A leap of faith, or the right tool for the job?

Quick WalkthroughEdit

This quest only becomes available once you have downloaded the Knights of the Nine official plug-in.

  1. Pray to Zenithar in the Chapel Undercroft in Leyawiin.
  2. Pass the Challenge of Zenithar.
  3. Retrieve the Mace of Zenithar.

Detailed WalkthroughEdit

At the Priory of the Nine, Sir Ralvas asked you to try what he failed, the challenge of Zenithar at Leyawiin's chapel to retrieve the Mace of Zenithar.

Chapel of ZenitharEdit

The Tomb of Saint Kaladas

Enter the Chapel of Zenithar in Leyawiin. Carodus Oholin approaches and asks if you're the one restoring the Knights of the Nine. He tells you that he could not pass the test to retrieve the Mace of Zenithar, and that he has instead stayed to protect and guard it.

Enter the Chapel Undercroft and pray to Zenithar at the Tomb of Saint Kaladas.

Only in a leap from the lion's headEdit

Upon praying to Zenithar at Saint Kaladas' tomb, you will be transported to a dark dimension, seemingly within the undercroft. Across a chasm from the broken floor you are standing on is a platform with the Mace of Zenithar on it.

After a few unsuccessful crossing attempts, you will receive a quest update saying that maybe if you retrieve other relics, a solution will present itself. You will get a hint of what it may be when asking Sir Ralvas or Carodus Oholin about Zenithar: they will explain that Kynareth and Zenithar have a lot in common, since the crafters of Zenithar rely on the materials supplied by nature, Kynareth's domain.

Equip the Boots of the Crusader, and a path will appear that will allow you to walk across to the Mace of Zenithar. If you do not have them yet, you will need to complete the quest Nature's Fury.

Will the Mace prove its worth?Edit

Take the Mace of Zenithar, and you will be transported back out to the Chapel Undercroft. Officially the quest will be complete. However, once you make your way back up into the Chapel, you discover new creatures in the middle of an attack, much like the one on the Chapel of Dibella. These creatures are a new type of Daedra called Aurorans that specifically do the bidding of Umaril.

No matter when the battle occurs, the chapel personnel (Kantav Cheynoslin, Silana Blandia, and Avrus Adas) will immediately appear and will try to battle the Aurorans. Carodus Oholin, who is always in the chapel, will also take on the Aurorans. Carodus is generally able to hold his own and is very aggressive (meaning he will continually jump in front of you), so it is best to take on one of the Aurorans that he is not engaging with. You will have to kill the Aurorans very quickly if you want to save all the NPCs in the Chapel.

After the battle, Carodus Oholin approaches and asks to become a Knight of the Nine.

NotesEdit

  • In addition to the four NPCs who will inevitably be present in the chapel, it is also very possible for multiple townspeople to be present during the Auroran attack, depending upon the day and time. Sundas morning (apparently when chapel holds its service) is the worst time, when there can be up to nine additional NPCs, including Tsavi, Otumeel, On-Staya Sundew, Eitar, Margarte, Hlidara Mothril, the Countess' Bodyguard, and even Marius and Alessia Caro themselves. By 10.30am, the service is over and everyone retires, but because of this, it is recommended that you do this quest late at night when no extra NPCs are around.
  • While the quests for the collection of the four artifacts are technically concurrent subquests of the Priory of the Nine quest, there is one subquest that generally must be completed first in order to complete this quest without resorting to custom spells. See the Notes section of the Nature's Fury quest for more information.
  • NPCs in the Chapel do not mind if you cast long-duration defensive spells on them such as Shield or Fortify Health. Doing this immediately before you rush downstairs to grab the Mace of the Crusader will help the NPCs survive until you can return and kill the Aurorans.
  • The bodies and weapons of the Aurorans will disappear shortly after they are slain. Loot them quickly if you wish to obtain any loot from their bodies.
  • It is possible to obtain the mace by using a long-range telekinesis spell.
  • If you've gained Infamy, you may not be able to wear the Boots of the Crusader. Remove the Infamy by re-completing the Pilgrimage and you will be able to wear them and complete this quest.
    • Similarly, if you're wearing the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal even if your Infamy is 0, you won't be able to wear the Boots of the Crusader. Simply remove the cowl in order to proceed.
  • The chapel undercroft is filled with Sanctified Dead, as you will notice instantly when entering. They normally do not pose a threat and will allow you to rove freely throughout. However, equipping a weapon while in the undercroft may cause the undead to become aggressive. Attacking even one will bring about a large and difficult battle in a relatively confined space. Certain companions can also initiate a fight.
  • Using the editor to inspect the area with the Mace reveals that the location contains an NPC called the "Sleeping Titan". He was seemingly intended to be a gigantic immobile corpse floating in space above the Mace, but for unknown reasons, the NPC is disabled and never appears during the quest.
  • Although you are transported back to Saint Kaladas' tomb unharmed if you take the leap it is possible to die here. If your acrobatics are high enough and you keep pressing the forward key you can hit the pillar while falling down. This will result in taking damage and eventually dying.

BugsEdit

  • The message box saying that you couldn't retrieve the Mace of Zenithar may appear when you get teleported back to the chapel undercroft after you got the Mace.

Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  •   It is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage ND04 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
