Detailed WalkthroughEdit

Three days after completion of Echoes of the Past, Muran Samarys will have new duties - specifically, he's desperate to find Garnas Mano. Garnas had promised to write on reaching the Armun Pass Outpost, but no such letter has arrived and Muran suspects some sort of misfortune. He asks that you go to the Armun Pass Outpost and ask after Muran.

Travel to the outpost. It's a long walk north-northwest of Ald Iuval, where the Othreleth Woods's northern edge meets the Armun Ashlands. Speaking to those there will reveal that nobody of Garnas' description has shown up, and you'll be pointed towards the road between the outpost and Othmura.

Walk this road (it's the one leading south from the outpost), and turn right at the first fork. At the second junction, you'll be able to see Garnas' body just off the road. Search it for a journal update, and a message describing Garnas' wounds, and tracks leading west from the corpse. Follow the main road rest. You'll come across Garnas Mano's Pack Guar - dead on the road outside of Tilvur Ancestral Tomb. Enter the tomb. The four members of the gang are right behind the first door. Defeat them, and then search the body of Kalnir Wicked-Tongue. He bears Salothas' Dagger and a Tattered Note. Take both and read the note for a journal update. It seems that Feldril Sathis commissioned this band to ambush Garnas and take the dagger he carried. Feldril references a priest as supplying the information on Garnas' route.

Return now to Ald Iuval and speak to Muran. You'll need to tell him of Garnas Mano's death. You'll also have the option of showing him the Tattered Note, or of withholding it.

Withholding the Tattered NoteEdit

If you choose not to tell Muran of the note, he will tell you to speak to Hleras Selaro to determine the fate of Salothas' Dagger - he does not want it in his temple. Hleras is in the entrance room. Talk to him about Salothas' Dagger. He'll give you the option of sending the dagger to Silgrad, to House Hlaalu, or of keeping it. Keeping it results in no further reward, while giving it away nets you 500 gold. Hleras disposition will increase by +5 if you choose to send the dagger to the Hlaalu, and said dagger will later appear on the person of Ivul Hleryn if you do so.

Sharing the Tattered NoteEdit

If you share the note with Muran, he will immediately recognize Hleras Selaro's role in the tragedy. Furious, he demands that you confront Hleras. Hleras is in the entrance hall. Speak to him about Garnas Mano's death. He'll confess and provide his reasoning - maintaining good relations with the Hlaalu helps secure the long-term position of the Ald Iuval temple. Return to Muran and let him know. He's having none of it, and instructs you to kill Hleras. You can refuse, and at the second refusal, Muran will back down - although unless you warn Hleras, he'll show up dead a day later in the Othreleth Woods.

You can also try to reason him out of the action by recalling past examples of you sparing people on his request (ie Davas Ramaran during Overseeing a House War or the bandits in Sword or Sermon) - although this will only work if you actually spared them. If you happen to be the Patriarch of the Tribunal Temple, which is indeed nice work if you can get it, you can also use that position to make Muran back down.

However, you may also agree to kill Hleras for Muran. In this case, speak to Hleras about the kill Hleras topic. He'll agree to meet you outside. Speak to him again in the Temple courtyard and either say you'll let him go, or kill him. Then return to Muran to report his death (whether that report is truth or not).

However you handle Muran's request, he'll now ask that you determine what happens to Salothas' Dagger. You can choose to keep it, or otherwise you can send it to Silgrad for a reward of 500 gold.

NotesEdit

  • Hleras' final location depends on your actions. Hleras can therefore show up dead in Othreleth Woods (if you refused to kill him and didn't warn him of Muran's murderous inclination), alive and in hiding in The Water's Shadow Tavern in Llothanis (if you lied about Hleras' death), or alive in Hlan Oek's Morning Sun Cornerclub (if Muran was dissuaded from seeking his death). If his part is never revealed, he remains at the temple. He disappears entirely if you twice refused to murder him, and then warned him of Muran's intent.

10Muran Samarys asked me to find Garnas Mano. It's been some time since Garnas left, but he still hasn't written to Muran, despite agreeing to do so. Muran suggests checking the Armun Pass Outpost, and questioning others if they haven't seen Garnas. I also need to ensure that Salothas' Dagger isn't lost.
15I was told in the Armun Pass Outpost that Garnas Mano hasn't been seen passing through there. They recommended that I investigate the road between the Armun Pass Outpost and Othmura to find Garnas Mano.
20I was able to find Garnas Mano's corpse on the road between Othmura and Armun Pass. Salothas' Dagger had been looted from him. Based on the state of the body, it's clear he was murdered. There are tracks leading westward from the location of the corpse.
25It turns out that a group of thugs hiding out in Tilvur Ancestral Tomb were responsible for Garnas Mano's death. They were in possession of Salothas' Dagger and a letter. The letter states that they were paid by a House Hlaalu member, Feldril Sathis, to find Garnas Mano and recover Salothas' Dagger. Apparently, House Hlaalu received information about Garnas' whereabouts from a member of the Temple.
30I informed Muran Samarys about Garnas Mano's death. He was devastated and chose not to involve himself further in the matter. I can decide what to do with Salothas' Dagger together with Hleras Selaro. All that matters to Muran is that it's not kept in the Ald Iuval Temple.
35I told Muran Samarys about the letter I obtained from the thugs responsible for Garnas Mano's death. He was furious with Hleras Selaro, whom he believes is the member of the Temple who tipped off the Hlaalu. Muran wants me to confront Hleras about it.
40I confronted Hleras Selaro about Garnas Mano's death and the letter. He admitted to secretly tipping off the Hlaalu about Garnas' whereabouts. He claims he did so to maintain good relations between the Temple and House Hlaalu, which he believes are essential for the Temple's future. He insists he didn't know Garnas would be killed and seems genuinely regretful.
50After Hleras Selaro's explanation, Muran Samarys became embittered over Hleras' role in Garnas Mano's death. He asked me to kill Hleras Selaro.
65Muran Samarys expelled Hleras Selaro from the Tribunal Temple and wants him to be executed for inciting a House War. I refused his plan to kill Hleras.
70Muran Samarys expelled Hleras Selaro from the Tribunal Temple and wants him to be executed for inciting a House War, which I agreed to. Muran has asked me to inform Hleras of his fate and kill Hleras outside the Temple building.
75I warned Hleras Selaro that Muran Samarys plans to kill him. Hleras thanked me and decided to flee, away from Ald Iuval.
80I killed Hleras Selaro. Muran Samarys thanked me for it.
85I lied to Muran Samarys, telling him that Hleras Selaro had been killed.
90Muran Samarys expelled Hleras Selaro from the Tribunal Temple and wants him to be executed for inciting a House War. I refused and managed to convince Muran not to kill Hleras. He was ashamed of his impulsiveness and thanked me for talking him out of it.
91Muran Samarys expelled Hleras Selaro from the Tribunal Temple and wants him to be executed for inciting a House War. I refused and used my authority as Patriarch to get Muran not to kill Hleras.
