Stupid Image QuestionsEdit
Hey, I was wondering if you knew whether there are any restrictions regarding how and what images are used on Lore pages. I tend to shy away from using screencaps (though not all the time). More to the point, I'm wondering if there are any issues with setting image sizes. I view thumbnails at the site max of 300px, thus I generally mold the text of the page around those larger images. This often ends of looking a little weird, because the site default seems to be 100px, thus the text on the page sometimes appears differently than what I planned (example: look at the Dagoth Ur page with default 100px images versus my sandbox of how it should've looked with 300px). I just want to make sure there are no obscure and conflicting site policies before I go back and fix the sizes of images on pages I've worked on. Minor Edits 21:10, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- If you don't mind me sticking my nose in here: might I suggest that this be moved to the CP as part of a wider discussion on image sizing? The default image size is anachronistic these days. 100px isn't an image, it's an icon. It's not just you having this problem in Lore - I know Krusty and others have had the same problem with the OBNPCRP. The simple fact is that MediaWiki hasn't really kept up with increasing screen resolutions. rpeh •T•C•E• 21:18, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

- I don't mind this being move to the Community Portal, as I'm not sure myself. I think larger images look better, and I'm never hesitant to use screenshots in lorespace, but other than that I can't contribute much input. --Legoless 21:37, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
AchievementsEdit
I was wondering if you planned on adding the PS3 trophies to the articles as well? The trophies are the same as the achievements on the PS3, and I find it pretty odd that the PS3 is being completely ignored. (Even so, I am not sure they belong on all the pages.) elliot (talk) 01:37, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- Are you talking about Oblivion? I wasn't aware that there were trophies available for the PS3 version. --Legoless 15:17, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Nord lore pageEdit
About that sentence you corrected about Nords taking back Solstheim, do you know what the source is for it? Is it an Oblivion rumor? I think I took it from the Solstheim page, but there was no cite provided. Minor Edits 20:39, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's an Oblivion rumour. Something about the Nords attempting to take "the whole of Solstheim", although I don't have a direct quote. --Legoless 20:40, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

- "There are rumors that the Nords are attempting to capture the whole of Solstheim and remove the Imperial fort on the island". I think that's the one you mean.RIM 20:45, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

I've just been looking at this map that you marked for cleanup, but I can't see what's wrong with it. I dare say I'm missing something obvious, but I'd be grateful if you could enlighten me so I can fix it. rpeh •T•C•E• 15:23, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Bit of Dialogue?Edit
Hey Legoless! Just another of my usual dialogue-condition questions, this time regarding Jollring. He has two lines that I'm unable to trigger in-game:
- My master is not available at the moment. Perhaps you can call again another day.
- If you'll just follow me, I will take you directly to my master.
None of them incredibly interesting and/or important, but the page will be incomplete IF they appear in the game. Could you check the conditions? Thanks in advance! --Krusty 18:42, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- I'll check.
- My master is not available at the moment. Perhaps you can call again another day. - Umbacano Topic: The only 2 checks are that it is Jollring speaking, and that Umbacano is not in any of the Manor cells.
- If you'll just follow me, I will take you directly to my master. - Greeting: This one also checks two, that it is Jollring speaking, and that his current package is escorting the player to Umbacano. I would assume that this is used if you speak to him after telling him to take you to Umbacano.

Hannibal TravenEdit
I have completed all the dialogue for Traven. All I need is a verification in the rumors section and to add images. Could you help with either of these? Once images are added, Traven can finally be published. --Manic 13:56, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
- I can check info and conditions in the CS, but I don't have access to the game and I'm no good with screenshots. What do you need me to do? --Legoless 13:59, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

- If you scroll down on the sandbox16, you will see a section of rumors that 'Traven says with a verification tag. If you know of any other NPC that says the rumor, remove it. Just them few rumors under what traven says. Cheers. --Manic 14:05, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Good CatchEdit
Thanks for noticing that this note was already on the Easter Egg page. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 21:34, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- It's been removed a few times before, so maybe we should eventually add a link to the Easter egg page directly to (hopefully) avoid any more poorly constructed notes. --Legoless 21:43, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- I was thinking the same thing. The info has been added so many times we might as well throw in the towel and add it, along with the Jack Be Nimble nursery rhyme; otherwise, we'll have to revert this info indefinitely. --Krusty 21:50, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

- My edit summary said "news coverage". Those two videos are just G4TV talking about new footage and such. If you look at the other videos on the pre-release article, you'll notice that they're all official videos released by Bethesda. There's no point linking to every video on the web which mentions something about Skyrim. Skyrim M'aiq ImageEdit
I did realize afterwards that it hadn't been prodded and that it was an incorrect file name that had been prodded. But, going by what was said on the images talk page, it seems to be taken for a video that has since been removed. I was unsure whether the image should of been added back in after I removed it or whether it would be deleted because of it's origins. --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 13:53, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Undead SkeletonEdit
He Legoless. Why is necessary to mention the fact that it is an undead skeleton? Skeletons have always been undead, and I don't see such redundancy on Oblivion or Morrowind Skeleton articles. Mentioning it seems a bit out of place, especially when considering the header 'Undead'. Wolok gro-Barok 22:43, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- I believe he's trying to emphasize the fact it is not a "real" skeleton, as in lifeless bones. But I'd probably have to agree with you Wolok ~ Dwarfmp 22:53, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
-
- (edit conflict) I can see your reasoning, but I think it's better to state that the skeleton is undead, given the ambiguity of the word when put into normal context. For example, see Morrowind:Skeletal Corpse or any of these skeletons. It's not a completely necessary distinction, but I'd prefer to spell it out in the Skyrim namesapce than risk redundancy due to the heading. --Legoless 22:58, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

