Jarrin RootEdit

A harvested Jarrin Root

Jarrin Root is a rare plant unique to the island of Stros M'Kai.[1] It is extremely toxic, and even small amounts when consumed will result in death unless an antidote is administered in time. For this reason, it is highly prized for use as a poison. The plants' toxin kills by dissolving the stomach lining and then spreading from there.[2] Reports vary on the severity of the Jarrin Root, in some cases death happens almost instantaneously after consumption[3], while others report that death takes much longer to occur.[4] When dried, the root can be stored for a long time without it losing its potency.

JazbayEdit

A Jazbay plant

The Jazbay is a sprawling, low growing plant most commonly found in the volcanic tundra of Eastmarch. The plant produces grapes known for its flavor and acidity. In fact, the acidic content of the juices is ideal for growing nirnroot.[5] The grapes were once reserved only for emperors due to their exceptional flavor, and during the reign of the Septim Dynasty it was considered treason to harvest these grapes without the permission of the Elder Council or the Emperor. It is no longer illegal to pick the grapes, although harvesting them in large amounts is still frowned upon by the law. Apparently between the Third Era and the Fourth Era, the jazbay's taste had greatly diminished amidst the high demand it garnered during the time. While it improved the plant's survival, the flavor was lost in the process.[6] The jazbay is highly valued by mages and alchemists because mixing it with ordinary garlic enhances the consumer's magicka regeneration.

The work of fiction known as Warrior further adds to the story of this grape. According to the book, the volcanic tundra of Eastmarch is called Aalto, and if the jazbay grew anywhere else, it will not survive. The vineyards that grew them were privately owned and acquiring wine made from these grapes is rare and extremely expensive. The Emperor needed the permission of the Elder Council to drink it at least once a year.[7]

JuniperEdit

A Juniper tree (Skyrim)

Junipers are stocky, silvery trees across northern Tamriel and cultivated by native cultures for various uses, such as tea.[10] They grow white berries described as "glossy as pearls." These trees are commonplace in the Druadach Mountains, particularly in the Reach but they grow in hard-to-reach places like the region's sprawling pathways. Local Reachfolk that are brave enough to find them harvest its berries for several purposes,[11] like making a drink called juniper-draught[12] or Doe's Ire, the Reach's signature cheese made from goat's milk and flavored with juniper berries.[13]

In Skyrim, juniper grows best in the southwest region, but its sharp flavor is beloved across the province, and so the Nords use it in several recipes like the pastry Juniper Berry Crostata and the meat Juniper Lamb Chops dishes.[14]:10[15] Meaderies each have their own recipes that infuse fruits and spice into their brew,[16] like some locals in Helgen who mix mead with juniper berries.[17] In the early Fourth Era, a Colovian Highland style of ale with a hint of juniper became popular in Colovia.[18]:Part 2, Chapter 7

The Redguards of Hammerfell, such as the natives of the Alik'r Desert, use materials from juniper for more rituals. In the mummification process, warm juniper resin is used to coat the layers of linen wrappings around the corpse.[19] Dried juniper leaves are cultivated by the Ash'abah for medicine.[20][21]
