Fathis Aren's Tower, also known as the Temple of the Emperor Zero,[1] is a ruined fort along the Green Road south of Bravil, in the Nibenay Valley region of Cyrodiil.[2]
The tower possesses an extensive underground complex, connected to a grotto that extends deep under Niben Bay. Some parts of the grotto are flooded and provide access to the bottom of the bay. These flooded passages are home to slaughterfish, including the rare giant slaughterfish. The grotto extends all the way to Bravil, allowing access to the tower from a secret passage in Castle Bravil.[2]
HistoryEdit
Based on its name,[1] the tower seems to have originally been dedicated to the Cult of Emperor Zero, a popular cult in Nibenay dedicated to worship of Cuhlecain and founded at the end of the Second Era by Tiber Septim.[3]
By the late Third Era, the ruins of the temple had been converted into the private wizard's tower of Fathis Aren, the Court Wizard of Bravil and an Associate of the Mages Guild. A proficient conjurer, Aren converted the underground complex into his lair, guarded by Dremora and other bound Daedra. The tunnels were also inhabited by his fellow conjurers who were not associated with the Mages Guild.[2]
In 3E 433, the Gray Fox, Corvus Umbranox, used a crystal ball known as Savilla's Stone to divine the items needed to break into the Imperial Palace and steal an Elder Scroll. He learned that Fathis Aren had come into possession of the Arrow of Extrication, a key-shaped arrowhead. This arrow was needed to unlock a passage in the Hall of Epochs, an ancient Ayleid ruin that allowed access to the Palace via a secret route known as The Old Way. The Gray Fox tasked the Hero of Kvatch with recovering the arrow from Fathis Aren's Tower, which required breaking into Castle Bravil and traversing the underground passages. The arrowhead was successfully stolen; it is unknown if Aren survived the robbery.[4]
