Throwing Weapons such as throwing stars, throwing knives, darts and others are frequently used across Tamriel and beyond.[1][2]
They are recognized as weapons for marksmen, renowned for their swift and rapid attacks.[3][4][2]
Assassins, such as the members of the Dark Brotherhood,[5] and Morag Tong,[6] often utilize thrown weapons such as throwing stars and throwing knives for their stealthy and surprising attacks.[7] House Hlaalu value agility, preferring swift combat in light armor engaging from a distance with ranged weapons when confrontation was inevitable.[8] Apart from them, marksmanship abilities are valued among Ashlander tribes, the vampiric Berne Clan, the Blades, Census and Excise, Camonna Tong, and the Thieves Guild.[9][10]
Varieties of thrown armsEdit
BolasEdit
A bola functions as a throwing weapon. Rieklings of the Coldsnap Tribe from Vault of Mhuvnak are known to use them.[11]
CaltropsEdit
Caltrops are projectiles known for their anti-cavalry properties. They were widely used during the Three Banners War.[12]
DartsEdit
Darts are crafted from various materials, including ebony, silver, and steel. Daedric,[1] Dwarven and spring darts were also in use.[13] The Carved Ebony Dart is a particularly valuable type favored by Dark Brotherhood assassins.[14]
Among the most lethal and valuable are the Darts of Judgment, exceptionally high-quality Bosmeri Daedric darts crafted in Valenwood.[15][16][17]
Although darts are frequently launched without supporting tools, they can be assisted by specialized projectile weapons.[1] An atlatl is a weapon specifically designed for hurling darts and similar projectiles.[18]
For the Nedes following the Cult of the Stars, the Lady constellation was associated with marksmanship, covering both bows and darts.[19]
Black Dart Gang is named for their adept use of very powerful throwing darts.[20][21][22]

Stones are occasionally used as simple projectiles.[23][24] A sling is a weapon specifically designed for hurling stones and similar projectiles.[25][26] Stone Atronachs use a "Stone Gaze" ability to fire rocks at their targets.[27] Xit-Xaht Stoneshapers use a form of magic to fire stones at targets.[28]
Throwing AxesEdit
Axes are utilized as thrown weapons in Tamriel,[29][30][UOL 1] particularly among the Bosmer and Orcs.[29][30]
Throwing KnivesEdit
Small thrown weapons, especially throwing knives or daggers are highly esteemed among the Khajiit,[2][31] known for their preference for agility over heavy weaponry and armor. This choice reflects their reliance on stealth and maneuverability in personal and clan combat situations.[2] Throwing knives were also part of the arsenal used by the Kothringi.[32] Materials employed in their crafting include malachite, iron, steel,[1] silver, and ebony. Daedric throwing knives also existed.[33] They are occasionally enchanted, with known enchantments including those that enhance the marksmanship abilities of the owner and those that inflict poison on the target.[34] Additionally, there are throwing knives associated with the obscure art of the shadow magic known as penumbric and shadow throwing knives.[33] Some penumbric knives are renowned for their exceptional balance and craftsmanship.[35]
Additionally, throwing knives are favored within certain criminal circles.[2]
Throwing StarsEdit
The throwing star is deemed an exotic weapon in Tamriel, and originated from the martial arts techniques of Akavir.[2] They were also relatively popular in Morrowind during the Third Era. Crafted from materials such as chitin, ebony, malachite, silver, and steel,[1] these are were frequently enchanted with diverse effects, including poison and elemental qualities like ice, fire and lightning.[34]
Azura's Star, while resembling a throwing star in appearance, is not intended for throwing.[36][nb 1]
