Skyrim talk:Miraak (person)
LeveledEdit
I've stated this in the talk page of the TES Wiki, but I'm 99% sure that Miraak's mask is a leveled item. I just saw two different LPs, one where the player was around level 31 and another at level 81. The mask at the former level buffed Magicka by 50 points, while the mask at level 81 increased it by 70.
Name MeaningEdit
Mir aak means Allegiance guide. I think that is the likely meaning of the name (Given he was taking over peoples minds, ie, gaining their allegiance. Jeancey (talk) 23:12, 7 December 2012 (GMT)
race?Edit
Has nobody taken off his mask to look at his corpse? --68.230.66.230 14:20, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
- He disintegrates when he dies, if I remember correctly. He's referred to on this site as a dragon priest, but he may be classed differently within the game data itself. LoftedAphid86⚕ 14:28, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
- He is actually turned into a skeleton, but the point is we never have the opportunity to take his mask off. Furthermore, he may be a Dragon Priest, but nothing about the character is similar to the other Dragon Priests we fight in the game, which are all considered undead creatures. He appears to be an NPC, but there's no way to discover his race in-game. It's also possible he's a unique creature. LoveWaffle (talk) 04:11, 9 December 2012 (GMT)
- There are several NPC versions called Miraak in the game data, most of them plain Nord. The version encountered in the final quest has the DLC2MiraakRace. The full name of that race is "Nord" too, and it is in may aspects similar to the original Nord race. --Alfwyn (talk) 13:22, 10 December 2012 (GMT)
- So, since his mask is also called "Miraak", this page should be moved to "Miraak (NPC)", right? LoveWaffle (talk) 19:39, 10 December 2012 (GMT)

- So, let's talk about the real that Wuuthrad [Its primary effect is causing 1.2x damage to elves, namely Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer, and Falmer] WORKS 1.2 damage with Miraak. So, he's an elf. Hidden basic datas ? Miraak does NOT appear like others nordics characters. He's different. DLC2MiraakRace =/= original nord race. It facilitated the programming like that. — Unsigned comment by 79.88.244.70 (talk) at 10:49 on 11 December 2012
- First off there is no way to confirm that Wuuthrad is doing anything of the sort as Dragonborn is only on the Xbox 360 at this time and therefore again this is just your opinion that Wuuthrad is doing its bonus damage. Also Wuuthrads effect looks for a specific flag on the NPC/Creatures script that doesn't actually have anything to do with the race information. Similar to how Wabbajack looks for the "Can be Wabbajacked" info to confirm that it is allowed to work. Miraak could simply have the Wuuthrad version of this turned on for unknown reasons. Perhaps when CK data is available we'll be able to learn more, but for now, anything that goes on the page has to be backed up by data and/or repeatable testing. ⇠eshetalk 18:30, 11 December 2012 (GMT)

This guy is beyond annoying stealing my hard earned dragon souls!Edit
It doesn't matter if you kill the dragon in Skyrim or Solstein, he will steal the soul and gloat.--67.185.108.121 09:36, 11 December 2012 (GMT)
- Yeah it's not 100% of the time... more like 75% but it is indeed annoying... odds seem to be more in your favor if you have words you've yet to unlock... but *SPOILER* When you kill him at the end of the main questline you get back the souls he stole plus some extras. - That's the nature of "random". I've killed probably 10 dragons since the Temple of Miraak, and Miraak's only stolen 1 or 2. You can't judge the odds of something based on such a small sample. Kill 100 dragons and see how many are stolen, and you will be approaching a more realistic approximation of the odds. The info in the article is directly taken from game data. ChantEdit
Couldn't find the chant recorded anywhere on the site, so I put it here on Miraak's NPC page for now, figure there should be a record of it somewhere until a decent 'Lore' page gets made, if ever.--Grieves (talk) 01:58, 16 December 2012 (GMT)
- I see a slightly different version of that chant, apparently Miraak can speak that into the players head:
- Here in my temple.
- Here in my shrine.
- That you have forgotten.
- Here do you toil.
- That you might remember.
- Here you reclaim.
- What faithless minds have stolen.
- Far from yourself.
- I grow ever nearer to you.
- Your eyes once were blinded.
- Now through me do you see.
- Your hands once were idle.
- Now through them do I speak.
- And when the world shall listen.
- And when the World shall see.
- And when the world remembers.
- That world will cease to be.

