Quick WalkthroughEdit
- Talk to Jomund Snowmead.
- Locate the ore sample and research notes.
- Report to Jomund.
- Collect more samples of the ore.
- Find Jomund outside the mine.
Detailed WalkthroughEdit
Jomund continues this quest directly from the previous. He tells you that the miners found a mysterious ore deep within the mine, but the arrival of the Stormfists interrupted them.
- "Magister Osanne. She searches the deeper chambers.
We broke into an ice cave and found an ore we had never seen. It seems to have magical properties. Before we could determine anything else, these thugs arrived." - Does Magister Osanne know about the mystery metal?
- "We hid the sample and our research notes, but I think the magister is suspicious. She's looking for something back there.
I'd like you to retrieve the research notes and the ore sample." - I can do that.
- "We were in a rush, so we hid our notes in an urn on the scaffolding in the next chamber. We left an ore sample in there, too. But there's a chance Osanne found it.
You could disguise yourself and grab the notes." - Where would I get one of the Stormfist uniforms?
- "Crates of uniforms are scattered throughout the mine. There's a crate right there.
Just be careful. They don't notice you if walk around like you own the place, but Osanne's guards might be more alert than the average Stormfist thug."
Collect a Stormfist Disguise from a crate nearby and equip it. The Stormfists you encounter will be non-hostile, with the exception of the Stormfist Sentries, Magister Osanne, and her assistant. Continue on through the mine until you find them, and kill her. Collect the Mysterious Ore from a wheelbarrow in the corner near Osanne, and Jomund's Research Notes from an urn on the upper level. Once you're done, return to Jomund, who is now waiting for you behind the door at the southern exit to the room on the upper level.
- "Over here, friend. How did you fare?"
- I recovered the ore sample and the notes.
- "That's good news. While you were doing that, my miners drove off most of the Orcthane's troops. Milk-drinkers, every last one of them! We'll clean out the stragglers.
I have one more favor to ask of you." - What else do you need?
- "That chamber, the one where we found the mysterious metal … we left some of the ore in there. But the trolls, they seem attracted to the stuff. They won't let us near it.
Deal with the trolls and recover the rest of the ore. I'll meet you outside."
The next room is full of trolls who drop Mysterious Ore, but you can also find some out in the open that you can mine. You do not need to kill the trolls. Collect 4 samples of the ore and then leave the mine and return to the miners' lodge.
Jomund will thank you for delivering the ore, and will offer you the next quest in the chain.
NotesEdit
Although never named as such, the mysterious metal is apparently a reference to Stalhrim, a substance normally only found on the island of Solstheim. Both are icy ores which give off an aura of cold mist, and the models used in both Elder Scrolls Online and The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a dark gray metal with blue flecks throughout, despite previous games describing the substance as a form of "enchanted ice".
Quest StagesEdit

- Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
