The Hillmen of RivenspireEdit
At one point there was plans to make the Hillmen, Rivenspire's natives, into a race that sounds similar to Half-Giants:
- "She's one of the hillmen. They're a big folk: taller than you and me by a long shot.
Some say the hillmen are the great-great-great grandchildren of giants. I'm not sure if I believe that."
The giant ancestors of the hillmen are known as "hill giants":
- "I encountered a hillman named Jonnedor in the Breagha-Fin caves. He said that Veraya's servants are raising the spirits of the hill giants and enslaving them."
References to Breton King Ranser's hillmen heritage remained in game in the book The Fury of King Ranser:
- "Rivenspire was known as the backwater of High Rock. Ranser was one of these surly hillmen, a child of the north, known for his bitter temper and brutal rule"
They also had Nordic ancestors, though if this ancestry was gained before or after the First Empire of the Nords's occupation of High Rock is unknown:
- "Both Nords and giants are our distant kin. We are wardens of the giants' bones and spirits interred here in the caves.
Now the hillmen are gone. They've been routed out and driven from our vigil."
The loading screen that made it to live servers still mention these giants from Breagha-Fin that migrated from Skyrim as being their own race of giants:
- "Fanciful legends abound regarding the mysterious caves of Breagha-Fin, tales of ghost-mammoths, enchanted relics, even skeletal giants. But the folk of Rivenspire are notorious for their overactive imaginations." — Phrastus of Elinhir
There were plans to make "Horsemen" inhabit Rivenspire, and they would have been a type of hillmen. Before ESO, the only horsemen were the River Horse Bretons who inhabit the Bangkorai region around Evermore. Today in live servers, only the foreign Silverhoof Horsemen from Yokuda exist in Rivenspire, where they were invented for ESO and have no connection to the giants of Breagha-Fin. They are completely unrelated to the River Horse Bretons. The River Horse Bretons do not appear whatsoever, and the book The Royal House of King Eamond is the only mention that remains of them:
- "they're a curiosity. They say the Horsemen are descended from the giants of Breagha-Fin.
The Horsemen have herded in these parts for centuries."
The ResistanceEdit
Rivenspire | |

Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
I should investigate the town to find any truth behind the rumors of a "resistance."
I've found a resistance group known as the "Ravenwatch" hiding in Shornhelm's undercity. They're fighting a battle similar to my own, and they've requested my help.
The Bloodsworn Micnog dro-Nar lies dead. That's a major blow to House Montclair. A cloaked figure appeared as we fought. With his aid, I destroyed Micnog's protective barrier. His reign is over. |
VerandisEdit
Count Verandis Ravenwatch was named Verandis Ravenfeld, and he sacrificed himself just as he does at the end of Rivenspire's current zone story, but the nature of the quest was different. The true villain of the zone was a vampire named Karnosis Xane (sometimes misspelled as "Karnoris"), whom Baron Montclair served, and a relic called the Blood Pearl of Molag-Bal was involved. Someone named Scarlette was left in charge of the Ravenwatch in Verandis' stead rather than Adusa-daro, who was called Adusa-diir. Gwendis does not exist, but there was a woman called Scarlette Dwynor.
Reezal-Jul was called Tainted-Heart, and Baroness Leila Montclair was one Leila Xane. Lleraya (occasionally referred to as "Veraya" in a few instances) was a Dark Elf. Tainted-Heart, Lleraya, and Karnosis were in the Mages Guild together. Verandis and Karnosis were friends.
Rivenspire | |

Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
Scarlette Dwynor sent me to the Ravenwatch's leader, Verandis Ravenfeld. The Ravenwatch asked me to travel to the Doomcrag, where Verandis says I can end this plague on Rivenspire once and for all. |
- "I wondered why his troops didn't fall back. This is grave news indeed!
I'm not sure what we will do against another foe. Perhaps I should call for aid from Stormhaven."
- "Truly? You are a blessing from the gods. Of that there is no doubt!
A strange Altmer came to us, asking to ally his forces with ours. He said this was your doing, but I did not believe him. It seems I was mistaken!"
- "I knew that scoundrel couldn't have done this on his own! He has no mind for warfare, that's for sure.
We will need to mount a counterattack immediately. I will not let another usurp Shornhelm from me!"
- "I'm myself again … for the moment, at least. I can still feel the hunger clawing at my soul, but for the moment, I can push it away.
The violence, the hatred, the anger … do the fiends continually suffer through this nightmare?"
- "<<1>> was a necromancer? No, Verandis would have seen that. It's more likely he was tempted by the power he found here.
Poor Marcel. I never had a chance to tell him. He won't come out of there again. I … I have to go to him."
- "Ah. You know my shame, then. Yes, it's true. When the bloodfiends attacked, I behaved like a coward.
Is it so unforgiveable? I am a scholar. I've never faced death before. We should turn our attentions back to <<1>>, should we not?"
The Slave PitsEdit

Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
I investigated the rumors of kidnapped citizens sent to an area called the "Slave Pits." I found a dying man who told horrific tales of vampires feeding on captured people, and took him back to Eselde Tamrith. It was too late for him, however.(If you sided with Countess Eselde Tamrith)
I investigated the rumors of kidnapped citizens sent to an area called the "Slave Pits." I found a dying man who told horrific tales of vampires feeding on captured people, and took him back to Alard Dorell. It was too late for him, however.(If you sided with Baron Alard Dorell) |
- I only ask because I heard Montclair's forces were on their way back.
