Guilbert Jemane is a Breton warrior living in Cheydinhal. He has an identical twin brother, Reynald, from whom he was separated at a very young age, and whom he believes to be dead. Fortunately, his brother is very much alive and living it up in Chorrol. You will help reunite the two brothers during the quest Separated at Birth, reclaim their childhood home during Legacy Lost and finally find out the truth about their father during Sins of the Father.
While Reynald drinks all day long in Chorrol, Guilbert lives a relaxed and more sober life as permanent resident at Newlands Lodge in Cheydinhal. He sleeps in the easternmost bedroom every night between midnight and 6am. After waking up he strolls lazily around the upstairs area until it is time for a two-hour breakfast in the taproom at 8am. He then heads upstairs again and spends the rest of the morning and all afternoon pacing around. At 8pm he finally leaves the Lodge for an evening walk near the local chapter of the Fighters Guild and Willow Bank. He returns to the Lodge at midnight and goes to bed.
He wears a blue and green outfit with a pair of doeskin shoes. He carries a spare pair of tan linens, a small amount of gold and wields a leveled warhammer that can be of up to ebony quality. It is always of the best available quality for his level.
DialogueEdit
When you first approach and greet him, he will say pleasantly:
- "How can I help you today, friend?"
- "Is there something I can do for you?"
He politely breaks off conversation with:
- "Good day to you."

Quest-Related EventsEdit
Separated at BirthEdit
When in Chorrol, you may overhear the local residents complain about a certain Reynald Jemane:
- "Reynald Jemane has a terrible memory. We've met many times, but when I saw him in Cheydinhal, he walked right past me like we were strangers."
- "I was in Cheydinhal last week, and I'm sure I saw Reynald Jemane. He acted like he didn't know me, though."
Orok gro-Ghoth will also share a similar story:
- Chorrol
- "Do you know Reynald Jemane, the fellow who lives on the west side of Chorrol? I saw him in Cheydinhal recently, and said 'Hi,' and he pretended he didn't know me. I was quite irritated, and haven't spoken to him since. But, I wonder, was he really trying to be a fool? Or was something wrong?"
If you ask people in town about Reynald, they will reaffirm:
- Reynald Jemane
- "Yes, it's quite odd. Reynald, who I've bumped into several times in Chorrol, acted like I was a complete stranger. Also, he seemed sober, which is a refreshing change. Usually Reynald is stumbling around Chorrol drunk as can be. Very odd, but then, it's really none of my business."
Speak to Reynald, and he will drunkly send you off on a mission to Cheydinhal to clear his name:
- "If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, I've NEVER been to Cheydinhal! I.... oh, hang on. You're someone else. Apologies, my good friend. I mistook you for someone else. Always being asked about it, I am. 'Didn't I see you in Cheydinhal?', they say. Well I'm sick of it. Sick and tired, tired and sick. And perhaps a little drunk. But nevermind. You look like the honest sort, so I've a job for you. You're going to travel to Cheydinhal, and find out what sort of imposter is trying to besmirch my good name. And you're going to tell him... *hic*... You're going to tell him I am quite capable of besmirching my good name on my own. He should cease and desist immediately. There's fifty gold pieces in it for you, friend... right then. Off you go."
Over in Cheydinhal, if you ask around town about Reynald you will be pointed in Guilbert's direction:
- Reynald Jemane
- "Reynald Jemane? No, don't know anyone by that name. There's a Guilbert Jemane in town however. Maybe he can help you. He's staying over at the Newlands Lodge, but you also might find him walking around town. Good luck."
If you now speak to Guilbert and mention his brother, he will be stunned:
- Reynald Jemane
- "He... he's alive? I was told that my mother and brother never survived! This is amazing! I'll need to go see him at once! You'll have to excuse me; I'd better leave right away. But, please -- come and see us in Chorrol. It would be wonderful for us both to be able to thank you for helping us find each other again."
Once you exit the conversation he will add:
- "This reunion will be the happiest day of my life."
will leave Cheydinhal right away, eager to meet his long-lost brother. He takes the Blue Road to Lake Rumare then follows the Red Ring Road until it meets with the Black Road which he will follow all the way to his destination. He will run for the entire trip and will take several detours along the way but his essential status means that he will always arrive safely in Chorrol. If you speak to him while he's on his journey, he will dismiss you with:
- "I can't stop to talk now. I've got to go meet my brother!"
