The Red Palace in Karthwasten

Karthwasten is the largest city in the Reach and a historic center of trade. Though it suffered damage in the War of the Bend'r Mahk, today Karthwasten remains a wealthy and prosperous center of culture and commerce. Karthwasten is mostly inhabited by Nords and Redguards.

Jarl Jona of the Nord Fire-Hand clan legally rules Karthwasten from her seat at Dragonstar, but in practice the city is controlled by her Thane, Fomir. Fomir has sat in the Red Palace with King Barda's support since the tense resolution to the Second Siege of Karthwasten.

Before the War of the Bend'r Mahk Karthwasten belonged to Hammerfell and was led by the Utei of the Tomba that inhabited Karthwasten, many Redguards aren't happy that the throne is seated by a Nord now. There exists secret agents of the Sogat Dur-Gada that are plotting something in Karthwasten.

Red PalaceEdit

The Red Palace can be found in the middle of Karthwasten, from here Karthwasten is being rules by Thane Fomir and Prince Alrod. The area around the Red Palace is populated with merchants and nobles and just north-east of the Red Palace is the Dancing Saber Inn.

Commercial DistrictEdit

The commercial district can be found just west of the Red Palace, there are a lot of different shops here. The most notable shops are Eancor enchanter's store and Rianard Yverne's alchemist store. In the town square the Great Bazaar can be found, with all kinds of traders.

The OutskirtsEdit

The outskirts are found in the north-west of Karthwasten and is were all poor people live, it exist of some small shacks and dirt roads. At the beginning of the slums the Droopy Mare Inn can be found, which is the Karthwasten headquarters of the Skyrim Thieves Guild

PeopleEdit

The most prominent figures in Karthwasten are Thane Fomir the Voiceful and Prince Alrod, who can be found in the Red Palace. You can find the leader of the Skyrim Fighters Guild, Geod Entoriane, in the Guild of Fighters and the leader of the Skyrim Mages Guild, Ji'Tavarad in the Guild of Mages.

Dorolf Boar-Bark of the Boar Snout Clan and Rolic Gilded-Shield can be found in their respective manors just out of town.

Hadnar White-Wind is the captain of the guard, he can be found in the City Barracks, and Dada-Dar is the priest at the Imperial Cult. Dari is the publican of the Ruby Drake Inn and the merchant Ildos Norvor can be found in his house next to the Guild of Fighters.

Getting There and AroundEdit

After exiting Karthwasten from the north gate you will pass the Karthwasten Stables on your left side, from here Aurius Jaronich runs a carriage route to Dragonstar. If you keep going north after exiting the north gate and turn left before crossing the bridge, you will reach the Karthwasten Docks, here you can talk to Bronding Wind-Catcher for a boat to Ebonheart or you can talk to Haldine for a boat to the Vorndgad Forest Region, just outside of Karthgad.

Places of Interest Around KarthwastenEdit

To the north of Karthwasten you'll find the Boar Snout Clan Manor. The Gilded-Shield Manor can be found just east of the city, though you'll get there by exiting through the southern gate and then follow the road east.

Outside the eastern gate you can find the farmlands.

NotesEdit

  • Karthwasten originally appeared in Arena and reappears in Skyrim and ESO. However, compared to their appearances in the latter games, Karthwasten's location in Project Tamriel is swapped with Markarth's, as it was in Arena.
