Do spouse follower's sell thier items?
I noticed while buying things from Brelyna Maryon that the items I gave her along with her wedding ring. Do I need to worry about her selling these items or do they just show up? — Unsigned comment by 50.81.154.95 (talk) at 14:30 on 29 February 2012
- As far as I can tell, if your spouse is a follower, all of your spouse's personal property (except for hidden items) shows up in the store. If you are not at home, and you talk to your follower spouse and ask to see the store, there's no connection to the merchant chest and you get a store with 0 gold that only sells the items your spouse follower is currently carrying. --99.245.236.172 04:46, 26 September 2012 (GMT)
- Though all of your spouse's inventory appears in the "sale" window, she only actually sells to you. The additional "merchant items" you see popping up are part of a package she gets as part of the "merchant chest" she gains when she's married, and it is randomly refreshed every couple days based on your level. The gear you gave her (including the ring and her starting goodies) is not in the merchant chest, it's in her personal inventory. It does not disappear. When you have her join you as a follower, she loses access to the merchant chest, home cooking and the daily gold, but you can then trade stuff with her for free. - I'm pretty sure that's true of ALL merchants. Whatever appears to be happening in the world, nobody ever actually sells anything to anyone except you. The gold from your spouse's "store" is just gold that gets automatically added to her inventory every day, and has nothing to do with her actually selling stuff. This can be proven by choosing a spouse who is a follower - they will still get money from the store every day despite being by your side the whole time and never interacting with anyone. - Just a note, a spouse follower doesn't automatically lose access to the merchant chest when following you. The spouse only loses access to the merchant chest when you take him/her away from home, wherever that might be. - I'm pretty sure that's true of ALL merchants. Whatever appears to be happening in the world, nobody ever actually sells anything to anyone except you. The gold from your spouse's "store" is just gold that gets automatically added to her inventory every day, and has nothing to do with her actually selling stuff. This can be proven by choosing a spouse who is a follower - they will still get money from the store every day despite being by your side the whole time and never interacting with anyone. Surprise gifts?
The page claims that spouses will sometimes "surprise you with a gift", but does not elaborate. Do all spouses do this? How rare is it? What kind of gifts are we talking about? I've never gotten anything but the "Home-cooked meal" or the gold from our "store", wherever that is. Then again, I married Lydia, who is both my housecarl and follower, so maybe you only get gifts from stay-at-home spouses? I've never tried that - getting the various spousal benefits wherever you go in the world is too useful to make it worth marrying anyone who isn't a follower, but maybe that's how they balance it out? - Well, gee, now I feel mildly insulted that she hasn't gotten me anything. Come to think of it, I don't think I've gotten a gift from anyone, though there are many people who like me. I do tend to spend more of my time out in the wilderness though, so maybe I don't interact with NPCs as much as I should. (Particularly ones whose quest-lines are concluded.) And as for Lydia, I pretty much only talk to her to trade items. (She's not very talkative anyhow. Hasn't said anything new in quite some time.) - It may have happened without you realizing it. The NPC walks up and says I got you this! and then the item goes automatically into your inventory. It's like meeting a courier, only quite a bit quicker. I did a double-take when I realized it was happening and that Lucan Valerius was giving me something; of course it was only an iron sword... which I promptly sold back to him. (←) I've never received a thing from my spouse other than the usual $100 a day and home cooked meals. If it is true he has to like me a lot first, how do I do that? Stay at our house together for long periods of time(in my house in Whiterun), converse frequently, or buy from him frequently? Do I have to wear my Bond of Matrimony ring? My husband is Scouts-Many-Marshes (and he seems to have a dialogue problem when I ask him what he has for sale). Marriage for Odfel
Okay, since multiple people keep changing the verification note as to whether it is possible for Odfel to be marriageable without any pre-requirements, this post is for people to confirm whether this is happening for all platforms. I can confirm that I cannot seem to be able to marry him on the PS3 platform myself, and of course we need confirmation for Xbox 360 and PC. If the PC players are able to marry him through console commands, then I think it would be wise to put a bug note on his individual character page stating that he is unable to be married without the console commands, etc. And then we should link that particular bug note from his individual page onto the Marriage page in replacement to his requirements just stating "None". Odfel is not able to be married on any platform. The only way to marry Odfel is through the use of console commands on the PC.
Jordis as a Second Wife.
Found a way to have two spouses on PC using Jordis. As thane, she already lives in BreezehomeProudspire Manor, sleeps in the unfinished basement room.
Preliminary situation: You are unmarried, a thane of Solitude, own BreezehomeProudspire Manor, Jordis is alive and living in Breezehome, but not following you at present. You have no followers tagging along behind you.
1) Marry someone OTHER than Jordis, using the normal routine.
2) Catch up with them after the wedding, they'll be at their home. Enter the "where do we live" dialogue. Choose to live with them. Exit the conversation and wait a couple minutes for them to settle into doing something other than walking around. Talk to them again, select the "I think we should move somewhere else", and have them move into your home in BreezehomeProudspire Manor. They will sleep in the master bedroom. Jordis will still be sleeping in the basement.
3) Go to BreezehomeProudspire Manor and wait for your spouse to arrive. Sometimes this can take several game hours.
4) Interact with them, sleeping for the "lover's comfort" in the master bedroom, getting the home-cooked meal, etc. Wait 24 hours.
5)Open the console.

