this is a glorious triumph…or, well, let's not think about that.
Come on. Let's head back to the gaming hall. Our opponents might already be there waiting for us."
I'm not going to hold back, Brahgas.
"That's the spirit! I've had it up to my acorns with all the pity. Poor, pathetic Brahgas! Sure, I've stumbled in the past, but this is my ticket to a clean slate!
Come on. Let's head back to the gaming hall and meet our soon-to-be-defeated foes!"

After that, he will head off back to the gaming hall to meet the final opponents.

Brahgas was not looking forward to the opponents he is going to face as he owes the Mournhold Chapter gold for past bets:

Sorinne Gaerard: "Surprised to see you out here, Razhamad. And with an empty cup no less!"
Master Razhamad: "Ha! It is the final round! What kind of game-baron would I be if I did not cheer the chapter on? Ah, it looks like your opponents are here."
Teliv Fels: "Honor to you, Razhamad. I, Teliv Fels, champion of the Mournhold Chapter, have come to extend the final tournament challenge."
Brahgas: "Damn…. It's them. I knew it."
Teliv Fels: "Oh, I thought you'd be happy to see us, my dear Brahgas. You needn't take this so seriously. It is just a game. Right?"

Speaking to him before Teliv:

"The Mournhold Chapter. Z'en's price, I was worried this would happen. I don't mean to rattle you, but these bug-lovers almost never lose.
But this time is different. This time, I'm going to win!"

After speaking to Teliv, Brahgas will grow tired of Teliv's threats:

Teliv Fels: "Now, b'vek, I wish you all fair hands and good fortune in this final tournament. Especially you, Brahgas."
Brahgas: "Eat moss, Teliv."
Master Razhamad: "Brahgas! A word."

Speaking to him before checking the tournament listing, he will be confident that he will win:

"Don't worry about me, chum. I've got this completely under control!"
Teliv seems pretty confident that he's going to win.
"Yeah. And that overconfidence is going to be what puts him in the losers' circle.
I'm going to win. Have you seen how well I've been playing? I'm on the roll of the era. I'm going to win, and all my problems? Gone. Poof. Like the smoke on the wind."
And if you don't?
"That's not going to happen!
Just…just worry about yourself, all right?"

You will find out after beating Teliv's associates, Brahgas will be your next opponent to face before Teliv. You will have to win the match in order to save Brahgas from playing off against Teliv. He will be waiting upstairs for your arrival:

Brahgas: "What, Teliv? Come to take a peek at the future title-holder's strategy?"
Teliv Fels: "Someone in your precarious position might do well to make fewer boasts, Brahgas."

You will speak to Brahgas to begin your match in order to try to prevent him from facing Teliv:

"Ha! I knew it! I knew you'd be the one. Teliv's little brown-nosers never had a chance against someone at your level. Er, no offense, Sorinne.
Honestly, though, I'm glad it's you. Two of Gonfalon Bay's greatest players here in Razhamad's house!"
You aren't worried I'll win?
"Worried? Chum, I've been worried all my life. Running from gangsters, hiding in fish barrels, scraping for loose coins on filthy tavern floors. I'm done with that. All of it.
It's win or die now. No tricks. No excuses. Just us and the cards."
And what if you don't? Then what?
"Then…I face the consequences. Come what may.
I wouldn't worry about it, though. I'm going to win this match, friend. I've come too far. Now, enough talk."
Yes. Let's play.

After defeating him, Brahgas agrees to go with Teliv as his prisoner for the time being until you beat Teliv at Tribute:

Brahgas: "I…lost."
Teliv Fels: "And with that, your sad, redemptive fantasy meets its end. Do not try to run, Brahgas."
Sorinne Gaerard: "Wait! You and Razhamad had a deal!"
Teliv Fels: "Yes. A deal that remains unresolved. Until it's settled, Brahgas belongs to me."
Brahgas: "Sorinne, no! I'll go with him. A deal…a deal's a deal."

When you reached Mournhold, you will find Brahgas slightly injured as he awaits to see what is his fate should you win or lose the match with Teliv. He is shocked that Razhamad has betted the gaming hall to try to save his life:

Master Razhamad: "Teliv, I warn you. If you hurt Brahgas, you will regret it."
Teliv Fels: "Brahgas belongs to me, Razhamad. You have more pressing concerns when it comes to property, I think. Your precious gaming hall, for instance."
Teliv Fels: "Of course, your prodigy here still has a chance to reverse your fortunes!"
Brahgas: "Razhamad…you bet the hall? Y'ffre's viney arse, what were you thinking?"
Dralcia Keleth: "Peace, Brahgas. Or shall I remind you of the penalty for speaking out of turn?"

