The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard is the second spin-off game in The Elder Scrolls franchise, set on the island of Stros M'Kai in the Redguard homeland of Hammerfell. In the last days of the Second Era, in the wake of Prince A'tor's defeat and the Imperial occupation of Hammerfell, the mercenary Cyrus returns to his homeland in search of his missing sister Iszara who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
Unlike the games of the main Elder Scrolls series, Redguard is a third-person action-adventure with a predefined hero, a singular story focus, and gameplay involving platform and puzzle elements. Taking place on a single island and with a small number of characters, there was an emphasis on detail, such as in the 3D graphics and fully-voiced dialogue.
Redguard was released to the North American market in November 1998 and to the European market in March 1999. Both a software-only and 3dfx-accelerated version of the game can be installed from the disc, the latter for those with applicable Voodoo graphics cards and enabling various visual improvements (see Glide Differences).
Today, the standard version of Redguard is available digitally from Steam and the Microsoft Store (also being included with some Game Pass subscriptions), while the 3dfx version (using a Glide wrapper) is available from GOG.com. Downloaded versions of the game come packaged with the DOSBox emulator pre-configured.
