Ald Velothi (Dark Elvish for "Old Velothi") was a small harbor settlement on the north coast of Vvardenfell, in the province of Morrowind. A dock has existed there for many years and is historically owned by House Redoran. It is likely named after Veloth the Pilgrim, the village's patron saint.[1] In the mid-Second Era, it was the site of the Ald Velothi Harbor House, a medium-sized private estate with a small dock, but in the late Third Era, it was a fishing village that contained an outpost.[2]
HistoryEdit
When Ald Velothi was built is unknown, but these docks have sat on the West Gash coast since as early as the Interregnum, between Ashalmawia to the east and Arkngthunch-Sturdumz to the southwest.[3] In the mid-Second Era, a medium-sized, walled estate was built above the Ald Velothi docks and sold by the Architects Guild.[2][4] By the Third Era, the estate was deconstructed. After the Armistice's ban over Vvardenfell was lifted in 3E 414, House Redoran moved into Ald'ruhn and quickly took control of northwest Vvardenfell, splitting it between its lords and developing settlements over it.[5][6]
A fishing village was built in Ald Velothi, with a Redoran-style outpost uphill from the harbor. Theldyn Virith was the ranking Redoran official, however, he was given no formal title and served as a de-facto hetman for the villagers.[1][7] The Arvels were a local family of Hlaalu Dunmer. They lived in Ald Velothi for years and were generously on good terms with House Redoran.[1] Several figures operated in the nearby ruins and wilderness, threatening Ald Velothi's peace, such as outcast Ashlanders kidnapping pilgrims on the road[8] and a daedric coven of the Fourth Corner in Ashalmawia led by the battlemage, Gordol.[1]
In 3E 427, Theldyn Virith employed a Redoran member to help the town. First, it was to kill a slaughterfish that plagued the Ald Velothi docks for a few years, Old Blue Fin. Then it was to secure the Ashimanu Eggmine on the Gnisis-Ald'ruhn caravan road, and to report on the Redoran's bid for Shishi, a Velothi tower contested with House Telvanni. Their last quest was to kill Gordol in Ashalmawia, ending his coven's threat over Ald Velothi.[1] In that same time, the Imperial Legion in Fort Darius sent a recruit to rescue Madura Seran, a layman of the Tribunal Temple from the outcast Ashlanders in the hills. The townsfolk were at ease after she was safely brought back to Ald Velothi.[8][9]
What became of Ald Velothi throughout the rest of the Third Era is unknown but in 4E 5, the Red Year as it is remembered, Red Mountain erupted and destroyed most of Vvardenfell. A relief effort was organized to restore settlements that were hit the hardest but whether Ald Velothi was rebuilt or abandoned is unknown.[10][11]