- Also, undead skeletons are different to reanimated skeletons. Plus, people may confuse them with draugr. Either way it makes little difference, once skyrim comes out most of the stuff will be completely re-written.RIM 23:00, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- I see your side of the argument, but I still very much prefer the caption 'skeleton'. That is always correct, dead or alive. I hardly think people will get confused by that. The way it is now will likely confuse more readers. Wolok gro-Barok 23:08, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Dawnstar article imageEdit
Hi, The reason I reverted the article image was that I only saw a stretched version of the older screenshot in the article. I only saw the new screenshot (without HUD) after I'd already reverted it. I know my screenies aren't top notch, but they're better than having no image at all. Also thanks for the warm welcome!

Old Ebonheart/Ebonheart ArticlesEdit
Hello Legoless, I've just added a comment to the talk page of Ebonheart in regards to the out-of-game reference. If you could take a look at what I have to say and approve of it before I go and change something that you have there for a reason. The change would apply to both the Lore page of Ebonheart and the Morrowind page of Ebonheart. Prehaps it's just an oversight, but I noticed it and thought it would be appropiate to change it, see what you think. Thanks, —J'Dazrah 14:18, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Music - SongEdit
I worked hours (12 specifically) listening to it over and over and comparing the sounds to the Dragon Language page getting that song down pat and even broke it into the phonetic sounds so other could follow it easier only to have it removed. Since the poem is released on UESP and I even linked that page, I don't think there are any copyright issues. May I ask why? I'll watch this page for an answer. Image NamingEdit
It seems I've been under the wrong impression that the ID code for Skyrim was SK, and not SR. This has caused me to upload a few images not following the standard. I noticed you moved one of my images, so I wanted to ask you how to fix the rest, as I do not seem to have the permission to move files. --Aezay 23:48, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- Only patrollers and up can move images, I think. I wouldn't worry too much about moving them manually; it's not a big deal, and I'm sure a bot will do it eventually. In any case, great work on the images! --Legoless 00:02, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Torture time!Edit
Hey Lego! Just saw your images of the treasure chest locations and wanted to point you towards the quest page I created for the very same objective. Maybe we can get a good objective page out of it? --Krusty 17:31, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- I was looking for that. Will we take it to sandbox, or just expand it at the current article? --Legoless 17:44, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

- I can't quite remember who owns which cache, although I'm fairly certain the current captions are correct. If you could check which one the old woman points to, we could clear this up, but I have the save myself so you're in no hurry. --Legoless 17:52, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

- You are indeed correct about the old woman's cache (the hollowed-out tree stump on the island), so it should be a simple matter of moving the images to the quest page and add a bit of description? --Krusty 21:39, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

- Sounds perfect, although I worry that we still don't have a worthy quest image. The four I uploaded would be better suited to be in the main text or in a gallery. Maybe an image of the torture chamber would do? --Legoless 23:32, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah; I noticed you can create images these days, yes? Looking at the torture chamber, it seems a but tricky to get every victim in a 4:3 shot (best angle seems to be from atop the stretch-bed in the corner), but I'll leave that to you. Oh, and while you're there - why not shoot a square image for each of them, for the NPC page? Other than that, I plan on extracting their dialogue so we can get four different sections on the page, along with an image of the treasure location. At least that's my idea. :) --Krusty 23:49, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

(←) Okay, I have drafted something here. It's not pleasant, but I think it will work out fine. As of now, it needs 4:3 images of all four torture victims, captions for the location images and some kind of explanatory text on top. We'll have to wait with the map links, but I think it can be quite sick. Wonder what it is with Beth and marriages? Anyway, feel free to add whatever you think is appropriate/necessary. :) --Krusty 10:29, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
- I've uploaded 4:3 images of the victims (didn't square them for the NPC pages, though) and I have two possible images for the quest page: one which I will add to the sandbox, and a place image. Which do you think would work best? --Legoless 20:34, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
- Definitely the version you added to the page - it's a bit more.... "questy"? Now, all we need is some kind of introductory text and maybe (just maybe) a written explanation on the four locations, not that it is all that necessary, but I think it would be good to separate the images somehow and make a walkthrough out of it. I'll see what I can come up with. Anyhow, feel more than free to add all what you can think of. I've never even tried to kill the victims, so a few more facts would be welcome. Starting tomorrow, I'll be working around the clock, but I'll try and work on it in the evenings. Looks good!! --Krusty 23:07, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