Miraak's dragon-killing shoutEdit
Appears to be 4 words, Zii Los Dii Du (Spirit Is Mine Devour, from the Lore:Dragon Language page). In-game subtitles say "Ziil Los Dii Du" though. --24.92.180.9 10:57, 20 December 2012 (GMT)
- Yeah, that's intentional. From the above-linked article: To indicate singular possession—as in "my", "your", "his", or "her"—the letter "i" is added to the end of the word, except when the word ends in "ii", in which case an "l" is appended. Miraak is saying that it's the dragon's spirit specifically that he's about to chow down on. -Technogeek (talk) 22:10, 23 December 2012 (GMT)
- This shout is in the CK, and has an effect called "DLC2MiraakFakeShoutEffect", which in turn has a script called "DLC2MQ06FakeDragonKillEffectScript". I wasn't able to call up the script, as my CK skills are weak, but this seems to be the shout he uses during "At the Summit of Apocrypha" to kill his companion dragons and heal himself. --Xyzzy Talk 18:03, 11 August 2013 (GMT)
- You've got that exactly right, Xyzzy. I traced through the script and that's mostly what it does. There's some other housekeeping stuff in there as well that I don't fully understand, but the gist of it seems to be to run through the scene and get everyone doing what they're supposed to do.

Miraak won't absorb souls?Edit
I've seen people posting about issues with Miraak in the final fight, but this one I've noticed doesn't just apply to that quest. Rather than him absorbing the souls from my killed dragons, he just doesn't do anything regarding soul-absorbing at all. Outside of the final fight with him, the dragon just lies there after death. He won't appear to steal the soul, and I won't absorb it, either. In the final fight, he'll kill the first dragon, and it will do the same thing. Lay there, with no one absorbing the soul. Which leaves him ethereal and me unable to finish the quest. I've tried the suggestions listed on his page and the quest's page regarding the final fight and I still have the same issue. I also killed several dragons outside of Apocrypha to test if it was just in the final battle or not, and the results are the same. Miraak just won't absorb souls, and I'm not getting them, either. So I'm left with a dragon body and a DLC I can't finish. Anyone got any ideas on something I could try to fix this? --TheAxrat (talk) 13:48, 6 February 2013 (GMT)
- Are you using Dragon Soul Absorb More Glorious or the Unofficial Skyrim Patch? If so, then un-check it for now. DSAMG relies on the old DragonActorScript.pex file which gets over-written by Dragonborn, while the USKP tries to patch the same file, which it cannot do with it being over-written. --Shadeseven (talk) 16:11, 6 February 2013 (GMT)
-
- As it turns out, I did have the Unofficial Skyrim Patch installed. Disabling it did fix the issue I was having with Miraak not absorbing souls, but somehow brought about a new issue of my character not following the dragon when riding. In the end, I reinstalled the USKP and then installed the Unofficial Dragonborn Patch, and I was able to progress through the quest as intended. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. --TheAxrat (talk) 14:13, 7 February 2013 (GMT)

SpeechEdit
When you meet him at the summit of apocrypha he hold a speech I can't remeber it exactly but the speech should be added to this page. It's like this: so the first dragonborn meets the last dragonborn at the summit of apocrypha no doubt exactly as Hermeaus Mora intended. He is a fickle master you know when i kill you i will absorb your soul and return to soltheim and be free of him. — Unsigned comment by 82.73.72.148 (talk) at 21:08 on 14 February 2013
- Dialogue sections usually aren't a crucial addition to an NPC's page but if anyone decides to start working on Miraak's dialogue, they can feel free to add a Quest-Related Events section like the one shown here. Obviously, Miraak's would be much shorter but as you can see, such sections tend to be quite accurate/thorough. --BlackhawkXIII (talk) 00:17, 15 February 2013 (GMT)

Miraaks Potential LevelEdit
Now i understand he's tied with Arngeir as level 150, but how can he reach that level when his level is tied to the PC's making his level at the maximum 89.1 without mods, So i don't see why it's worth mentioning that he can be as powerful as Arngeir because he can't be that powerful, without mods. NotesEdit
Some of the notes on the page probably should be removed. For instance, the fact that Miraak "may have" created his own shouts. Absent some insinuation in dialogue, this seems entirely speculative. And while some may find interesting that his name is similar to portal in the dragon language, I don't think it's really noteworthy. Minor EditsThreats•Evidence 20:20, 4 April 2013 (GMT)
Miraak Glitch Fix (Final Battle) Dragon soul issueEdit
I found a workaround for the glitch when miraak won't heal fully during final battle.
Step by step guide:
1) Get him to absorb the first dragons soul.
2) Get on Sahlokniir (the tame dragon) and fly up to fight the second dragon.
3) Kill the second dragon (using DragonRend the killing him whilst near Miraak works also).
4) Kill Sahlokniir Near Miraak (not necessary but guarentees success)
5) kill Miraak
He will then turn ethereal and whirlwind sprint into the clutches of Hermaes Mora and the quest will finish like normal.
I HAVE PERSONALLY CONFIRMED THIS ON PS3, X-Box (no mods or hax) and PC (again no mods or hax)
This really need to be posted aroun the Internet as a lot of people are having issues with this glitch and this is a perfect workaround with a 100% success rate as long as you follow these steps.
Thanks for reading (or perhaps you should thank me?) KingK (talk) 22:49, 24 April 2013 (GMT)
- None of this worked for me. He glitched getting the first Dragon soul. I tried the 'resurrect 1', 'resethealth', and killing Sahlokniir. The console commands did nothing and when Sahlokniir died, he didn't decompose but I was able to loot him. Unfortunately, I didn't save anything so I'll have to trust in Autosave and start the whole thing again. 98.119.116.9 03:20, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

