Quest-Related DialogueEdit

From the AshesEdit

When you first pay a visit to Tel Mithryn, you will find Varona in the center of the settlement engaged in conversation with Talvas Fathryon. Varona is obviously concerned about Talvas' conjuration experiments and countless attempts to summon an ash guardian, and she will try to get Talvas to act responsibly, with little luck. The dialogue will differ slightly if Neloth is in Raven Rock as part of the quest Dragonborn:

"It's on your head if something goes wrong."

Varona: "Why are you out here? Aren't you supposed to be in the tower assisting Master Neloth?" OR "Why are you out here? Master Neloth is away. Aren't you supposed to stay in the tower?"
Talvas; "If you must know, I'm trying to get this Ash Guardian spell to work. Now let me concentrate. Besides, shouldn't you be worrying about the damage to the tower?"
Varona: "Master Neloth has tasked Elynea with repairing the tower. Why aren't you doing this in the lab, where it would be safer for all of us?"
Talvas: "The, uh... the lab is too small. Also, I need the ashy soil. Master Neloth knows what I'm doing. No need to bother him about it though. He's quite busy at the moment." OR "The, uh... the lab is too small. Also, I need the ashy soil. Master Neloth told me to practice this spell while he's away. No need to tell him about it when he gets back. He knows all about this."
Varona: "It's on your head if something goes wrong. Just let me get back inside first."

Speaking to him:

"I don't think you belong here. Does Master Neloth know about you?"
Are you practicing a spell?
"Yes. I'm trying to summon an Ash Guardian. I'm just having trouble deciphering Master Neloth's handwriting. I don't mean to be rude, but I need to concentrate."
What is this place?
"This is Master Neloth's tower. He's a Telvanni Wizard."
Telvanni? What are the Telvanni?
"You've never heard of the great houses of Morrowind? House Telvanni is the house of the master wizard, one of the ruling houses of Morrowind. Master Neloth is one of the oldest and most respected members of House Telvanni."
Do you work with Neloth?
"Not so much with, as for. I am Master Neloth's apprentice. He's teaching me the art of sorcery."
Is Master Neloth a good teacher?
"Um. Well, he is a very great wizard. It's a great honor for him to have taken me as his apprentice. To be honest, it's horrible. He's very unpleasant and hardly teaches me anything. Sometimes he uses me in his experiments. Even so, I pick up a lot from just watching him."

After entering and leaving Tel Mithryn, he will run up to you outside and say:

"You've got to help me! I conjured an Ash Guardian and now it's running amok."
I can destroy it for you.
"Thank you! I was hoping you would. Hurry. I'll keep Master Neloth distracted."
How did the Ash Guardian get loose?
"I am embarrassed to admit that it was my fault. Master Neloth refused to teach me the Ash Guardian spell. So I read his spell book on my own and learned it. Something went wrong when I cast it. The creature is attacking everything in sight."
Why don't you destroy it?
"I need to keep Master Neloth distracted so he doesn't find out what I did. There is no telling what he would do to me. While you are taking care of the creature, I'll try to figure out what went wrong. I, uh... I'm going to be reading the spell book. Maybe it can tell me how to banish the Ash Guardian."
It's your mess. You clean it up.
"You won't help me!? Master Neloth is going to kill me. Assuming he doesn't make me into a test subject again."

Once the ash guardian is killed he can say three lines:

"Have you destroyed the Ash Guardian yet? Master Neloth will kill me... or worse... if he finds out!"
"Is it done? Is the Ash Guardian gone?"
"Have you dealt with the Ash Guardian?"

You can reply with:

I've destroyed the Ash Guardian.
"What a relief. Master Neloth surely would have punished me had he found out. I don't have any gold to pay you with, but I can give you this staff."

DialogueEdit

His greetings:

"Dragons. Master Neloth says they are no match for a Telvanni wizard. But what about a mere apprentice?"
"One day I'll inherit his power. It will all be mine. Mark my words."
"He never sleeps. I don't know how he does it, but he never rests for even a moment."
"Sometimes being Master Neloth's apprentice is...painful."
"Master Neloth was furious when the tower withered. It just seemed to happen overnight."
"Thank you for keeping that matter of the Ash Guardian just between us. I shudder to think what would happen if Master Neloth had found out."
"Somehow Master Neloth found out about the Ash Guardian. I'm terrified of what he's going to do."
"Those poor spriggans. Ever since you healed the tower, Master Neloth has been experimenting on them."
"Give me a moment. I still have flashback from when Master Neloth changed you."
"It's nice to see a friendly face around here. Everyone else can be so grumpy."
"That whole thing with the standing stone was very odd. I'd just as soon forget about it."
"Shh! Master Neloth is concentrating. At least I think he is. He might be sleeping with his eyes open again."

Near the spriggan he can say:

"Spriggans. Ugh."

ConversationsEdit

Neloth and his apprentice, Talvas Fathryon, occasionally partake in several brief conversations that can be heard when visiting Tel Mithryn. They typically result in Neloth berating his apprentice for one reason or another.

Neloth: "Did you fill those soul gems like I asked you?"

Talvas: "Yes, master. Although the grand soul gem only has a common soul in it."

Neloth: "Idiot! Those are hard to find. Next time don't fill it at all if you can't do it properly."

"Did you fill those soul gems like I asked you?"
Talvas: "Master, you promised to teach me a new conjuration spell."

Neloth: "That was before you ruined that staff. Fix the staff and I'll teach you the spell."

Talvas: "Yes, master. Thank you, master. I'll fix it right away."

"Your enchanting has improved despite your best efforts."
Neloth: "Your enchanting has improved despite your best efforts."

Talvas: "Thank you, master. It's all because of your brilliant teaching."
Neloth: "Don't think your false flattery will work on me, Talvas. You're still going to give me that skin sample."

Talvas: "Yes, master."
Talvas: "I've prepared the staff maker like you asked."

Neloth: "Good, good. As soon as I'm done here, I'll try it out."
Talvas: "May I keep this one, master?"

Neloth: "We'll see. If the power levels aren't too high you may have it."

NotesEdit

  • Talvas' store and training are only accessible while within the Tel Mithryn area. His store becomes unavailable outside the area as his merchant chest is static and required for trade.
  • Talvas' store contains an extensive collection of standard Destruction and Conjuration spell tomes, as well as tomes for additional spells added by the Dragonborn add-on.
  • Talvas is unique among followers since his level is set to 25, which makes him very valuable for low level characters. His services can be acquired directly from level 1, though getting through his quest might be a challenge at that point.

BugsEdit

  • As a trainer in Conjuration and a follower, it is possible to receive 'free' training by taking the gold paid for the training from his inventory.
  • Talvas' merchant inventory may be replaced with items given to him by you while he is a follower. Waiting for this stock to reset may not resolve this problem. ?
    • One possible solution is to dismiss him, hire another follower, and return to Talvas after his stock has had time to reset.
  • When first meeting him and you ask "Are you practicing a spell?", he is supposed to reply, "Yes. I'm trying to summon an Ash Guardian. I'm just having trouble deciphering Master Neloth's handwriting. I don't mean to be rude, but I need to concentrate." However, the middle sentence has a tendency to not be played, so what you hear instead (and what is also displayed in subtitles) is: "Yes. I'm trying to summon an Ash Guardian. I don't mean to be rude, but I need to concentrate." ?
