Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Rojanna tells you that an agent of the East Empire Company has suspiciously disappeared after investigating embezzlement of money by the Governor of Menaan's daughter, Raynil Vando. You are to meet up with another Legionnaire, Marcius Arius and investigate this disappearance. Make sure to speak with Kathellomar as this is a somewhat politically tense situation, since apparently it's technically out of your jurisdiction working out of Fort Ancylis. He says to bring the evidence to him and not arrest anyone, and he'll handle it from there.

Start by making your way to Menaan via boat to Bal Foyen and then Silt Strider from there. To the left of the stairs to the Silt Strider, on the ground, is Marcus Arius. He gives you some direction, in that he wants you to question the local nobles in the town:

  • Raynil Vando
  • Dathlyn Vando
  • Novor Dals
  • Nadras Arvel

It should be stated that during any quest but especially quests that require uncovering a mystery, you're going to want to get people's dispositions as high as possible before asking them about the matter you're there about.

Raynil Vando and Dathlyn VandoEdit

Vando Manor is to the immediate left on entering the city walls. On speaking with Dathlyn Vando, she directs you to speak with her daughter about Stulti, Raynil. Talking to Raynil about Stulti has her say: It's so sad how he left our fair town. He was such a delightful fellow. If you find out where he went, do let me know. On her desk is some suspicious papers, apparently she was practicing forging a signature...

Nadras ArvelEdit

Circling around Vando Manor to Nadras Arvel's house, you'll be greeted with an interior akin to a jail cell, and some cookies and flin on a nearby crate, which are poisoned. There is also a key in the bowl next to the door to the "cell" area of the home, but it just flashbangs you and doesn't work on the door. Lockpick the door to get in, and be careful to lockpick and disarm the bear traps around the house.

In a separate room upstairs, you can find out that Nadras Arvel was looking to brew a very strong poison. Also if you lockpick the small chest in the same room, you can find an Honorable Writ of Execution, which the Morag Tong uses to send their assassins against people they're contracted to kill. It says: Nadras Arvel The afore-mentioned personage has been marked for honorable execution in accordance to the lawful tradition and practice of the Morag Tong Guild. The Bearer of this non-disputable document has official sanctioned license to kill the afore-mentioned personage. Apparently he's expecting an assassin, judging by this, the cookies, and the traps in his house.

Speaking to him, he says: That Orc, Orzuk gro-Gum, is a shady character. Says he's a blacksmith, but he does hits for the Vandos when they want it. If you figure the Vandos wanted that Stulti fellow dead, you'd do well to search his home.

Novor DalsEdit

Walking around to the other side of the tiny town, to outside of Morio Stulti's home, Novor Dals is standing outside. If you ask him about Stulti, he says: Try looking in his personal effects. I'll look the other way if you bust his door open. It's no murder weapon, but you might be able to figure a motive. Or not. Who can say? You might also do well to seek out Darra, at her house by the silt strider. She has an eye for this sort of thing.

Breaking into Stulti's home does require an invisibility potion or Chameleon in order to not accrue a bounty. However, inside, you will find next to his bed a ledger showing where Raynil was diverting money to.

DarraEdit

Walking outside of the city and talking to Darra at the silt strider about Morio Stulti, she says this: Darra has seen something. She saw the Orc Orzuk gro-Gum dropping something heavy into the pond -- something person-sized -- just west over the wall, late at night. Perhaps the <player race> should go for a swim.

Going to look in the lake, you'll find Stulti's body. The description of his wounds reads: Stulti's corpse seems to have endured many grievous wounds. You recognize them as having been dealt by an axe.

Kathellomar's RouteEdit

Here, you can end the quest with Kathellomar's route. Just turn in all of the evidence after you've gathered it to Kathellomar. He says he will turn everything over to another Fort for them to investigate, and you receive no reward at the end of the quest besides knowing you followed the law to the letter. This ends the quest here. Otherwise...

Orzok gro-GumEdit

Finally, it's time to confront Orzok gro-Gum. In his shop, go ahead and walk behind the counter, open the door behind the counter, and walk down into his bedroom. There you will find his axe to take, and you'll note in your journal that it has damage on its blade that could only have come from striking bone. If you confront gro-Gum with this evidence, he will attempt to kill you. You cannot arrest Orzok gro-Gum, unfortunately.

The ArrestEdit

You can arrest Raynil, since you have her ledger showing proof she is embezzling funds. However, you can also return Raynil's Ledger for 500 gold. When you tell her you're going to arrest her, she yells for her guard in the other room to kill you. After you kill him, she agrees to come with you.

However, going and speaking with Marcius Arius, you can show him the body proof and the axe proof, and he'll say it's clear that Orzok gro-Gum killed Morio Stulti. However, it is impossible to arrest Orzok gro-Gum. Marcius takes Raynil from there, and if you didn't kill Orzok gro-Gum yet, do it now before heading back to Rojanna.

Rojanna's RouteEdit

It is optional to arrest a suspect here, but you can. After you bring a suspect back to Marcius Arius, you can bring back all the evidence to Rojanna and she will award you with Browbeater's Blade and a skill book, Words and Philosophy. She also says to bring the ledger to Mette Black-Briar in Old Ebonheart. She gives you 50 gold for turning it in.

NotesEdit

  • The reclusive Nadras Arvel is only talkative at a high (70+) disposition.