- "What? They're coming back already?
Damn it! The Lion Guard's soldiers are toothless, but Montclair? They say he kills people just to collect their bodies. He'd string me up if his men caught me here!"
The Dream-WalkEdit
- "The Ravenwatch is a small group of… uniquely talented people that I recruited. Our present goal is to aid Rivenspire and stop the spread of the blood curse that originated from Doomcrag.
Montclair, was, sadly, merely a took of a greater evil." - And you formed the Ravenwatch?
- "Yes. The Ravenwatch is a group of true vampires that I handpicked to help me combat Karnosis and his Dawnwalkers.
Rivenspire is our home, and helping its people gives us a more noble purpose than simply drinking blood." - Why was Montclair aiding them?
- "Montclair was a fool who allowed himself to be tempted by the promise of power. Lleraya has a way of convincing people to do whatever she wants. Males are especially susceptible to her … charms. Montclair was no exception."
- You're really a vampire?
- "I really am. An elder vampire, in fact. That's why the relic didn't affect me.
The corruption that claimed Karnosis and the others isn't true vampirism. It's more of a sickness. Some attain power, but most become feral monsters from its touch." - (?)
- "I uncovered the ancient manuscripts that described the Ayleid ruin. My initial translation indicated that the ruins housed a restorative relic of great power.
I thought it might be able to help poor Leila. But as you saw, I was wrong." - You led Karnosis to the Doomcrag?
- You're a vampire?
- "People tend to take that word and associate it with blood sucking and killing. Though there is some truth to that.
I like to think of myself as, eh, gifted.
Now this is the part where I say I'm different and you gasp and say "I can't trust you!"." - Who is Karnosis Xane?
- Scarlette said you wanted to speak with me.
- "She probably made it sound very mysterious. She so loves her theatrics.
I thought it was time to tell you what I know of Lleraya, Tainted-Heart, and their leader, Karnosis Xane." - What can you tell me about these two?
- "Both have practiced the arts of necromantic magic under Karnosis for as long as I can remember. They are both powerful in their own right.
Be on your guard when you confront them. They will use both the living and the dead against you." - Who is Tainted-Heart?
- "An Argonian, quite powerful in the guild at the time. His Jel name is lost now, but his nickname is well deserved.
He was a mage with dark ambitions, and now he has the power to pursue his twisted desires."
- "An Argonian, quite powerful in the guild at the time. His Jel name is lost now, but his nickname is well deserved.
- Who is Lleraya?
- "The Dark Elf Lleraya is a powerful sorcerer. I thought she was simply a friend of Karnosis' wife, concerned with her friend's welfare.
I learned too late that she was actually a necromancer."
- "The Dark Elf Lleraya is a powerful sorcerer. I thought she was simply a friend of Karnosis' wife, concerned with her friend's welfare.
- Who is Karnosis Xane?
- "Karnosis was my friend. I tried to help him, but … well, you shall see.
I knew these three when they were part of the Mages Guild. Before they became … what they now are. I must atone for my mistakes. I must save Rivenspire from Karnosis."
- "Karnosis was my friend. I tried to help him, but … well, you shall see.
- Tell me your story, first.
- "It has been my experience that showing is better than telling. I have a way for you to dream-walk through my memories, if you are willing.
The potion upstairs will initiate the process." - What do you know of Karnosis, Tainted-Heart and Veraya.
- "More than I wish to. If you wish to understand Karnosis and the others, you need to see what happened within Doomcrag.
I have crafted a magic potion which can show you some of my memories, a dream-walk of sorts. You can find it upstairs." - I'll try the potion.
- "Karnosis was a high-ranking member of the Mages Guild, as were Tainted-Heart and Lleraya. We took a contingent of mages with us to the Doomcrag—most everyone from the Shornhelm guildhall, in fact.
These mages became the first of the Dawnwalkers." - Why was Montclair aiding them?
- "Karnosis' wife just kept getting sicker and sicker. He begged me to give her the gift of Vampirism. But I refused. Leila would never have been happy as a vampire."
- So Karnosis' wife was sick. I get it.
- "He was convinced that performing the ritual at top of the Doomcrag would cure Leila. I warned him that his translation of the ancient text was sloppy but he wouldn't listen to reason. So we packed up and headed for the Doomcrag."
- So Karnosis' wanted to use the artifact to heal Leila. I get it.
- "He refused to accept Leila's death. He scoured the land in search of a cure."
- What happened next?
- "The ritual didn't save her. It damned us all as the first bloodfiend rose from her corpse.
The others, Veraya and her Argonian, thought it was magnificent. Karnosis lost his mind. I alone knew what we had done.
I knew what we had become."
Scarlette:
- "The Ravenwatch are vampires trying to live in peace with the people of Rivenspire. We don't kill the blameless. We don't drink innocent blood.\n\nRight now, we're trying to keep a dangerous relic out of the hands of evil vampires. So let's get to it!"