Speaking to Brahgas before speaking to Razhamad:

"I'm so sorry Razhamad put this on you, chum. I'm so…I'm so sorry about everything.
I deserve this, but Razhamad and the chapter don't. Beat this bug-lover for them, not for me."
I plan on it.
"See? That there's the swagger I saw during our first match. You've got this well in hand.
Keep that confidence and don't hold back. Use everything you've learned and beat this bastard."

Before you challenge Teliv:

"Take this bastard down, chum. I believe in you!"

Brahgas gets to be released once Teliv is beaten and leaves with Razhamad and Sorinne to celebrate your victory:

Teliv Fels: "You…beat me."
Sorinne Gaerard: "Ha! Go kiss a kwama's arse, Teliv! Our new champion beat you fair and square!"
Master Razhamad: "As per our agreement, Gonfalon Bay now hosts the newest Tribute champion. Release Brahgas. Now."
Teliv Fels: "Razhamad…if you read the contract, I think you'll find—"
Master Razhamad: "The contract is final. If you want to dispute it, our newest Tribute champion has a skill set beyond simple card games. I am sure they'd be happy to put it on display if you try anything."
Teliv Fels: "Brahgas…you may go."
Brahgas: "Like I need your permission!"
Master Razhamad: "Come, friends. We should return to Gonfalon Bay. Revels await!"

He will be back at the gaming hall and will join in the toast to celebrate your victory:

Sorinne Gaerard: "Three cheers for our very own Tribute Champion! Three cheers, I say!"
Gelekh: "The hero of Gonfalon Chapter! Cheers!"
Brahgas: "Aye! Cheers to the best of us!"
Kishka the Broker: "Ziss'vo! Would you all quiet down? Kishka has work to do, yes? But yes, cheers to you, walker."

You check up on him to see how he is doing right now. Razhamad has suspended his Roister's Club membership as a punishment for the trouble that he put the Chapter through, but he thinks this is fair:

"My friend, it has been a genuine pleasure. Except for that whole almost being sold into slavery bit.
I suppose it does add a layer of suspense to the tale, though. All the best stories include some fool up to his ear-tips in trouble, right?"
How are you holding up?
"Well, the welts and bruises will take a few weeks to heal. Feels like I fell off a horse…as it was falling off a cliff.
But, a few bumps and scratches are the least of it. The real consequences hurt a lot worse."
What are you talking about?
"Razhamad revoked my chapter sponsorship and suspended my Roister's Club membership—we've barely spoken since we got back.
Looks like my days on the Tribute circuit are over. After what I put Razhamad through, I can hardly blame him."
How about the gambling? Will that stop too?
"You want me to say, "Oh yeah! Of course!" and all that, but the truth is, I just don't know. I've got a problem, chum. A big one. I want to stop. I need to stop, obviously. But I don't think I can do it alone.
I'll find the help I need. Promise."
I hope so.
"Ah, enough of all the mushy stuff. You should head upstairs and talk to Razhamad. He's got a reward for you. Go claim it, champ!
As for me? I'm going to have a bit more of this delicious medicine."

Speaking to him again:

"Go on and speak to Razhamad upstairs. This is your moment, chum. I'll not take away from it anymore than I already have.
We can always chat later."

After the quest, you can see how he is doing after he has lost his membership:

