Ashalmawia is a ruined daedric temple found on the seaside hills of Vvardenfell, in the province of Morrowind. Situated on the bleak wealds of the West Gash, it is an old temple dedicated to the Daedric Prince of Domination, Molag Bal, one of the Four Corners of the House of Troubles. The Sunken Vaults of the temple have been used by the Prince's countless worshippers, including the Order of the Black Worm to bring about his wrath and influence.[1]
HistoryEdit
In the midst of High King Wulfharth's reign in Skyrim, a representative from Ashalmawia traveled to the vast temple of Assurnabitashpi, in light of Mordrin Hanin's passing. On the ninth day of mourning, the cup of passage was mixed with a lethal concoction and passed to every guest that attended. The drink killed most of the attendees and provided Hanin with companions for his trip to the next world. It is unknown if the diplomat from Ashalmawia was among these victims.[2]
In 2E 582, the Planemeld had wreaked havoc throughout Tamriel and uprooted many different locations, however, the island of Vvardenfell remained largely untouched with the Tribunal's protection. Despite their best efforts, the Worm Cult managed to establish a conclave in the sunken vaults of Ashalmawia and it soon became infested with various daedric creatures.[1] In order to deal with the threat, the Temple Ordinators of Vivec City sent an Outlander to disrupt their wicked rituals. The outlander stopped several rituals, which summoned all sorts of enemies, such as a Harvester and a Watcher.[3]
At around the same time, Mistress Dratha sent an outlander to retrieve seven of the Stones of Cold Fire. One of them was located deep in Ashalmawia and it was guarded by the Dremora soldier, Zylara.[4] Numani-Rasi of the Urshilaku Tribe sent various warriors to recover historical artifacts from several daedric ruins, one of these sites was the temple, Ashalmawia.[5]
During the Blight outbreak in 3E 427, the temple of Ashalmawia was taken over by some cultists of Molag Bal. The coven of worshippers was led by the battlemage, Gordol, who was targeted by House Redoran for terrorizing the village-folk of nearby Ald Velothi. He was promptly dealt with by a House-Brother of the great house.[6] At around the same time, the Twin Lamps sent one of their own to rescue a runaway slave that hid in Ashalmawia, with several slavers on her tail. The slave was saved and was escorted out of Vvardenfell from a ferry in Ald Velothi.[7]