Karnosis Xane:
- "According to my research, the other two shards are still in the Doomcrag. Using all three shards we can activate the relic to cure my Leila of the disease that plagues her.
It's got to work. I can't lose her." - I worry that you haven't done enough research, but of course I'm coming.
- You and the others. You need to get away from the relic. It's doing something to you.
- "Never! This is your fault, vampire! Your presence altered the relic's magic.
But I can restore Leila! The relic has changed me. The others, as well. We're stronger, more powerful. This sensation, however. How odd! I have a sudden craving for blood." - You aren't a vampire, at least not as I am. But you have changed. The relic is corrupted.
- "Corrupted? What a ridiculous notion! I feel its power coursing through me. I am better than I was—immortal!
With this power, I'll make sure that no one else suffers as Leila suffered. There will be no more death! I'll make everyone immortal!" - She's dead, Karnosis. Let her go.
You would have had the opportunity to figure out how Leila Xane died, helping her spirit recover its memories along the way.
- "Lord Ravenfeld? Why, he's been our guest for quite some time. He's quite charming, for an Altmer.
Ah, I meant no offense. Relations with the Aldmeri have been strained, to say the least."
- "Lord Xane is keenly interested in nurturing diplomatic relations with our neighbors. With the blessing of King Ranser, he's orchestrated a meeting of the minds, if you will.
Perhaps one day, we will come to have peaceful relations across our lands!"
- "Lord Ravenfeld has been here for some time. An Argonian recently arrived. What strange creatures they are!
Oh, and of course, Lady Veraya! Between you and me, I think Lord Xane may have fallen for her charms."
- "Do I seem pale? Oh, I hope I am not coming down with something. We've far too many visitors for me to lay about with an illness.
I will speak to a healer soon. Thank you for letting me know!"
- "(?)"
- (?)
- "This is Shornhelm, and you are in the embassy of King Ranser. My husband, Lord Xane, is the master of these premises in His Majesty's absence.
At least, he was the master. I don't know where he is … or where I truly am."
You'd find some of Leila's belongings in chests, which you would then show to her.
- "<This chest contains a myriad of noblewomen's clothing stained with what looks like dried blood.
<You take along one of the blouses in case it has anything to do with Leila's death.>"
"Why, those are mine! Why do you have them? And why are they covered in blood?
My death must not have been peaceful. Oh, Karnosis, how I wish you were here now!"
- Leila, whose clothes are these? / Whose clothes are these? / Do you know whose clothes these are?
- "These are my clothes. There is blood on them, but more than that. They reek of rot and dirt.
My husband could not have raised his hand against me. I wish I understood!"
- Turn to the first page.
- "<The first page has no title. The notes are by many different hands. This may be the most recent notation.>
"Ayleid magic is concentrated here. What was its original purpose? These could be fairy tales, or are they an ancient type of necromancy?"" - Turn to the bookmark.
- "<A faded ribbon marks a page written in an arcane language. Notes are scribbled in the margins.>
"Is it possible to harness this power for life instead of death? We must find out more." - Turn to the last page.
- <The margin of the book's last page contains a shaky notation that's barely legible.>
"Leila wavers. We've not much time left. Ritual seems incomplete, but we must try."
- "That dagger you have. It was my husband's. Did he-
No, I remember. I remember the screams. Sweet Stendarr, forgive him. Forgive us!
What madness overtook him?" - This book mentioned a ritual. Could it be related?
- "There was a ritual. My husband said I would be well soon. There was so much blood.
But it was not his hand alone that wielded that blade. Three others … I remember." - What do you remember about the ritual?
- "My locket. It was a gift to me from that Altmer, Lord Ravenfeld. The last thing I remember after the ritual was dropping it out here.
Strange. Was I not too sick to walk?" - Who is this Veraya?
- "That name … yes, she came when I was ill with a strange lizard creature I'd never seen before.
Karnosis said they were emissaries, but they looked like none I've ever seen before." - Could she have had something to do with the ritual?
- "Yes, she spoke in a strange tongue. She knew the runes on the pages, and she spoke them to my husband.
I was shaking when I heard her speak them. So foul and primitive." - Why is the staff so important?
- "I have seen that before. Lord Ravenfeld brought it from his travels. My husband was very excited when he saw it.
He said it would help me get well. I don't remember that happening."
- "What about them? The Mages Guild is here to learn whatever it can.
As for Lleraya and Tainted-Heart, they believe in my quest. They will help us save Leila. They gave me their word."
- "Who I was, or who I am now, does not matter. You must stop my husband Karnosis before he can unite with the Lightless Remnants.
He's collected souls in braziers about the room, waiting for the time when the Remnants will demand their sacrifice." - Karnosis is your husband?
- "An age ago, we were married.
His sorrow for my death has left him empty. Now he knows only his need for power and the Lightless Remnants. Nothing else remains." - How can I stop him?
- "When a soul is reunited with a body, it remembers what it once was. We must release these souls, so they can find a path to Aetherius.
Use the Soul Gem from the <<z:1>> to transfer the souls from each <<z:2>> to a nearby body. Then release them." - What are the Lightless Remnants?
- "Not even he knows where they truly came from. The Ayleid were the last to discover them. Karnosis entombed them in this spire.
