Detailed WalkthroughEdit
On completion of the Third Trial of The Path of the Incarnate, you may choose to find the Ashlander tribes scattered across Morrowind's mainland and ask for their recognition of you as the Nerevarine. One of those tribes resides within Roth Roryn at Obainat Camp. It can be found in the hills immediately southeast of Savrethi Distillery, a greef-maker just south of the large House Hlaalu city of Andothren.
Once there, begin the quest by speaking to Massur-Dan in his yurt - he will direct you to the camp's wise woman, Musa Ashadallit. You can alternatively begin the quest by talking to Musa Ashadallit directly, or even by speaking to the camp's leader, Asha-tara Undunbael, about the Obainat Nerevarine. Regardless of how you begin, you'll be pointed to Musa in the wise woman's yurt. Speak to Musa about establish the Obainat. She is skeptical of your claim:
"I go against my conscience to talk of this to an outlander, no matter what you call yourself. But the Obainat, our poor excuse of a tribe, needs all the help it can get. Once upon a time, Nerevar brought all the tribes together. If you should walk in his footsteps, outlander, you will help us bring our own tribe together. You need to find us ancestor of the Obainat, and help us choose an ashkhan of the Obainat."
The Obainat, it seems, are a mix of different lost tribes, with no ancestors to unite them.
Seeking AncestorsEdit
"Once, there was no Obainat. Instead, there were many other tribes, proud and ancient. Mine was among them. But we became lesser and lesser every year. Eventually, so few were left that we had to band and join the Obainat with the other lost tribes. Now we live a gloomy life, with no ancestors to call our own. You must find us spirits of the past and convince them to adopt us and guide us, so we can once more be proud. Our scout, Padus Addinibi, knows places where ancient mer were laid to rest. Go talk to him for directions. I will teach you a spell for summoning the spirits. It would be enough if you can find us two ancestors, but the more the better. Ask them also how they would choose an ashkhan. Return to me when you find us ancestors." - Musa Ashadallit
On finishing your talk with Musa, she should teach you the spell Call of the Lost Tribe (id="TR_m4_q_AG_summon"). Talk now to the scout, Padus Addinibi, who stands outside about ancestor of the Obainat. He will direct you to four potential spots where ancestors may be found - Dunusi, Malumed, Maatumassu, and Ravith Ancestral Tomb. Before you leave however, talk to him about the lost tribe topic. He will reveal that he was once of another tribe - the Damanu. This information will come in handy in Malumed.
Of the below four locations, you only need to convince two spirits to become ancestors of the Obainat, but four are possible.
DunusiEdit
At the end of the road running west from Savrethi Plantation is the small town of Menaan. The entrance to Dunusi is very close to its silt strider platform, being just around the corner from the strider's rear end. Once inside, use the spell Call of the Lost Tribe that you have been taught by Musa, and then seek out the summoned ghost at the bottom of the large chamber in the west of the cavern. This is Tissamsi, a former healer of a tribe that once lived on the coast of the Inner Sea. She will need no convincing to become an ancestor of the Obainat.
MalumedEdit
The entrance to this cave lies to the north of Obainat Camp, at the bottom of the hill and just south of the road that leads westward to Savrethi Distillery. Find the chamber with exposed silver ore in the northwest, and use the Call of the Lost Tribe spell. Yanirab Odissara will manifest. She was an Ashkhan of the Damanu who ordered her tribe to accommodate the incoming Hlaalu, who then subsequently lost the tribal lands to that house. If you have spoken to Padus about the lost tribe, you may recognize the name as his former group. If not, you'll need to do this before speaking to Yanirab again, as she will refuse to be an ancestor of the Obainat unless she hears that Padus has survived.
MaatumassuEdit
Maatumassu can be found to the southwest of Savrethi Distillery. More specifically, go to Alver Farmhouse on the distillery's western side, and look for a path leading southwards into the hills. The entrance to Maatumassu will be on your right as you travel up this path. Use the Call of the Lost Tribe spell once inside, and find the summoned ancestor-to-be in the chamber with the hostile High Elf and the crystal. Kasharapli Shamidas was a hunter of the Adairenat tribe who died in a Hlaalu raid. It will agree to become an ancestor of the Obainat only if a member of that tribe comes before him to swear for revenge against the Hlaalu.
Return to the Obainat Camp to find somebody willing to swear such an oath. Ulannasun will have some unique dialogue, having once been a member of the Adairenat tribe - but it is Ulibabi Selitbael in Massur-Dan's Yurt who will ultimately commit to making the oath. Speak to her about swear for revenge, and then return to the ghost, Kasharapli. It will pronounce itself satisfied.
Ravith Ancestral TombEdit
The tomb is most easily reached by following the road that runs east from Savrethi Distillery into Aanthirin. On crossing onto the banks of the great Thirr River, you will see Mundrethi Plantation to your left. The entrance to Ravith Ancestral Tomb is on the island to the southeast of this location. Use Call of the Lost Tribe to find the ghost of Llevana Ravith on the ashpit in the main chamber. She was a Hlaalu retainer who attempted to become a member of the Damanu Tribe, but died before she was accepted. Wary of another rejection, she will ask that the Obainat prove their good will before she will agree to become their ancestor.