Once he arrives in Chorrol, he will seek out Reynald immediately, before being reunited in a moving scene:
- Reynald: "What? Who ...? Damn, not this again. Wake up! Wake up!!"
- Guilbert: "You're not dreaming, Reynald. It's me, your brother. Guilbert."
- Reynald: "That can't be. I don't have a brother. I mean, I never knew my real family. Who did you say you were again?"
- Guilbert: "I am your twin brother. When we were very small, our farm was attacked by ogres. My ... our father and I escaped. We thought you and Mother had both been killed. If we had only known!"
- Reynald: "All I know is that travelling merchants found me in the wilderness by the body of my mother. I was raised by the monks at Weynon Priory."
- Guilbert: "My brother! It is wonderful to see you again. We will have much to talk about in the next days."
Approaching Guilbert now will have him exclaim:
- "I can't believe I've been reunited with my brother!"
If you speak to him, he will ask you for a further favour:
- "I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with Reynald. I never would have guessed he was still alive. We have much to discuss, but if you have time, I'd beg you stay a moment longer and hear about our home, Weatherleah."
If you leave conversation now, he will smile:
- "Fear not, our paths may cross again."
When approached again, he will again thank you:
- "If it wasn't for you, I never would have found Reynald. Thank you."
If you ask about his brother, he will clarify:
- Reynald Jemane
- "He's Reynald. I'm Guilbert."
After this Guilbert will start a new life, residing in his brothers' messy house in Chorrol. Guilbert will follow Reynald around all day long, which includes witnessing his daily drinking marathon at The Grey Mare between 8am and midnight and watch him in his sleep, never eating or sleeping himself.
The townsfolk can now be overheard saying to each other:
- "I saw Reynald Jemane's brother earlier. Can't believe they didn't even know about each other."
When asked about Reynald, they'll chuckle:
- "Mystery solved, eh? Reynald had a twin brother. Well, he had all of us fooled."
Legacy LostEdit
If you approach Guilbert again after the happy reunification, you can now ask him for more information about his ancestral home:
- Weatherleah
- "Weatherleah was our family's home for generations. Our parents fled it when ogres attacked; they became separated. My father carried me to safety. He later returned and believed Reynald and my mother had perished. Since ogres are cannibals, he didn't expect to find their bodies. Thankfully, however, it seems that my mother managed to carry Reynald to safety. While my mother didn't survive, Reynald did, and for that I'm grateful. But we both want more - we want our home back. We're not fighters; you appear to have more skill than either of us. Would you go to Weatherleah, and see if it's still inhabited by ogres?"
If you decline, he will be disappointed:
-
- No, I can't help you.
- "Are you sure? I don't know what we could offer you to change your mind, but I'm sure we could come up with something. Please reconsider."
Should you speak to him again about Wetherleah, he will be hopeful:
- Greeting?
- Weatherleah
- "Have you changed your mind? Will you help us reclaim our family home?"
- I will help you reclaim Weatherleah.
- "Thank you! Now, we're not quite sure where the estate is located. We'll offer up what we know, however. We believe it's somewhere south of Chorrol, but north [sic] of Fort Carmala. It may be difficult to find. Since no one's lived there for many years, it may be quite overgrown by now. If you find it, let us know. We'll be waiting anxiously."
When asked about Weatherleah again he will once more provide incorrect information:
- Weatherleah
- "I wish my father had given me a better description of its location, but for some reason all he told me was "South of Chorrol, north [sic] of Fort Carmala."
From now on, when approaching and greeting him, he will say:
- "Nothing is as important as a man's home. We must have ours back."
- "Have you found Weatherleah? Is it safe for us to travel there?"
- I haven't found it.
- "Please, keep looking. I know it's out there somewhere. You'll find it eventually."
Upon leaving conversation he will caution you:
- "Be careful. I don't know what dangers may lurk in the Great Forest."
After you have been given the right directions from Sabine Laul and discovered that the ogres still inhabit the farm, when you approach and greet him he will say:
- "Do I sense good news?"