He is as much of a thrall to the artifacts' will as his undead servants are to him." - Do you have any advice on defeating him?
- "Karnosis bound my spirit to this place when he failed to save me. I've watched what he's become … what he's turned into. He is not the man I once loved, though his intentions never changed."
- "The dead cannot hold a soul fast. In his greed, Karnosis left these bodies alive, but soulless.
Use the Soul Gem from the <<z:1>> to transfer the souls from each <<z:2>> to a nearby body. Once the soul is anchored, destroy the body to send it on."
- "The souls are free now.
You must understand that he will not stop until he has destroyed everything he once held dear. He will sacrifice everything, if it will give him more power."
- Karnosis Xane: "You were right, Verandis. I can feel it. The relic is here!"
- Karnosis Xane: "Let's deal with these bothersome creatures and save my dear Leila."
- Leila Xane: "Karnosis, I fear what you are doing. Please, I am so weary."
- ?: "Come Verandis. We will deal with the creatures. We should hurry."
- Leila Xane: "The relic, Karnosis! Can you feel it? We're almost there!"
- ?: "Leila, wait until we clear the way."
Final Confrontation at the DoomcragEdit
- "The usual, but nothing we couldn't handle.
Karnosis won't make it any easier from here on in. Our scouts have already noticed a larger presence of bloodfiends and vampires up ahead. It must be the welcoming committee." - Any trouble getting up here?
- "Only the bulk of Karnosis' power. Bloodfiends and the Dawnwalker elite will hound us every step of the way. And the remnant has had an effect on the local flora and fauna, as well.
Reaching the Doomcrag will not be a simple matter." - Do we really need all these troops?
- "The Countess and Baron seem to think so, and who am I to contradict the Great Houses of Shornhelm?
The more soldiers we send, the more likely it is that our own forces will turn against us. But faith and strength will protect us. Apparently." - Is this your first time back here since this all began?
- "Yes. I have avoided this place since my falling out with Karnosis. We walked into the Doomcrag as friends, but what happened there that day shattered our friendship.
Now that I have returned, one of us will die to pay for our transgression."
Verandis would have assisted you at the Doomcrag.
- "Karnosis used the power of the remnant to create the barrier, and only the remnant can remove it.
The shards are our keys to open the barrier. But they're too small to survive direct contact with the magic Karnosis put in place." - What can you tell me about the barrier?
- "Yes. Of course they have. I suppose that will have to do.
Karnosis set up a barrier, sealing off the Doomcrag. To enter the pass, we need to breach that barrier. That's where Lleraya and Tainted-Heart's pieces of the remnant come in." - Why do we need the pieces of the remnant?
- "The magic of the barrier attacks the flesh. Not even my kin can survive for long within the deadly storm of energy.
Karnosis does have a way with such spells. It's almost elegant in its destruction."
- What happened to the soldiers?
- "They rushed into the glowing doorway. Didn't they see the ward? It's clearly a trap.
It wasn't forged by Karnosis, though. One of his lieutenants, probably. Someone imbued with the magic of the remnant crafted this." - How do I get past the ward?
- "Go on ahead and find the soldiers. Deal with them before they become threats.
Then find and destroy the shard holder so we can move our troops forward. Otherwise, we might as well kill the mortals now and be done with it." - Does that mean someone else has a remnant shard inside of them?
- "I believe I just said that. It seems that Lleraya and Tainted-Heart were not the only ones favored by Karnosis.
These mortal can't go any further. The shard will affect them, turn them into bloodfiends. They'll attack us without hesitation." - Is the Remnant turning them?
- "I'll send you through. Just remember, you'll be on your own.
Now, prepare yourself as I cast my spell."
- Do we have enough troops left to defeat Karnosis?
- "We had loses [sic], that is true. But the few you see around us are the only ones I allowed to go through the portal. The risk of the blood-curse still remains high.
Besides, only a few of us are needed to finish what we started." - So how do we proceed?
- "The Lightless Remnant. We must destroy that cursed relic.
We'll find it just a little farther ahead. But Karnosis will become more desperate the closer we get to the relic. I'm not sure how he will react, and that concerns me greatly." - Is there something you need me to do?
- "We need a vessel. Something to carry the shards and protect them long enough to bring down the barrier.
Karnosis has a number of undead that may serve our purpose. It just needs to be large and devoid of flesh. Something made of bone, perhaps." - And how do I get something undead to carry the shards?
- Will he send more forces at us?
- "The higher we climb, the stronger his defenses will be. It would be irresponsible to send our forces any closer. If Karnosis creates another shard holder, our allies would become our enemies in an instant."
- What do you need me to do next?
- "I have another mission that requires your unique approach. Take this rune and carry it up to the Doomcrag's entrance.
Once there, I can link to the rune and open a portal that can transport our forces to a defensible location." - Carry the rune to the entrance to the Doomcrag. Anything else?
- "Take Adusa with you. When you reach the tower, use the rune and my portal will open.
This will allow the bulk of our forces to avoid Karnosis' minions and immediately take up a secure position." - Why Adusa?
- "Adusa has been at my side longer than any of the others. I trust her completely, and the remnant won't have the same effect on her as it would on our other allies. She'll meet you on the other side of the gate.