- EDIT: I nearly gave up on the game. I just got the DB patch after being away from Skyrim for a long time and this bug nearly had me leaving the game. None of these fine suggestions were working for me. What did work was when I check the load order for the Unofficial patches. It seems that when I installed the Unofficial DB patch, Steam put it above the Skyrim patch. A change in the load order so that the Skyrim patch comes first fixed the entire thing. 98.119.116.9 09:19, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Miraak to the rescueEdit
Well, this was quite a shock. After an ancient dragon was wounded and crash-landed on the hill above Raven Rock, I went up there, got the soul, and stripped the dragon of its bones and other bling. However, when about to go down the hill to return, I was jumped by a pack of snow bears (not, to the best of my knowledge, were-bears), who gave me an interesting time since I was in traveling mode and only had an unenchanted sword with me. I used the shout Dragon Aspect, of which I had the first two words, to reinforce my armor, and was in the process of hacking myself out of the circling bears when none other than Miraak showed up to lend a hand. At least I think it was him; whoever it was was in full Dragon Aspect mode and was able to floor a bear in a couple of slashes from his weapon. After all the bears were dead, he disappeared. Wot the....? 174.6.51.17 04:41, 29 April 2013 (GMT)
- On further consideration, I think it's most likely that this "Miraak" was actually me, and that the camera had pulled into third person for a kill animation. It didn't look much like a kill animation, though; no drama. 174.6.51.17 04:44, 29 April 2013 (GMT)

Rieklings attacking Miraak?Edit
So I just killed a dragon, and there were some rieklings around. Miraak showed up to steal my soul, and the rieklings... seemed to try to attack him. Of course it didn't do anything, and when he disappeared they went back to normal.
But has anyone else seen that? Miraak appears, hostile creatures stop attacking you and go after Miraak instead? Was definitely odd. --Morrolan (talk) 04:08, 6 August 2013 (GMT)
- Neither Miraak nor Reiklings are members of the Creature faction, which the game normally uses to prevent different critters from attacking each other. If Miraak was a higher level than you when this occurred, then that would make the Reiklings likely to attack him instead of you, since they perceive him as the greater threat. --Xyzzy Talk 04:58, 6 August 2013 (GMT)

Vampiric Grip Ending the Fight EarlyEdit
I was fighting Miraak and used the Vampiric Grip ability on him after he killed Kruziikrel. He was immune to the pulling effect, but he still radiated an aura as if he were affected. When I brought him down again, he went ethereal, activated his whirlwind sprint, yet his body became corporeal after dropping into one of the side pools. His body was then dragged along the ground toward the center pool, where he was immediately killed by Hermaeus Mora. The other two dragons were still circling around in the sky, so I had to bring them down with the Bend Will shout before I could leave the area.
I don't know if this is a repeatable bug, or if it's because of the mods I have installed. Can anyone else reproduce this? Nnadeau (talk) 16:15, 26 September 2014 (GMT)