- "Have you found Weatherleah? Is it safe for us to travel there?"
- I found it, but it's not safe.
- "You mean there are still ogres there? I hate to ask more of you, my friend, but you know that we're not warriors. Please let us know when it is safe to travel there. We're anxious to return."
When leaving conversation he will beseech you:
- "Please avenge my family's death... slay the ogres."
When approaching and greeting him now, he will say:
- "Is your weapon stained with the foul blood of the ogres?"
- "Is it safe for us to return to Weatherleah yet?"
- Weatherleah
- "We look forward to returning to our family's ancestral home at Weatherleah, once the ogres are dead."
After you have slain the ogres and report back, he will delighted:
- The ogres are gone. It's safe.
- "Wonderful! Weatherleah is ours! Are you ready to take us there now?"
- I'm not ready to take you there yet.
- "Very well. We're anxious to return to Weatherleah, so be sure to let me know as soon as you're ready."
If you approach him and ask about the farm again, he will be impatient:
- "You have but to lead us to Weatherleah."
- "Are you ready to show us the way to Weatherleah yet?"
- Weatherleah
- "We can't wait to return to Weatherleah, now that the ogres are dead!"
He will end conversation by reiterating:
- "Please hurry, we are anxious to return home."
When you agree to lead the brothers to Wetherleah, Guilbert will be excited and will start following you everywhere alongside his brother:
- Let's go.
- "Right! We're off!"
If you speak to him while travelling to the farm, you will be able to ask him and his brother to press on or to stop following you:
- "What is it? Should we stop?"
- Stay here.
- "Okay, we'll wait here. Just let us know when it's safe to proceed."
- Let's go.
- "Okay, we'll keep following you."
- "Lead on!"
If you speak to him again while he's waiting, he will ask:
- "Is it safe to continue?"
Safe and sound back in Weatherleah he will once again thank you:
- "Thanks so much for getting us here safely! I'm afraid we aren't very wealthy, but here is all I can offer you at this time. Please, visit us again soon."
- Weatherleah
- "You are welcome here anytime, my friend!"
He will part ways by saying:
- "At long last, it's good to stand at Weatherleah again."
If you approach and greet him again, he will say:
- "Ahhh. So good to be back home."
- "The ogres certainly made a mess of this place. Hopefully, by the time you visit us again, we'll have it cleaned up!"
Now safely in Wetherleah, Guilbert will once again starting a new life upon arrival: Provided that he gets to the single bed before Reynald, he will sleep every night between midnight and 6am amidst all the skulls, skeletons and bones left behind by the ogres. After waking up he ventures outside and strolls around near the house for four hours. At 10am he reenters Weatherleah but the absence of any food in the trashed house makes him wander around the attic for two hours. He heads outside again at noon and stays outside until his bedtime at midnight. Once Weatherleah has been rebuilt, Guilbert will change his routine slightly: food will now be available on the ground floor and he will, at 10am, eat a late two-hour breakfast with his now sober brother. Unfortunately, no extra beds are provided after restoring the house, so the brothers will have to keep fighting for the single bed at midnight.
From now on, you may also hear citizens of Chorrol remark to each other:
- "So, thanks to some hired help, the Jemanes recovered Weatherleah. Good thing... I never liked having ogres so close to Chorrol."
Sins of the FatherEdit
Once you've completed the Legacy Lost quest, the Thieves Guild fence Fathis Ules relocates to The Oak and Crosier inn in Chorrol. Provided their Disposition is above 60, Imperial and Breton citizens will start to remark on Fathis's appearance and his connection with Guilbert and his twin brother:
- Chorrol
- "Did you hear about Reynald Jemane's long lost twin brother returning to Chorrol? Now I hear there's a stranger in town asking about them. A Dark Elf, from back east they say. I wonder what he wants."
Other citizens will also say:
- "There's some strange Dark Elf in town, asking about Reynald Jemane and his brother."
Speak to Fathis, and he will tell you the hidden family history of the Jemanes:
- "I may have a bit of a proposition for you involving the Jemane family you so recently assisted."