We are so close. Do not fail us now." - Let's go.
- "He's been busy directing Montclair. Without time to feed, he'll be vulnerable.
Outlast him. The source is infinite. His power isn't. Attack too soon, and he'll destroy you. Kill his minions. Let him wear himself down, and when he's alone, strike!" - So how do I defeat him?
- "We are weakened when drawn away from a source of that power. Karnoris has been here for weeks, directing Montclair. Without time to feed, he will be vulnerable."
- Show a little gratitude. If not for Verandis, you would have already turned into a bloodfiend.
- "And we wouldn't be here at all if Verandis hadn't shown Karnosis the Lightless Remnant in the first place.
The Light watches over us. The Light has led us here safely." - We wouldn't have made it this far without the Ravenwatch. / They're part of the reason we've made it this far.
- "Hmmph. Think what you like. The Light guides House Tamrith, and in the Light we shall emerge victorious."
Lady Tamrith
- The Light is going to protect us?
- "The Light would not have guided us to this moment if it did not intend to protect us.
Some will be lost, but victory will be ours. The Light has a plan, and we must follow it." - "I'm glad to know we see the same purpose behind our goals in this.
We have to focus on getting into the Doomcrag and destroying the Remnant. The Light is the only hope I have right now. I can't lose sight of that." - "After all I've seen, the Light is the only thing I have to hold onto right now. My troops cling to it.
Believe in it or not, it gives my people hope to know something out there is watching over us. Protecting us.
I'll not take hope away from them."
Baron Dorell
- "Oh, we're working together, all right.
But does she have to drive me crazy while we're doing it?" - We won't beat Karnosis if we're fighting each other.
- "We're not fighting. See? I haven't harmed a hair on her Light-filled head.
Don't worry. I won't do anything to compromise our mission. But after we deal with Karnosis, me and the Light lady are going to have a few words."
- "Fine. I'll let you grab one of her legs and help me throw her as well. The more the merrier. Her and her light will fly farther that way."
- "Do we have any choice? Failure is not an option. One way or another, we have to find a way to win the day."
- Are the soldiers of House Dorell ready for this?
- "My troops are shaken, as anyone would be. But they're brave bastards, the lot of them. They'll do their duty when called upon, mark my words.
Nothing will stop us—no vampire, no Tamrith, and certainly no cursed relic." - "Annoying is the tame way of putting it.
Don't worry. I won't do anything to compromise our mission here. But after this is all said and done, I can't make any promises."
- "I'm sure Karnosis' agents will attempt to block your path.
<<1>> and <<2>> are not to be taken lightly. Putting an end to them will be the only way we can confront Karnosis without interference."
- "Confidence is good, but I don't want us to make the same mistake I did so many years ago. We mustn't underestimate the power Karnosis wields … or the power that wields him.
I've said enough. We … I must not delay this any longer."
- "Yes. He's mad with grief or simply lust for the power we tapped into that day. Either way, he's an abomination and must be destroyed.
Getting to him is the easy part. No question, he's a powerful opponent."
- "Like Karnosis, I'm bound to this power. I felt his presence in Montclair's manor, and my will weakened.
I don't like to admit it, but you're one of the few who can face him. You must do it alone." - He will die by my hand.
- "When Karnosis channeled the power from the Doomcrag, we all became a part of it, including Karnosis, <<1>>, <<2>>, and me.
We feel the weight on our souls. We suffer from unending thirst. We're weakened when drawn away from a source of that power." - So how do I defeat Karnosis?
539: likely Verandis quest end dialogue.
- "I am glad you're so agreeable. Most I've approached have been rather uncooperative.
Now then, let us get on with Lord Montclair's demise. He's in the cavern before us." - "The talisman and the power it represents has corrupted countless hearts and minds.
It is a blight upon this world and the ones who would wield it." - "You've returned. I assume this means you don't believe I'm a ruthless killer. Perhaps you've come to avenge the many people I've slain.
No matter. What's done is done, and I can never hope to atone for it." - "So you live, and Lord Montclair does not. Things could not have gone better, I'd say.
I'm sure your noble house will be glad to hear of Montclair's death, though their strife is far from over." - "I should have known Scarlette would try something drastic. After all, I did so myself many years ago.
In time, she will mend. I can only hope the dark magic's hold on her heals along with her wounds." - "I never thought to find one as brave or capable as you, <<1>>.
Be wary. If you fall to his power, all your effort will be for naught." - "Return here when you've learned all you can in the mansion.
And if you find a golden locket, please bring it with you." - "The fight here is over.
We must put the pieces of Shornhelm back into place before we march to the Doomcrag. We must destroy the Lightless Remnant. The aid of the noble houses will be crucial to that task." - "Karnosis, Leila … I led them down that path to damnation. Call it a quest for knowledge or a play for power. It doesn't matter.
I must stop what I've started. Karnosis and his allies must not be allowed to live." - Please, make yourself comfortable. As long as this place is not being used, I might as well use it myself.
My associates and I are known as the Ravenwatch. Perhaps that's a bit grandiose, but our purpose is deadly serious."
- Leila Xane: "Verandis … what are you doing here? Why would you come back to this awful place?"