-
- You can kill the victims without issue, I think, although if you haven't gotten the quest update then you obviously can't get the treasure. Although, that poses an interesting question. Can the caches be found and looted without talking to the victims? Even before buying the upgrade or joining the faction? We'll need to check that out, as the levelled gold inside can be quite substantial, and written guides to the locations would become essential for the page. --Legoless 23:24, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

- Okay, all questions answered (I hope), with some help from RIM and some extensive testing. Can you take a look and see what you think? I've tried to come up with some kind of layout, but Wiki format is not always our friend. Elliot made a suggestion here and while the first table looks fine, the second table is a bit out of control and we can't really figure out what to do. No nonsenseEdit
It wasn't nonsense. The "instructions" given at darnified.net are, in fact, completely useless to anyone who is not familiar with Wrye Bash. There is no explanation on where to even find that "Tweak Assorted" feature, or which entry to select from the mod list. Heck, the latest Wrye Bash (295.2) apparently doesn't even have that coveted Rebuild Patch function, other than a "CBash (BETA)" one which results in an error message when selected for the "Bashed Patch, 0.esp" entry (which I am guessing is the entry to select).
Here are the full instructions from darnified.net, just for reference:
1. Right-click the Bashed Patch, select "Rebuild Patch".
2. Check "Tweak Assorted->DarNified Books" (make sure both are selected).
3. Hit OK.
That's the basic procedure.

- Accurate or not, adding a contradiction to the article isn't helpful. If the tutorial isn't good, why link to it at all? It might help someone. Although if you want the tutorial removed or noted to be obscure you should bring it up on the article's talk page first. --Legoless 19:32, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
- Is this Wikipedia, or what? On WP, referring someone to the talk page roughly equals telling them to go to hell (speaking from personal experience from both sides of that particular fence). Seriously though, I get your point. The best solution I can think of would be to create a new and proper tutorial and to include it e.g. at Tes4Mod:Wrye Bash/Bashed_Patch#How do I DarNify books? That would be grand, and I may do it -- as soon as I figure out just how the heck to DarNify the books. --87.79.211.72 19:39, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
- However, please also note that Tes4Mod space is no stranger to contradictions, even multiple back and forth. --87.79.211.72 19:57, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

- As a small update (and to hopefully turn this from a generic nerdraging IP thread to something more interesting): I've asked at TexNexus about my installation problem with Wrye Bash / DarNified Books, and it appears that the current version is plagued by unicode errors, which they are currently working to sort out for the upcoming version. With re: to above ranting and my edit, the main problem is just that a few Tes4Mod pages are in dire shape, full of inaccuracies and omissions, and sometimes badly structured to boot. Imho, pages that fall below a certain threshold of usefulness and general appeal should be weeded out. Having been active at WP for several years, their attitude of "inclusionism" and "incremental improvement" even for the most spurious and recent media buzzes has been bugging for a while, because more often than not, half-finished articles end up lying dormant for years after an initial flurry of edits. (Though the page I edited is not an example, it's quite ok actually.) --87.79.215.54 08:21, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

- A lot of the pages in the modding namespaces are unfinished or outdated, and a few have been deleted before because of this. A less esoteric example was the recent deletion of the entire section covering the "Midas Magic" mod for Oblivion. If you feel a page/section needs to be deleted, feel free to propose it for deletion review (although you may need to register an account to do so). Personally, I don't care for modspace or its preservation, nor do I have much knowledge on the subject. However, several external sites link to the wiki pages, and deleting them may cause problems (for example, the Midas Magic FAQ was hosted on the wiki and we received some complaints from TesNexus users when it was removed). --Legoless 15:42, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Lore House TelvanniEdit
I am not much of a Lore transclusion expert, but I think I fixed some problems in Lore:House Telvanni. In the transclusion to Morrowind, there was a dangling paragraph which did not make much sense with the preceding one missing. There was also a reference to the Morrowind page, which should not have appeared on the page itself. Please check it over and make sure I have not broken something else. --Brf 13:27, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Looks good. I've moved the noinclude tags around a bit to remove the bottom paragraph about the Fourth Era and to add on some excluded Morrowind-related text. This should work fine for now, but I don't always see a transclusion working for the Morrowind article, as the lore page will eventually need to be rewritten in the past tense (as well as cleaned up in general). When that happens, it would probably be safe to move the current transcluded text onto the Morrowind article. --Legoless 13:46, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Chronological Order of Talk PagesEdit
Do you have a reference saying, that talk pages have to be in chronological order? New topics should be added in chronological order. But like new additions are sorted after that by topic and not by date, it is perfectly valid to reply to some sub-point out of order to make it clear what the reply refers to. It is quite common to insert deeper indented replies at a later point, the date of the reply is visible in the signature anyway. See [1] for some examples. --Alfwyn 16:50, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- I've never seen it being done on the wiki before, and it makes it less confusing to have comments in order of reply. But I suppose if Wikipedia does it, who am I to argue? --Legoless 17:36, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
-
- Just to second Alfwyn's point, it's not common, but it is done. Typically, it'll be done where you're responding to a very specific point that someone made, and usually it'll be indented an extra level or bulleted or something similar, just to make it clear that it's an inserted reply instead of a chronological one. – Robin Hood↝talk 17:40, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
