Detailed WalkthroughEdit
The Narsis Guild of Mages contains a mysterious machine called the BALROG in its Genatorium. Speaking to Anatolius Datus here will see him ask you to help with it. Agree and he'll give you the Reactor Console Key. Activate the console in front of Anatolius, and turn the Oblivion Stream Conduit off and then on again. Speak to Anatolius and he'll ask you to do the same for the Daedron Field Generator. Do so and talk to Anatolius once done. He'll remark "Not great...not terrible", and then will ask that you raise the BALROG's rods. He'll also give you 3x Quality Restore Health potions in the expectation of a terrible industrial accident.
Do as he asks, and then enter the BALROG's room and activate the Creatia Reactor in the middle for a journal update that notes corrosion in the reactor's rods. Then (before the reactor explodes and kills Anatolius) use the console to lower the rods again. Now speak to Anatolius. He's unhappy to hear about the corrosion and will request that you bring him materials for repair - 2x Greater Soul Gems and eight pieces of Scrap Metal.
Any Dwemer ruin will have scrap metal, although there are no such ruins south of Lake Andaram. Greater Soul Gems can usually be bought from enchanters, such as from Nelmyne Athones in the city's Market Quarter.
Once you have the materials, return to Anatolius with them to complete the quest.
NotesEdit
- In the raising rods step, Anatolius asks that you "turn off both secondary modules, then raise the BALROG's rods", however only raising the rods seems to be necessary.