- Jemane Family
- "It was kind of you to escort the Jemanes back to Weatherleah. However, the original owner of Weatherleah left them an even greater legacy. In fact, there's quite a bit more to their family history than meets the eye. Want to hear about it?"
- Sure, I'll listen.
- "Excellent. Curiosity should never be denied, is it not so? And who knows, my story may prove profitable to both of us once it has come to its end. My tale actually begins with the father, Albert Jemane. He was once in my employ, or should I say the employ of my organization. He was very good at obtaining things from people who did not want to part with. A professional thief, to put it bluntly. He was assigned to obtain a very valuable item for me. He succeeded, but decided to keep this item for himself. An unfortunate decision. He fled from Chorrol with his family, and was never heard from again. Only his small son Reynald was found, wandering alone in the wilderness. Naturally, my associates and I believed he had perished. The wilderness is, after all, a dangerous place. No place to take your family. Then, these many years later, voila! The brother reappears. It seems the rest of the family did not die in the wilderness after all."
- What do you want me to do?
- "Indeed. What is the point of my tale? Albert Jemane builds Weatherleah way out in the middle of nowhere. He was a thief, not a farmer. The only reason to establish such a place would be to stay out of the Chorrol Guard's sight. I believe that the item Albert stole, which rightly belongs to me, was hidden at the Weatherleah settlement. Unfortunately, the notorious Redguard Valley Ogres ransacked the place and probably took all of the loot back with them. If you were to obtain this item, somehow, and bring it to me, I would pay you very well for it. I can get you started by telling you where the Ogres live. The rest is up to you."
Asking Fathis about the brothers will have him leave things in your hands:
- Jemane Family
- "Guilbert and Reynald know nothing of their father's past deeds. If you want to tell them about it, suit yourself."
If you head to Wetherleah and speak to Guilbert, he will be displeased with your insinuations about his father:
- "Again we meet."
- "Hello again."
- Albert Jemane
- "I find the fact that my father was a "notorious master criminal" absurd. He was a peaceful farmer, nothing more. Where you heard this information I'll never know, but please don't mention it again. Accusation without proof is unfounded."
Should return to Guilbert with the Honorblade in your possession, he will remain adamant:
- Albert Jemane
- "I can't accept what you're implying without some proof of the crime."
If you returned the Honorblade to Laythe Wavrick at Castle Chorrol, when you approach and greet him, he will say:
- "I've heard what you've done."
- "You have something to tell me about my father?"
- Albert Jemane
- "I... I'm at a loss for words. Already I've heard that the Honorblade rests again in Castle Chorrol and the Escutcheon of Chorrol you have is all the proof I need. My father had told us that he had hidden something away for us... something to provide for our future, but I never imagined it was this. I'm sorry you had to be tasked to right this wrong that my father was responsible for. Once again, you've stuck your neck out for us. Maybe in the past my family was notorious, but never let it be said that the current Jemanes don't pay their dues. I'd like you to have this keepsake. My father gave it to me when I was but a lad. I think you should have it. Thanks again, my friend. You are always welcome in our home."
He will then part ways with:
- "Honor suits you well. May your journeys always be safe."
After this, if you approach and greet him, he will say:
- "You grace my presence once again."
- "It's a fine day is it not?"
If on the other hand you gave the Blade to Fathis, he will be noticeably colder:
- Albert Jemane
- "You have a lot of nerve accusing my father of such a heinous crime... and with no proof to back it up? Please, go away before I lose my temper. I know I'm no match for you in combat, but I don't have to talk to you."
On leaving conversation, he will spit:
- "Greed is unbecoming."
From now on, when approaching and greeting him, he will refuse to have anything to do with you:
- "Excuse me."
- "Please, I no longer have a desire to speak with you. I appreciate what you've done in the past, but that's just what it is... the past."
Unused DialogueEdit
- Guilbert has a number of "hello" and "goodbye" lines which you will never hear as they are always overridden by others:
-
- "Perchance, dare I ask another favor?"
- "Farewell then."
- "Keep to it, I have faith in you."
- Guilbert also has an dialogue line he would have used if his brother died, but you will never hear it:
-
- Reynald Jemane
- "My poor brother. I can't help but feel responsible. If he'd never known about me, he'd still be alive."
