Athyn Sarethi was a Dunmer noble from the late Third Era. By the fifth century, he was a member of the Great House Redoran's council and governed the South Gash of Vvardenfell.[1] Athyn is a warrior and has been referred as the Hope of the Redoran after an omen.[2][3]

Early LifeEdit
Athyn Sarethi was born sometime in the Third Era in the Sarethi family, whose ancestral tomb can be found on the northern peninsula of Sheogorad island, the largest island in the eponymous archipelago region.[4] His father was a councilor in House Redoran while his cousin was Andas Sarethi, a prodigy that was believed to have brought hope to House Redoran from an omen chanted by his mother. In his youth, Athyn was not ambitious but developed a grudge against Andas, who saw himself as his superior and abused him. Through a similar discontent with Andas, Athyn made friends with his cousin's enemies.[2]
Athyn was sent to Rihad to complete his education at Andas' insistence and trained under the Redguard warrior Shardie. Years later, Athyn returned to Morrowind after his father had passed and challenged Andas for his council seat. Athyn retreated to his castle where his friends give him counsel while Andas squandered his training, having sheer confidence in his victory.[2]
Shardie approached Athyn and offered her advice. All night, Shardie taught Athyn to fight with a club, practicing techniques from Abibon-Gora and Yokuda. The next morning, Athyn and Andas met in battle, and although Andas landed the first blow, he was easily killed by Athyn. Athyn Sarethi had then succeeded his father as a councilor of House Redoran and people later believed that the omen chanted by Andas' mother may have been about Athyn after all.[2]
Life as a councilorEdit
Over years, Athyn had made several friends, such as fellow councilors Arethan Mandas[5] and Miner Arobar, the latter of whom he had known since childhood,[6] and Neminda's father who was an Imperial legionnaire based in Castle Ebonheart.[7] When Vvardenfell was opened to the rest of the Empire by King Athyn Llethan in 3E 414,[8] Archmaster Bolvyn Venim brought the great house from certain defeat by moving the Redoran Council to Ald'ruhn.[9] A few years in, Athyn Sarethi had lived in the eponymous Sarethi Manor in the Manor District. He was married to Domesea Sarethi and had one known child, Varvur Sarethi.[10]
When Maar Gan was attacked by blighted monsters from across the Ghostfence in 3E 424, the Fighters Guild were quick to defeat them. Athyn Sarethi personally gifted the Imperial fighter, Percius Mercius with glass armor.[11] In 3E 427, Athyn Sarethi was approached by the Nerevarine, who hoped to get recognized by the Redoran Council as their Hortator. Athyn offered to sponsor them but only if they rescued his son, who was accused of killing his friend, from Venim Manor. After bringing him back, Athyn Sarethi gave his blessings to the Nerevarine and gave them pointers on convincing the rest of the council. After Bolvyn died in the Vivec City arena, he proclaimed the Nerevarine the Hortator and gifted them the Ring of the Hortator.[12][13]
At around the same time, members of House Redoran accepted multiple tasks from Athyn Sarethi. The councilor believed his life was in danger so the Redoran drillmaster, Neminda tasked a lawman with protecting him. The lawman found two Morag Tong agents and saved the councilor. After Varvur's rescue from Venim Manor, Councilor Athyn asked the lawman to learn the truth and absolve him of any wrongdoings.[14]
In neighboring Balmora, the Hlaalu noble, Ondres Nerano began to spread damning accusations against Archmaster Bolvyn Venim and Athyn tasked the lawman with silencing him.[15] With reason to believe that smugglers operated out of Shurinbaal near Gnaar Mok, Councilor Athyn sent the lawman to defeat the smuggler leaders.[16] When his daughter was kidnapped by Divayth Fyr, Sarethi's fellow councilor, Arethan Mandas went insane and took up residence in a cavern called Milk, where he would harass travelers on the Ald'ruhn-Caldera road. Councilor Athyn sent the lawman to deal with the situation, but whether Mandas was cured of his predicament or he was killed is unknown.[17]