I'm starting the discussion here so as not to necropost on the above discussion. It looks like this will need some more in-game testing. Should I add a note to the page regarding this, or not? – Dragon Guard (talk) 17:30, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
- I don't know which "above discussion" you mean, I can't see anything at first glace, so I have no idea what you are actually talking about, but if it has anything to do with the "bug" you noted: Miraak is no elf, he's a nord lore-wise and a special race in game-mechanics, so why should wuuthrad be supposed to have any effect on him? -- SarthesArai Talk 19:00, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
- He's referring to the race? discussion. I just went over it in the Creation Kit and I have to agree with Alfwyn's findings in that discussion. There's nothing in the Creation Kit to suggest that Wuuthrad affects Miraak, and from the sounds of it, the person who claimed it did didn't really test the theory rigorously. In future, unless there's a compelling reason to re-open a closed discussion, it should generally remain closed. If you'd found evidence yourself that Wuuthrad worked on Miraak, for example, that would be a good reason. – Robin Hood (talk) 19:13, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
- Oh, I see... I've also imagined the word "not" being in the bug I've undone, so my reply may not make that much sense. I apologize. Still, an anon claiming wuuthrad does 1.2x damage against miraak (and even not stating compared to what), despite the evidence from the CK says otherwise, is nothing I would consider a "reliable source". -- SarthesArai Talk 20:06, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
- Maybe it only works on a PlayStation? Or a PC? I have an XBox to test it, so a PlayStation user to test it would be OK... I guess. – Dragon Guard (talk) 01:01, 29 December 2014 (GMT)
- And RH, with your part of "re-open a closed discussion", and you telling me that you think the anon post was probably a false statement and you don't believe it at all. Still, it may just be an unfound bug that only affects certain platforms. Who knows? – Dragon Guard (talk) 01:32, 29 December 2014 (GMT)
- So far, the only platform-specific bugs that have been confirmed are those that are UI-specific (e.g., certain button combinations performing unexpected actions) or game-engine coding not quite working the same between platforms. As far as I know, everything that has to do with the data itself, like Miraak's race in this case, has been found to be universal. That includes Oblivion as well. So is it possible that it's platform-specific? Could be. But with nearly 8+ years of nothing data-related having been platform-specific, it's probably safe to assume that it isn't platform-specific in this instance, either. – Robin Hood (talk) 02:51, 29 December 2014 (GMT)
- Let's wait until we've carried out some more tests. You don't try, you never find out. RH: maybe you try it on your PC and tell us what happens? – Dragon Guard (talk) 09:51, 29 December 2014 (GMT)

Shout timer?Edit
Are his shouts limited by a timer? I've noticed the Greybeards don't seem to be, nor do most NPCs who can shout. I find this kind of odd. — Unsigned comment by 65.185.145.37 (talk) at 13:59 on 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- I've noticed this too. It's worth investigating. – Dragon Guard (talk) 12:31, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

- I looked in the Creation Kit and discovered that Miraak has customized versions of each shout. The recovery times are significantly shortened, typically to 5 or 10 seconds, with a couple of exceptions. – Robin Hood (talk) 21:49, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

Technically Seven Words?Edit
Isn't Miraak's four word dragon killing shout technically seven words? What I mean is, why isn't the dragons name counted? MetaCthulhu (talk) 22:50, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
Battle DialogueEdit
During At the Summit of Apocrypha, contrary to what is shown on the page, the dialogue checks are not soley based on the # of dragons you have slain. Playing without mods and having killed fewer than 5 dragons, including Alduin, I heard Miraak say every single one of the dialgoue possabilities. Without going through the CK I cannot confirm if this is due to slaying ALduin despite not having enough dragonslaying or if the original information on the page is entirely incorrect. Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 05:50, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, you're absolutely right. It's actually based on the number of dragons he's killed during the fight. I've updated the table. – Robin Hood (talk) 06:06, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Strange skullEdit
While taking a new screenshot for Miraak's skeleton, I noticed his skull seems strange. I think it is unique in the game. Is it worth mentioning in the caption of the pic? Should we add some kind of remark about his strange anatomy on the lore page? Lunaramethyst (talk) 08:33, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
- this might be a better comment for the lore article since your proposed change is lore related, or the forums since this is definitely something that could lead to extended discussion. You're not wrong about his odd skeleton... Both his race and skeleton are unique and it may just be because of game mechanics or there might be an actual lore-friendly reason why. Vainamoinen -Talk -Stuff 10:05, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
NPCs upset when asked about him?Edit
I don't remember anyone asked about Miraak "become confused and mildly upset at the question and ask to end the conversation". Are there examples for that? --95.90.194.47 00:18, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- Super late... but Glover Mallory becomes upset and says "I don't want to talk about this." 73.87.137.195 17:42, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
MaskEdit
The article currently states that Miraak's mask was given to him by the dragons. Is this ever actually confirmed in the game? His mask is much more unique than the dragon priests established in the base game and has heavy Hermaeus Mora influences. In addition his three Acolyte Priests also have their own masks that are also more unique than the original dragon masks. Given the Konahrik mask exists but does not have a wearer it seems more likely that Miraak and the Acolyte Priests made their masks either in mockery of the dragons or as a show of strength. It seems unlikely that the dragons would give these four individuals more ornate masks. 82.132.237.202 18:57, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