6) Close the console.
7) Put on an amulet of Mara.
8) Talk to Jordis, selecting the "Interested in me, are you?" option, and tell her you want to marry her.
9) Exit BreezehomeProudspire Manor.
10) Fast-travel to Riften, enter temple of Mara, arrange marriage as normal.
Result: You are still married to your first spouse (whoever that may be, in my case it was Muiri) and the first spouse still has access to the merchant chest, daily gold from their shop and will cook food (if they were cooking before, some don't). Jordis is a second spouse who will buy/sell, but has no daily gold or self-spawning inventory of her own (because she doesn't have access to the merchant chest) and will not cook. She also does not address you as "My love" when you exit conversations with her, that privilege still belongs to the first wife.
This procedure could probably be tweaked to allow Jordis access to the merchant chest, or tweaked to allow other spouses aside from Jordis, etc., but I'll leave that for others to experiment with. I only did this myself because I got tired of Jordis constantly saying "Are you lost?" and "I hope you're not thinking of causing any trouble." every damn time I entered BreezehomeProudspire Manor. Spouse Behavior
I married Aela with my primary Dragonborn and all she does is hang around the house all day, waiting to be recruited as a follower. But now I'm wondering if that's because when she was single, all Aela did was hang around Jorrvaskr all day, waiting to be recruited as a follower. If you marry an NPC who has a daily routine (going to the market, inn, etc), do they maintain that routine after marriage? What if you move them to another city? - You bought the Amulet of Mara, but are you wearing it when you talk to the person you want to marry? You have to wear an Amulet of Mara. It doesn't necessarily have to be the one you bought from Maramal. Amulets of Mara are fairly common in the game, any one will do. --Morrolan (talk) 22:50, 22 February 2013 (GMT)

I've had no issues getting married in previous saves but this time, I've finished the favors (in particular, I'm the Harbinger and I'm trying to court Vilkas), got the Amulet of Mara, am wearing it when I talk to him yet he doesn't comment on it nor do I have the "Interested in me are you?" option. It's not just him either, other NPCs who should be responding aren't. I didn't even think about the fact that I've also adopted Lucia first until I read this. I'm having the same problem with Vilkas and any other. I wear the amulat and have spoken to maramal and still nothing. I have married in other profiles the only difference in this one is that I have adopted. I am also on Xbox 360.
Remarriage after Spouse Death
On the Marriage page, it lists that you cannot remarry if your spouse is killed.

- No, I'm using PS3. I've read of other people doing this before, as well. Maybe it's got a glitch within it? I've killed my spouse 2 times in Skyrim. The first time, I killed them by sacrificing them to Boethia: no courier came to me. The second time, I just killed them walking on the road, because I didn't realize how ugly they were until they married me. A little while later, a courier came, with a letter from the imperial something-or-other, expressing sympathies and giving me money. I then remarried. Spouse Invincibility?
This may not actually be a bug and may just be lucky on my part but is it possible that spouse's are unable to be killed in some circumstances? My character is married to Revyn Sadri and we live in Lakeview Manor. It has been attacked by dragons at least three times and each time Revyn foolishly jumps into the fight. He goes through the usual sequence and when his health falls to a certain level, he falls to his knees and tries to crawl away. However, the dragon stops attacking him at this point and only starts again once he has regained enough health to get back on his feet. Is it possible that your spouse is considered an essential character in these kind of situations or is this just sheer luck? Thelisaraptor (talk) 18:34, 3 November 2012 (GMT)

Before this page was redone, there was information about how some spouses were essential as quest givers, but I remember at least one they warned became only semi-essential if you married her. - Well, technically, yes. You can marry someone of the same gender, but you would have to add her manually to the potential marriage faction in order to get the dialouge. Lydia and Breezehome?