"Razhamad revoked my membership, but he hasn't thrown me out on my ear yet, thank goodness!
I told Gelekh I could help her out around the bar. Never heard her laugh so hard, but I think she's game. Brahgas doing hard, honest work. Who'd have thought?"
Have a moment to chat?
"For you, my friend? Of course! You saved my hide!
In fact you got any jobs that need doing? Need a horse groomed? Garden weeded? As long as it doesn't involve betting, I'm game! You would have to teach me about horses and gardens, though."
How are you holding up?
"Eh. Been better. Been worse, too. The important thing is that I'm free. Broke. Very broke, in fact. But free all the same!
Gelekh offered me room and board as long as I pitch in. Sweeping up. Washing the dishes, that sort of thing. It's been nice."
Do you think this could turn into a steady job?
"Stranger things have happened. My uncle used to dance naked through the grahts hunting shalks with a deer-antler. Now he sells pottery in Pellitine. Things change.
As much as I complain about it, I do love this city. So, yeah. It might just stick."
Is Gelekh making any changes since the Gonfalon Chapter's victory?
"Just between you and me? Not enough! I mean, don't get me wrong, Gelekh runs a tight ship, but the food here is just….There are opportunities for improvement, let's put it that way.
Come to think of it, I'm something of a chef myself…."
Really?
"Oh sure! My grandmother taught me all the family recipes. It's just been so long. I guess I just forgot about it.
Hey! I like this idea! I'll put together a new menu for the club. Ha! I can't wait to see Gelekh's face when I share the news!"
Has Teliv bothered you since you've returned? / Any recommendations for a Tribute Master to hone their skills?
"Not a peep. I don't usually stand for threats, but when Teliv learned about how you make your livelihood, well, I think that closed the book on his quarrels with me.
So, again, thanks for that."
Any chance he'll come back?
"We'll see him at competitions. Well, maybe you will. But I think he's smart enough to avoid another bet against the Gonfalon Chapter!"
Have you met any of the Roister's Club Founders?
"Founders? Really leaping into this master thing with both feet, eh?
Can't say for sure, but I think I might have met one a few months back--up in Rivenspire. She was an Orc, but a real spooky sort. Gray skin. Red eyes. See a lot of that out there."
And you think she was a Tribute player?
"I know she was!
We met on the road, late at night. I thought she meant to eat me at first, but then I noticed a pair of Tribute decks peeking out of her bodice. Naturally, I challenged her to a match. Went about as well as you might expect."
She beat you?
"Like a three-legged mule! She gave me the worst thrashing of my life.
When we parted company, she mentioned something about meeting her friends at a castle nearby. Can't remember the name ... I think it had a bird in it? Sorry, that's all I've got."

Tales of Tribute Founders CluesEdit

Each of the Founders has gone into seclusion, so they must be tracked down from some hint or rumor that can be gotten after The Final Round has been completed. For Murzaga, it's from Brahgas.

Tales of Tribute Tutorial DialogueEdit

"Ha! You're making me nervous standing around like that. Come on, have a seat. Let's get started!"
Let's play.
"Right. The essence of the game is to buy cards to add to your play deck. Each of us will use our play deck to score prestige, until one of us gets enough prestige to win."
"Lots of cards, yeah? The ones on your side of the table are yours. The ones on my side are mine. The cards in the middle are what we call "the tavern." We each claim cards from the tavern to improve our play decks and earn enough prestige to win."
"You'll take the first turn. Let's both draw our starting hand."
"Each of your cards have a coin value. See? You can use their coin value to buy cards into your play deck from the tavern, the center of the table."
"Try to keep track of the value of the cards in your hand. Each card has a cost, a suit, and an effect."
"If I were you … well, this card here seems like the right one for you to buy with the coin that you have. So, claim it."

A few important notes for beginners:

  • There are five "Gold" cards in your hand. There is an "auto-play" option that can play those automatically, converting them to "coin" that you can use to purchase cards from the Tavern.
  • If "auto-play" is not on, click on the "Gold" cards to convert them to "coins" that you can spend.
  • To change the "auto-play" option on PC, tap the "Escape" key once. This will show a checkbox with the auto-play option. Set the option on or off as you like, then "Cancel" "Forfeit Game" to return to the game.

The amount of "Coin" you have available is shown in the gold circle just below the Tavern. When you have three or more, the card that Brahgas is forcing you to play will glow even brighter. You have no other options. Buy the card.

After you buy the Reinforcements card, the Portcullis card in the middle of the Tavern will glow.

"When you buy a card, you subtract its cost from your coin total and you get the card. Then, a new card replaces that card in the tavern. You still have enough coin to buy another card, so let's do that."
"Now, you can't play a card you bought right away. When you buy a card, it goes into a cooldown pile here, see? You can see at a glance what card suits are in your cooldown pile."
"It looks like you don't have enough coin to buy any other cards, and there's nothing else you can do at the moment. When that happens, you signal that your turn is over."

Click on the hourglass at the far right to end your turn.

"Any resources you have at the end of your turn will be cleared once your turn is over. Except Prestige, that is."
"Once your turn ends, you discard your cards and draw five new ones. You can start to plan your next turn while I take mine."
"That said, you should always keep an eye on what your opponent is up to on their turn. They might buy a card or take an action that will force you to revise your plans."
"So now, it's my turn. I'll control the table until I signal the end of my turn. See if you can figure out my strategy based on my actions."
"Well, well! The cards you drew gave you both gold and power. Power has two uses—the first is combat. But it also turns into Prestige at the end of your turn. Remember, earning Prestige is how you win!"