- Verandis Ravenfeld: "Leila … how are you here? What has Karnosis done to you?"
- Adusa-diir: "Let us continue, Scarlette. Verandis must deal with this on his own."
- Leila Xane: "Karnosis wouldn't let me go. Even after we failed to use the Remnant. He trapped my spirit … held me in his grasp and kept me here. He'll never let me leave here. He knew you'd come back eventually. "Right your wrongs" he'd say."
- Verandis Ravenfeld: "He knew me well then. I'm sorry for what happened to you. If I had known back then what I know now - I would have turned you to save you. But I didn't. I gave Karnosis the idea to bring you here. This … was my fault."
- ?: "That was hardly a challenge! I can feel the veil shifting. Verandis will bring the troops along now that the shard holder is destroyed."
- ?: "The way ahead … can it be? It is! A veil has been cast upon these ruins."
- Karnosis Xane: "Ah, you must be one of Verandis' puppets. What do you call yourselves? The Ravenwatch? How … amusing."
- Scarlette Dwynor: "Puppet? The only puppet here is you!"
- Karnosis Xane: "Look at them, Verandis! Look at them! Your pupils are embracing the power of the Remnant. They feed upon these mortals that you'd be so foolish to bring here."
- Verandis Ravenfeld: "This ends now, Karnosis. I will stop you!"
- Verandis Ravenfeld: "Stop those two. They don't have control of themselves. I'll deal with Karnosis."
- Scarlette Dwynor: "Yes, come and … deal with us. I had always wondered what you would taste like."
- Scarlette Dwynor: "What … what am I doing? Stop! Please!"
- Adusa-diir: "This one is confused … what is going on?"
- Verandis Ravenfeld: "What have you done to them? What have you done?"
- "Tainted-Heart and Lleraya were powerful, but did you notice they weren't with Karnosis and the Lightless Remnants? What kind of a creature would want its soul devoured in the name of power?
I'm dwelling on this too much. We have work to do." - How can you if you can't even get close to it?
- "Karnosis has bound himself to the remnant. He knows if it's destroyed, the entire power of it will unleash across this land.
Either way, he thinks he will win this battle. You have to kill him. I'll handle the rest."' - I'll handle it.
- "Thank you for this. The people of Rivenspire will be forever grateful to you.
This has to stop here. You saw what it did to Scarlette and Adusa. We can't have that happen to everyone.
Stop him." - What do I need to do?
- "You have to trust me.
Your only worry is stopping Karnosis. It will not be easy. He will do everything in his power to kill you, or worse, attempt to change you as well.
No matter what, he needs to die." - Count Verandis Ravenfeld: "Keep your eyes open. We have to be ready for anything."
- Karnoris Xane: "Now now, Verandis. You didn't expect to come into my realm and destroy everything I've worked for, did you? No... you will die here!"
- Count Verandis Ravenfeld: "Protect me!"
- Count Verandis Ravenfeld: "You must launch Karnoris' orbs back at him! Strike at them - quickly!"
- Count Verandis Ravenfeld: "Prepare yourself! The power of the Remnants are shifting their power towards you."
- Count Verandis Ravenfeld: "Do not fear! The power of the Remnants are yours to control!"
- Count Verandis Ravenfeld: "Excellent! Now to destroy the source of the Remnants power... wait... no, this can't be!"
- Count Verandis Ravenfeld: "You must destroy the Pearl to close the Planemerge! Quickly, while Karnoris is distracted!"
- Karnoris Xane: "No! You will not destroy the Blood Pearl. The power of Molag Bal will be mine... I shall complete the Plane Merge!"
- Karnoris Xane: "No! It can't be! How... how were you able to destroy it? Ugh!"
- Count Verandis Ravenwatch: "The Planemerge is closing! You... must escape. Tell Scarlette that she is in charge now. Tell all my Ravens... I will miss them. Do not worry about me!"
- Count Verandis Ravenwatch: "You are safe now. We will meet again... my friend."
Scarlette:
- Karnosis is gone, but so is Verandis.
- "Ah, I see. Yes, he would be.
Before he left, Verandis asked me to lead the Ravenwatch in his stead if something happened to him.
He wouldn't have said that if he didn't know what was going to happen."

Scarlette Dwynor sent me to the Ravenwatch's leader, Verandis Ravenfeld. The Ravenwatch asked me to travel to the Doomcrag, where Verandis says I can end this plague on Rivenspire once and for all.
I must journey to Montclair's mansion on the northern part of Shornhelm. Once inside, I'll have to bide my time until Karnosis tires out, and then strike the killing blow.
I've slain Karnosis Xane, though as he fell, he said he was not truly defeated. Either way, I should bring the news to my sworn house.
I've let House Dorell know the threat to Shornhelm will soon fall with the defeat of Montclair and his dark master. I should speak to Verandis within Lord Alard's stronghold.
While High King Emeric and Verandis Ravenfeld discuss plans for dealing with Karnosis and his ilk, I've been asked to go east to find the House Tamrith soldier, Skordo the Knife.
Verandis should be at Ravenwatch Castle, which is located near the town of Crestshade, to the west of Shornhelm. I should go there and talk to him.