Return to Obainat Camp. A number of the Ashlanders will be reluctant to have a Hlaalu as an ancestor, but speak to Musa Ashadallit about prove their good will and she will refer you to Asha-tara Undunbael, who can supply you with a tribal heirloom (the Heirloom of the Lost Tribe) to take back to Llevana Ravith.
Ancestors Reporting InEdit
Once at least two spirits have agreed to become ancestors of the Obainat, speak to Musa Ashadallit again. She will have a slight (+10) Disposition increase if you recruited all four, and will be easier to convince in the vote for Ashkhan, but there is otherwise no change to the reward. Musa will ask you to move onto the next task - electing a new ashkhan.
Electing an AshkhanEdit
"We need an ashkhan to be a proper tribe. Our current leader, Asha-tara Undunbael, lead us through the hardships when forming the tribe, but is now gradually losing the majority's favor. Also, I fear that she, being a woman, is not a good fit for the role of an ashkhan. You must help us find the true ashkhan of the Obainat, and persuade everyone that your choice is correct. It is no secret that there are two primary contenders. The outspoken Massur-Dan is the favorite of many, though some find his aggressive ways a bit too extreme. Padus Addinibi is our scout. He has no experience as a leader but is liked for his extensive knowledge and temperate manners. Asha-tara is now ill-regarded, but no one can deny her contributions toward founding the camp, and a few believe that her cautious approach toward the Hlaalu is the wise move." - Musa Ashadallit
Speaking to Musa Ashadallit about ashkhan of the Obainat will invite you to choose a candidate to support. There are three available: the scout Padus Addinibi, the current leader and believed Hlaalu-appeaser, Asha-tara Undunbael, or the hardline anti-Hlaalu, Massur-Dan. You don't need to choose immediately, and your choice is not the end of the matter - the tribe will vote, and the majority vote will decide the ashkhan. So you'll need to canvas for your chosen candidate.
Supporting Asha-tara UndunbaelEdit
Be warned that this is by far the longest path and requires obtaining 4 ancestors.
Inform Musa of your intention to support Asha-tara - a choice she "does not approve of". You'll then need to speak to other members of the camp, and with Speechcraft of 20+ (for some, 15+) can convince most of them to back Asha-tara. Asha-tara herself will need convincing too - her chosen candidate is Padus.
You'll also need to convince Musa herself to lend her support. When asked, she'll note that Asha-tara reminds her too much of the gulakhan of her lost tribe, the Ishanuran, who have exiled her. You'll need to travel to Ishanuran Camp in the Armun Ashlands (it lies a bit to the west of the town of Arvud) and speak to Asani in the Ashkhan's Yurt. Asani will note that the Ashkhan who banished Musa died some years ago, but forgave her before his demise. She will give you the Gulakhan's Bow to pass onto Musa. Return to the Obainat wisewoman and give her this bow by speaking to her about her lost tribe. She will agree to support Asha-tara.
You should ultimately end up with all but three members of the Obainat supporting Asha-tara as Ashkhan. These members are Massur-Dan, Hibdun and Ulibabi. Your journal should update once this is the case, directing you to speak to the wise woman, Musa Ashadallit once more. She'll note that she thought this would be the case, and tell you to leave the tent. Do so. Massur-Dan will greet you outside, with a challenge to combat:
"Outlander! I name you enemy of the Obainat tribe. I name you False Incarnate! You claim the mantle of warleader, and yet you sow division rather than unity! Ignorant of our ways, you twist the minds of my people and fool them into thinking that Asha-tara can guide us through the trials ahead. She is weak -- you are weak! It is proven by your craven scheming, and will be proven again when I leave you in the dirt. Come, liar. I challenge you. Meet me in battle, and die!"
You will need to kill him. Once you have, return to Musa Ashadallit to have Asha-tara proclaimed Ashkhan, and yourself proclaimed the Nerevarine.
Supporting Massur-DanEdit
This is the only choice that can be accomplished without a Speechcraft skill higher than 20.
Declare to Musa your support for Massur-Dan. She'll tell you to ensure that everybody in the camp agrees. The current holdouts against Massur-Dan's election are Asha-tara Undunbael, Nirara, Padus Addinibi. You'll also need to seek Musa's support herself. All these individuals will provide their support without any skill checks being necessary, although some will be more comfortable with it if you recruited an ancestor ghost from their former tribe. Once you've spoken to everybody, your journal will update. Talk to Musa to be declared Nerevarine and to complete the quest.
Supporting Padus AddinibiEdit
If you support Padus, tell Musa so. Then speak to her again about ashkhan of the Obainat. She'll agree with your choice only if you found four ancestor ghosts in the first part of the quest, or if you have 20+ Speechcraft. Most of the other camp members you'll need 15+ Speechcraft to convince. Zassar takes 20+ instead, unless you have three others already backing Padus, in which case he is also 15+.
Massur-Dan, understandably, is the main holdout. Speak to him after convincing the other Dark Elf in his yurt, Ulibabi Selitbael. You'll need 45+ Personality to get her to withdraw her support for Massur-Dan. After this, speak to Massur-Dan with 20+ Speechcraft and reveal this fact - he will waver and back down. You'll finally need to speak to the final holdout, Hibdun Senatmiran, and inform him of Massur-Dan's withdrawal from the race.
Once you have convinced everyone in the camp to support Padus, your journal will update. You'll need to speak to the wise woman, Musa Ashadallit, once more. She'll name Padus Addinibi the new ashkhan, and proclaim you Nerevarine, completing the quest.