"Power used for combat" is mentioned here but not explained at all. Also, combat being its "first use" is debatable. Prestige is very important! Agent cards have "Health". Power can be used to reduce their health by clicking directly on the opponent's agent card. When health is reduced to zero, the agent goes to your opponent's cooldown. If it's a "Contract Agent," it goes away for the rest of the game instead.

"Remember when I told you that your currencies get cleared when you end your turn? Well, Power doesn't carry over between turns. But, when you do signal the end of your turn, any Power you have left over turns into Prestige. Good to know, eh?"
"See these little fellows? They're our Patrons. Each deck comes with its own Patron, and they play an important role in how the deck works."
"See, each Patron has something they want—a price, let's call it. They also have something to offer—a reward. Pay a Patron's price, and you'll get their reward. You have to pay the price all at once, and you usually get the reward immediately."
"Try paying one of these Patrons. Whichever one you choose to pay will offer you a boon. Just keep in mind, you're only allowed to pay one Patron per turn. They can get a little jealous!"

Use the Duke of Crows Patron. It converts all of your coin (minus one) to power. Note that this is not usually a good strategy at the beginning of a game, when you have only a small amount of coin, because as long as you have the favor of the Duke of Crows, you can't get any benefit from it again. (Unlike most other Patrons.)

"The Patron you just paid—notice anything different about them? They favor you, now. All Patrons start in a neutral bent, and then show favor to whoever pays them first."
"Of course, you can pay a Patron that favors your opponent. If you do, that Patron will become neutral. Pay them again on a later turn, and then they'll favor you!"
"And here's a tip: if you ever can get all Patrons on the table to favor you, you'll win the game—even if you have less Prestige than your opponent! Just one more thing to keep an eye on."
"All right, you need to draw new cards, but your deck is empty. Now, we shuffle your cooldown pile, and that becomes your new draw pile. You might draw cards you bought last turn, as well as those you started with."

End your turn, and your cooldown pile will shuffle itself to make a new draw pile.

"Your cooldown pile is empty. That means all the cards you started with, or bought during play, are now in your draw pile."
"Right, it's my turn again. I'm going to draw some Coin, use it to buy a card, and draw some Power from my play deck, which will become Prestige when my turn ends. Just like your turn! Only, uh … more experienced."

Combos trigger regardless of the order you play the cards. So if you play a Duke of Crows card that says, "Combo 2: Gain one power", then play a second Duke of Crows card, you suddenly get one more power because the combo got triggered. Combos show on the left side of the screen, when you trigger them.

"Those cards you drew can trigger a combo. See how they have extra effects if you draw another card that matches their suit? Luckily, you bought cards with the suit you need to trigger these combos."
"Some of the most powerful effects on cards come from combos—and a card will tell you how much of each suit you need to activate its combo effect. Great players always try to trigger combos, so keep track of those suits!"
"We're closing in on the end! I can tell by keeping track of the Prestige we've earned. For this practice match, we're keeping the total small. But in a real game, you'll need more Prestige to win."
"Ha! A grand victory! Well, maybe a little too grand …. Go talk to Master Razhamad and tell him you bested me. Just don't get cocky! Next time won't be so easy."

If you talk to him after the game, he'll say:

"This is just the beginning! There are more decks to acquire and more—slightly less handsome—players to defeat!
Now, I know our lesson went quickly. So, if you're confused on any details, check out the handbook there on the bar!"