I drank the potion and entered Verandis' memories. In fact, in the memory, I am Verandis. I should try to discover what happened in this memory.
I drank the potion and entered Verandis' memories. Now I'm experiencing this event as Verandis did. I should explore the area and see what happened.
We're in the Doomcrag. As Verandis, I'm accompanying Karnosis and members of the Mages Guild to find an Ayleid relic he believes will cure his dying wife. We need to overcome the creatures here before we can get to the relic.
Something went wrong and Leila died. Karnosis, Lleraya, and Tainted-Heart seem different somehow, though. I should talk to Karnosis and find out how he is.
The skeleton atop Karnosis' necromantic altar spoke to me. I should see what it has to say.
Adusa believes that a vessel that can contain the shards can be found in this chamber. I need to locate it, weaken it, and then use the rune of binding to take control of it.
I bound a vessel that now contains the shards. I should exit this chamber now and return to the pass.
Verandis wants Skordo and I to lead the assault and clear a path to the barrier for the vessel. I should talk to Skordo and let him know I'm ready to move out.
Skordo provided me with a couple of soldiers to help me clear a path to the door sealed by Karnosis' barrier.
It worked. The barrier has been eliminated and the path to the next level of the pass is open. I should meet the others on the next level.
The house troops continue to ignore Verandis' warnings and rush ahead blindly. They could be killed—or worse, turned into bloodfiends. I should talk to Verandis and see how he wants to proceed.
Scarlette says I should be able to spot a tear in the veil now that she's nearby. Through that tear, we can enter the veil and eliminate another one of Karnosis' shard carriers.
The way to Tamriel is open! I must enter the rift to escape!
Perhaps I can convince one of the Ravenwatch vampires to visit <<1>>.
I've found Tainted-Heart and Lleraya on the second level of the Doomcrag. I must defeat them before I can get to Karnosis Xane on the spire's top level.
Verandis and I need to head up to the next level of the Doomcrag to find Gwendis, Countess Tamrith, and Baron Dorell.
The spirit of Leila wishes to speak to me.
We freed Gwendis and the nobles. Darien and Skordo will watch over them. I should talk to Verandis and see what he suggests we do next.
I've defeated Tainted-Heart and Lleraya and dissipated their souls. That should disrupt Karnosis' plans long enough for me to confront him. I should continue my trek up the Doomcrag and find Verandis.
I've collected enough planar essence. Now I can use the ward to summon Verandis inside the Merging Planes.
Now that I've entered the pinnacle of the Doomcrag, I must find a way to destroy the Lightless Remnants that fuel [sic] Karnosis Xane's power.
Karnosis Xane is defeated, and the Lightless Remnants are no more. In the end, Verandis Ravenfeld sacrificed his life to destroy them. I should return to the base of the Doomcrag and let Scarlette know what happened.

While the Ravenwatch examines the essence, I should speak to Verandis and learn our next step.
After the death of Montclair, Verandis Ravenfeld told me he would swear allegiance to my sworn ally, House Tamrith. Tamrith was amazed to hear about Ravenwatch and its newfound loyalty to her.

Normar HeightsEdit
The town of Fell's Run was explicitly synonymous with the village of Normar Heights. Mayor Orrard Normar had a dispute with Magharz gro-Thorkan of Thorkan Park, accusing the Orcs of performing necromancy.
- Mayor Orrard Normar^M
- Constable Agazu^F
- "Of all the indignities! Nothing is more vexing than giving my lands away to those Orcs!
Isn't it enough that they sacked our capital? Now they take our homes. Mayor Normar must stand up for us, but he won't see me anymore. Could you talk to him?" - "I've read the legends and half-coherent histories of mad necromancers. The truth may very well be more than they ever imagined.
<<1>> is aware of its purpose, however. Thus, we are at a disadvantage. We can only guess what power it will grant him." - "Our people abhor necromancy.
Many of these Orcs were once friends and relatives of ours. What could have caused this? Why have they fallen so far?
There's no excuse for this. Disrupt their worship. Defile their altars."
- "Necromancy has never been a part of our culture, yet Normar screams about Orcish cultists holding rituals on the Ruined Steppe.
I want peace in Fell's Run. Find and destroy any signs of necromancy. Then the rumors will be laid to rest." - "<You've found a scrap of parchment.>
"Our dark master waits. - Our lives we have sworn.
- He drowns light in darkness,
- Death to the Unborn."
<This parchment should be of interest to anyone curious about recent events on the steppe.>"
- "If Normar will not accept my covenant, then I'm not sure what we will do."
- "If Normar's falling to the demands of the Orcs, what's to become of the town?"
- "First they give, then they take away. What more can you expect from a conniving Breton like Normar?"
- "The people of Fell's Run may have mixed feelings about our dedication, but I know this is the right path for all of us."
- "Fell's Run is far from peaceful, but I am optimistic.
We'll survive the turmoils of Rivenspire. I know it." - "It's about time someone stood up to that Orc!"
- "Normar has high hopes for his proclamation.
I shall remain cautiously optimistic." - "Normar better resolve this situation soon.
His lack of action is simply unacceptable." - "I presume the Queen has informed you of this cultist threat?"
- "Fell's Run seems a good enough place to settle as any."
- "Your handling of the Fellwatch situation was truly impressive.
