Faction(s) Black Horse Couriers

Ahmat was a Redguard member of the Black Horse Couriers. He and his assistant Talaya prepared racecourses for prospective jockeys to ride through on horseback. He was an integral part of the scrapped Horse Racing feature.

DialogueEdit

As you approached, he would say:

"Anytime is a good time for a ride, is it not?"

Ahmat would introduce himself if you approached him without having ever run a horse race:

"My friend. I am Ahmat of the Black Horse Couriers. My assistant Talaya and I have prepared a riding challenge—a winding course across dangerous terrain—and a prize for the fastest rider."

Alik'r DesertEdit

"It's good to see you again. Talaya has really outdone herself this time.
Riding in the desert presents special challenges, you know. The sand in your face, biting at your skin. Are you interested in riding our course?"
"Aha! This one is dear to my heart. It runs past my childhood home, over dunes and crags.
It recalls how the galloping steeds of the Ra Gada charged across the sands in their conquest of Hammerfell!"

AuridonEdit

"Ah! So we meet again! And this time, here in fair Auridon.
They say Queen Ayrenn has an adventurous spirit, so we have designed a special course in her honor. If she passes by, I will invite her to try it."
"Certainly! This course will offer you the opportunity to see many wondrous things.
From shining seas to ancient Ayleid ruins, you will see all this island has to offer. Be wary though, as beautiful as the landscape may be, it is also dangerous."

ColdharbourEdit

"Your skill on horseback is truly unmatched.
In this dark place, you are a source of light—an inspiration to us all and a reminder of the strength we are capable of, even here in Coldharbour."
"When the first soul-shriven were brought here, the servants of Molag Bal had not yet constructed enough prison cells.
Cadwell says that instead they were forced to march—incessantly—down this path. Such suffering … so we ride in their memory."

EastmarchEdit

"Ah! Praise Ruptga! You are just the one I was hoping to see!
You would not believe it! These people here have this fantastic contest called "The Konunleikar", but they have no horse race! Talaya and I have just built them a course."
"It is more exciting than some silly footrace around the city—I promise you that much. Yes. Talaya has really outdone herself this time.
There are only so many places worth visiting in this gods-forsaken land, but you will see all of them."

GrahtwoodEdit

"It is good to see a friendly face, my friend. Everyone in these parts is so serious—even the Bosmer.
That's why we have up come with a challenge we hope will cheer everyone up. You should try it. You will enjoy it. I promise."
"It winds through the forest, following an ancient hoarvoar mating trail.
Once a year, the Bosmer used to herd the female hoarvoars
[sic] down the trail until they were exhausted. After that, the male hoarvoars [sic] had an easier time catching them."

GreenshadeEdit

"It is most excellent to see you again, wayfarer. The heart of Valenwood is a wild and spooky place. It is also an excellent place for another challenge.
I think you will find this one … rather unique."
"Imperial historians say the occupation of Valenwood was the most ill-advised military decision ever made.
The Bosmer ran them in circles—quite literally. They created a devious path through the forest—and that is where are our course runs today."

Malabal TorEdit

"Aha! I knew you would eventually come. Tell me—how much do you hate the Wood Orcs?
No. Wait. Never mind. Don't answer that. Whether you hate them or not, this course will give you the chance to strike fear into their hearts."
"It runs right through the Wood Orcs' territories. They like to hunt, but today, it's their turn to be hunted.
You can charge into their camps and attack, or you can try to ride through their ranks. Either way, you'll scare the Oblivion out of them."

Reaper's MarchEdit

"Ah. Talaya was hoping we would run into you here. These lands are native to her and she is quite confident that the course she has designed here is her best yet.
She is hoping to really give you a challenge this time."
"It follows an old Baandari trading path that is no longer safe enough for travel.
In some places, the forest seeks to reclaim the cleared spaces. Other parts have been ravaged by the Colovian invaders. It will be a wild ride."

Glenumbra?Edit

"Ah! Fancy seeing you in this rugged land! It is fortuitous though, as Talaya told me that she was very much hoping you would come.
She says she has created a more difficult course than the one you faced last. She is anxious to see how you fare."
"It will require your horse to be sure-footed and your mind to be sharp. Like a snake, it slithers through these rocky hills and it will bite you if you are not careful.
I'm afraid you will not see many friendly faces on this route, wayfarer."

BangkoraiEdit

"The sight of an old friend is such a comfort, is it not? The Black Horse Couriers have found a formidable rider in you.
But Bangkorai is a hazardous land. Full of rough terrain and rougher enemies."
"The Black Horse Couriers have commissioned a very special course here.
We are trying to discover a route that will more effectively warn High Rock of Reach attacks. By running this course, you will be actively helping us defend Bangkorai!"

DeshaanEdit

"Friend. Welcome. When the Black Horse Couriers sent their humble servant to set up these challenges, this was precisely the kind of course our sponsors envisioned. I think you will be pleased."
"It took some persuading, but the Tribunal gave the Black Horse Couriers their blessing to set our course across their lands.
The fertile hills and gorges of Deshaan are truly scenic—not to mention the great city of Mournhold!"
"She protested mightily, but I convinced my assistant, Talaya, to restrain herself. The course is designed for the accomplished beginner and hews closely to main roads."

RivenspireEdit

"Personally, if it were not the wishes of the Black Horse Couriers, I would not have gone near Rivenspire. It is a dark place.
But our sponsors want riders tested in all circumstances."
"Dark magic is at work in Rivenspire. Vampires. Daedric influence. Families torn apart.
A rider of the Black Horse Couriers will need to navigate these trials and more in the course of our great work. Are you ready?"
"You will need to keep your wits—and your weapons—at the ready. You will need to have some skill as a rider, though Talaya has left some room for error."

ShadowfenEdit

"My friend, did I not tell you the Black Horse Couriers were setting up courses all across Tamriel?
Even here, in the mire of the Black Marsh, we have a challenge for you!"
"The Shadowfen is a hard place for a mount. When the 17th Imperial Cavalry tried to subdue these marshes, the Argonians waited in the marsh and struck from among the vines.
This course mimics the Imperials' frantic retreat."
"We have designed it for neither beginner nor expert. Be prepared to defend yourself. But you should be able to complete it at a steady pace."

StonefallsEdit

"Though ash makes our eyes water, the Black Horse Couriers are not deterred from our search for the finest riders in all of Tamriel.
And so, we have another course to test your skill!"
"They say that the Akaviri invaders had never seen a horse when they set foot on Stonefalls. What a terrifying sight that must have been!
This course follows the path of several riders who set forth to announce the miracle of the Akaviri defeat."
"This course is a good one to prepare you for a more difficult challenge. It stays close to the main roads, offering short detours into more dangerous territory."

StormhavenEdit

"When Emeric was crowned High King, messengers rode forth from Wayrest. Our course follows in their hoofprints, so to speak."
"I don't think you'll find it very difficult. The course mostly follows the main roads, although I'm sure my assistant Talaya has snuck some special flourishes into the route."
"Excellent riding. When I think of the day Emeric was crowned, I think it is something we all dream of—the chance to ride out bearing such important news."