Houseguest DialogueEdit

"According to old Razhamad, it takes nine shuffles to make sure a deck's fully sorted and ready for play. Seems like kind of a lot to me. I figure three or four should do it.
Less time shuffling leaves more time for complaining about bad draws!"
"Been trying to think of an alternate means to earn income. I finally think I've got something. You ready? Street performer! Oh, yes!
Figure I'll start small—like, a living statue. I already stand around all day. Why not get paid for it?"
"Can I give you a bit of friendly advice before you get too involved with the cards? You have a tell. It's subtle, but I can see it. The trick is to always imagine your opponent as the most boring person alive.
Like, you know, the opposite of me."
"Did you know that Dragons invented Tamriel's very first card game? It's true! They called it … well, I don't know what they called it, but they used big slabs of shale as cards.
I'm not making this up! Maybe Razhamad was, but I'm not!"
"Do yourself a favor—never bet on horse races. Or guar, or nixhounds, or giant spiders. Really any sport where the participants can run faster than you. Torchbugs are all right, though.
Why? If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't know."
"Don't tell anyone, but you know what I discovered recently that I just absolutely adore? Salad!
I couldn't believe it. I mean, it's just a bowl of leaves, right? I feel like a goat or a deer or something eating them. But, they're so darn tasty!"
"Ever been to Gonfalon Bay? It's fine, but I'd like it better if there was a decent mug of rotmeth to be had in the city. I mean, what's the problem? It's not like it requires a royal vineyard. Just squeeze some rats over a bucket and you're all set!"
"Found any Tribute cards out there? I thought I found one in my boot the other day. Turns out it was just some barrister's calling card. Always a good thing to have on hand, I guess.
For, you know … legal emergencies."
"Hey there, chum. This is quite a change from the Gonfalon Bay Gaming Hall, eh? Less gold changing hands, at any rate.
Sorry, I can't seem to ever start a conversation and not have to lead to Tribute. A fatal flaw, I suppose."
"How's everyone's favorite Tales of Tribute champion doing? You've got that golden glow about you.
My glow? Still purple and mottled green, thanks for asking. I'm not complaining, though. Better to be bruised and free than bruised and indentured!"
"I bet the Solitude Chapter of the Roisters Club wishes it could get its mitts on a player like you. Nobody likes playing there, though. Ever tried shuffling cards during a Skyrim freeze? It's no picnic in the park!"
"I heard the Roisters Club is always hard at work on new decks of cards! The bookmakers are taking bets on what the next theme will be. I put ten gold on Vvardvarks.
Long odds, I know. But the longer the odds, the greater the payout!"
"Legends abound about decks of Tribute cards stashed in secret places in the wilderness. I'd go look myself, but secret places tend to be high up or full of dangerous creatures. Have I mentioned that I'm scared of heights?
Eh, probably just a story."
"Nice place this, huh chum? So, where do they keep the Tribute cards? I just like to examine other people's collections. Professional curiosity, you understand."
"So glad I got the invite for this place. I needed a change of scenery. Less distractions here … and fewer debt collectors.
On a related note, if anyone comes around waving receipts and old ledgers, you haven't seen me."
"Sounds like after that fracas on All Flags Islet, the peace talks can finally begin! Fingers crossed, eh?
You know if it works out, they'll probably build a statue of you next to Bendu's—after they fix it. Shame about the earthquake and all."
"Thanks again for taking care of Sorinne. If we'd lost her … gods. It would be like getting our hearts cut out. And not carefully extracted after we're dead. I'm taking about really getting in there. Like, with a flint knife and a soup spoon."
"There's my second favorite cardsharp! You're really going to put the Gonfalon Chapter on the map. I've got a feeling about you, and my feelings are—strike that.
My feelings are routinely wrong. It's why I shouldn't gamble!"
"Tribute is all well and good, but clearly, adventuring is the smart play—financially, I mean. Just look at this place! Maybe I should give it a go. I could probably take out a Goblin. Maybe.
Gods, Goblins bite, don't they? Never mind."
"Want to hear something weird? Just the other night I had a dream that I was the patron of a Tribute deck! Only problem, the theme of the deck was financial ruin.
Don't need to visit a soothsayer to figure that one out."
"Want to work your way up the Tribute rankings? Just don't forget your old pal Brahgas when you get to the top!
It can get lonely up there. Or so I hear. My relationship with the top is more, you know … conceptual."
"Word of advice—never take a Black Marsh Argonian for granted when it comes to cards. I can't tell you how many people fall for the whole, I'm-a-simple-lizard-lost-in-the-big-city routine."
"You know, cards are great, but my true passion is dice. It's primordial, understand? Throwing bones, reading little scrawls on the faces. Makes you feel a bit like a mystic.
Or a cultist. One or the other."
"You really beat the stuffing out of Varnauld and his cronies! I bet that starchy prig will think twice before challenging the Gonfalon Chapter again! Let's hope he doesn't wait too long, though. I'd love to watch you thump him one more time!"
"You really showed those Ascendant Order fools what for! Nice going, chum!
You know, we'd be better off if everyone decided to settle their differences with a game of Tribute. Less blood that way. Well, a little less, anyway."
"Z'en's price, just look at this place! How do anyone afford it? I mean, even for a fair hand at cards like me, this is ridiculous!"
