Atran Oran is a Dunmer, and the owner of Oran Plantation in Aanthirin. He is highly ranked within Great House Hlaalu, and sits on the council of that house. In his early years he made a name for himself as a pit fighter before ascending the ranks of the Hlaalu. As a now-wealthy slaveowner, he wears ebony boots and bracers, adamantium pauldrons, and carries a Daedric wakizashi, making him (by some measure) the most challenging combatant on the Oran Plantation. He is married to Valvane Oran, and father to Raris Oran and Drolora Oran. The latter has been causing him some trouble with her persistent love for a farmer in Indoril lands, and he has locked her away in the plantation's tower, presumably as punishment. He will even go so far as to send people to kidnap his daughter in the event that she escapes to Almas Thirr.
Personal problems aside, Atran is politically astute, and during the events of the Temple quest, A Warmonger's Counsel, notes that he has learned a thing or two from the Imperial occupation, in the best Hlaalu tradition.
"For the time being I will offer no explanations, no pleas, no apologies to House Indoril. In the west they play cards for gold, you see. They consider it the mark of a poor player to show one's cards to the others. So, I won't be showing mine just yet." - Atran Oran
Indeed, in some ways, the older Dunmer traditions puzzle him more than Imperial ones, and he maintains a fascination (and healthy rivalry) with the Indoril Ilvi, master of Roa Dyr, across the waters of the Thirr River.
"He's certainly a formidable adversary, this... Indoril Ilvi. Did you know that this is not his real name? He gave it up before being anointed the lord of Roa Dyr and now shares the name, title really, with his predecessors. It puzzles me, %PCName. His real name will be forever lost. All his accomplishments will not be his. What sort of man thinks so little of his own name, his own self, that he willingly gives it up? Perhaps I will, one day, find out." - Atran Oran
Atran is additionally a Master Trainer in the arts of Speechcraft, although he will only offer training to members of House Hlaalu who rank as House Cousin or higher.