You have a promising future as a lawman, if that's what you want." - "I'd go give Normar a piece of my mind, but he said if he saw me again, he'd call the guards.
What kind of man won't listen to his own citizens?" - "I won't stand for this. If Normar doesn't do something soon, I'll take matters into my own hands."
- "Normar is crazy if he thinks we're going to give in to those Orcs' demands!"
- "I can't believe gro-Thorkan would back down to the Breton's demands! This does not bode well for our people."
- "Looks like Normar and gro-Thorkan have finally made some progress!"
- "It won't be long before the Bretons take back what they've given. That is their way."
- "This is all well and good, but what will become of us when the Orcs decide to take what we won't give them?"
- "A noble effort, but it won't be long before the Bretons take back what they've given us.
That is their way." - "I can't believe gro-Thorkan would back down to the Breton's demands!
This does not bode well for our people." - "Looks like Normar and gro-Thorkan finally made some progress!"

- "I won't stand for this. If Normar doesn't do something soon, I'll take matters into my own hands."
- "Now I can focus on more important matters."
- "Normar was ambitious to think that this charter would bring peace. It's really the first step in a long journey.
Without your aid, of course, we could never have come this far. You certainly have the thanks of all of us in Fell's Run." - "That stubborn fool! At least Normar has finally found proof for his wild claims of necromancy."
- "Duke Roddard Rielle of Normar? He was a vassal of the King of Shornhelm.
He fought with distinction in the siege of Orsinium. In fact, he was one of the first through the Iron Gate.
We know he participated in the sack of the city with wild abandon." - "The skull belonged to Kurgen gro-Agluk, a warlord of the Orcs and hero ancestor of clan Agluk.
Most of that clan were slain in the siege of Orsinium, but a few still survive." - "Thorkan and Normar keep talking about unity, but what are they actually doing about it?"
Necromancy at Fell's RunEdit
- Thorkan is worried that Normar's rumors of necromancy in Fell's Run will cause bloodshed between Orcs and Bretons. To keep the peace, he wants to stop to the necromantic rituals and put Normar's fears to rest. / Thorkan was worried that rumors of necromancy around Fell's Run would cause bloodshed between Orcs and Bretons. Millie Gavendien, the wife of Fellwatch's leader, has asked me to convince kidnapped peasants to escape from the Fellwatch camp." The peasants in Fell's Run are turning on each other with accusations of theft. The easiest way to solve this is by finding the stolen items. Gro-Thorkan suspects the Fellwatch stole them, not just for profit, but also to create strife in Fell's Run." Gro-Thorkan asked me to look into a feud between two farmers. Those orcs headed west towards the Ruined Steppe. Seemed to be in a big hurry. Looked very grim.\n\nOrcs can look mighty grim when they have a mind to, you know." I should cull any sickened or weak cows on the Ruined Steppe.
I culled the sickened cows in gro-Largash's herd near the Ruined Steppe, thereby making it safer for the rest of his cows to graze. I've called back Arniel's cows from the field until the feud between him and gra-Orgak is resolved. I've branded some of the cows on the Ruined Steppe with Duzag gra-Orgak's brand. This will serve as a reminder of whose cows belong to whom.
- Eastern Smallholds
- I should talk to gra-Orgak to see what this feud is all about. She's over in the Smallholds, just south of Fell's Run.
- I couldn't close the portal, but I might be able to convince Arlie to do it. I should speak to her at her cave in the Smallhold southern mountains.
- As if this town didn't have enough problems!\n\nNow I've heared two of the farmers in the smallholds are feuding over their herds.\n\nIf you could stop them before they come to blows, I'd be in your debt.

I should deliver this parchment to someone interested in recent events on the Ruined Steppe.
I delivered the covenant to Normar, who signed it as he was asked. He pledged to send for the peasant and her family as soon as possible.
Normar wants to inform the entire town of a new partnership between the Orcs and Bretons in Fell's Run.
Normar and gro-Thorkan have drafted a new town charter. I've put up copies around town. There were mixed reactions, but everyone in town now knows that equal representation of Orcs and Bretons will result in fair decisions for all. |
DialogueEdit
Skordo?
- You get around quickly.
- "Well, good for you. You do get around. Almost as much as me. With a bit less panache though. Ha!
Still, there seems to be trouble brewing at Northpoint. Constable Agazu may have some information we can use, or she may even be able to lend a hand."
Verandis or Adusa?
- Why go to all this trouble if I need you to find him?
- "Only those connected to the remnant and vampires like me can sense the veil. We're just special that way.
I can help you find the veil and we can eliminate another shard carrier." - And how do we get out once we're done?
- "My presence should make a tear in the veil visible. All we have to do is find that tear and step inside."
Baron Dorell?
- Why go to all this trouble if I need your help to find him?
- "Hopefully, killing the shard carrier will release us from the veil. But it isn't like we have another choice. We have to eliminate this threat before more of our troops become afflicted by the blood-curse."
Countess Tamrith?
- Your gods aren't here to help you now.
- "I will not believe the dark creatures lies. The gods do not bless them. The gods bless us - the true, living, people of this world.
I made a mistake … but the gods prevail. I am still unturned!"
