Detailed WalkthroughEdit

While exploring the Cave of Broken Sails you will come across a friendly ghost named Decius. Talk to him to start the quest. He will ask if you're amongst the living, worrying he's talking to a corpse again. Glad you're alive, he will continue to tell you he's bound by a necromantic ritual of none other than himself. He will tell you he was hired by three Imperial mages to turn condemned prisoners into an undead force of guardians, who betrayed him causing him to get caught in it himself. He will tell you he needs the skulls of the Imperial mages, as they've accidentally became imbued foci due to their interference.

Get the three skulls and return to Decius, and tell him you've got the skulls. After realizing he can't hold the skulls because he's a ghost, he will tell you to do the ritual indeed. Across Decius is a hidden leveler, although only an open casket can be seen. Activate it to enter the Preservation Room, and return the skulls to the ghosts of their owners. Talk again to Decius, who will be happy to be free, to complete the quest.

  • During the concurrent quest in the area, you will get a monkey that can disable the traps for you. Alternatively, after finishing that quest the traps will be disabled permanently.
  • The objective description during the disrupting the ritual objective describes a Shrine to Vaermina that doesn't exist or isn't mentioned by anyone during the quest.

* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