- No, it's not a bug. Lydia is a housecarl. All player's housecarls reside in your house within that city, assuming you own one. So Lydia's residence is Breezehome, or Dragonsreach if you don't own Breezehome yet. However, I don't think you can marry Lydia until you own it (at least that's been my experience, though other factors may influence the option), so it may be moot. "Moonwalking" spouse after kidnap?
I came across a bug that hasn't been mentioned on this page. My spouse got kidnapped (Hearthfire), so I rescued her and we went back to the house. However, after a while I noticed she was walking backwards in a strange fashion and tried to walk through immoveable objects (such as walls, cupboards, etc.). She seems to "think" that she's still locked in a cage, though her dialogue went back to normal as soon as I rescued her. Turning her into a vampire didn't solve it and as far as I remember, neither did killing and resurrecting her through console. I googled it and found others with the same issue but no one seems to have come up with a fix. Anyway, I thought this might be worth adding to the main article as a bug, however rare it may be. Unclothed Spouse

- I suspect it is a misinterpretation. If you have a spouse follower, and you take your spouse outside, give him/her some better armor than what he/she currently has, open his/her store and buy the spouse's default clothing (e.g. buying Aela's Ancient Nord Armor because you're curious what it looks like) then your spouse often won't respawn armor. This means that when he/she is in a situation where he/she is only wearing default clothing he/she will be naked. The only other way I know of to get a naked spouse is via Pickpocket 100 & Perfect Touch, which if the user had done that would probably know why the spouse was naked. --Morrolan (talk) 21:25, 1 February 2013 (GMT)

DG Marriages?
Has anyone ever TRIED marrying Ronthil? He just seems too pitiable and lovable NOT to be a marriage option. Maybe you need to finish the questline? I don't want to force myself to finish the questline and kill my current spouse just to find out my hopes are wrong. Moving homes bug?
I've recently noticed that since adding the Dawnguard DLC, instead of my spouse asking where I'd prefer to live after choosing the dialogue option he says continuously, "The sky is so dark! What does this mean?" Although I can easily bypass this by simply clicking A to bring up the next dialogue options, some of the previous houses we have lived in are no longer available in the list. Spouse reseting.....?
I got married to Farkas and later got a quest from him to clear out Evergreen Grove (just north west of Falkreath and with roadside ruins in between). I fast traveled to Falkreath after asking Farkas to follow me. When I got to the roadside ruins, the glitch started. Not only was i attacked by the normal spriggan but also a see-through horse, when i returned from fighting my horse, quest marker(only for the current quest) and husband were gone. luckly i knew where to go so i quickly cleared the Evergreen Grove thinking little of what happened but my quest did not update. I soon gave up the constant back-tracking in search for my horse and husband. After a month or so in game time, i found myself wandering a random road. on that road i found Farkas knee-deep in the pavement, hands thrust back. I talked to him and the only options available were to ask him for more jobs or to follow me. I asked him to follow me and i got on my new horse. after traveling for some time i decided trying to fast travel to my home outside of Falkreath and told him it was time "to part ways" and he simply replied he was going home. He went back to Jarviskar. I fast traveled there and asked him to follow me then asked to trade some things. In his inventory was a band of matrimony. Any way at all to divorce via console????
On my PS3, Aela got stuck inside Mephala's shrine when I got teleported out, so I considered her dead. I later married Camilla Valerius. Quite a few levels later, I discovered how to port my savegame to PC and use console commands to fix stuff like that, and I wanna marry Aela now. Is there any way to add/remove marriage faction through the console? Shahvee Never Shows Up??
I married Shahvee yesterday (I'm a male Argonian), and spoke to her outside the docks again, telling her to move into my house in Whiterun. It's been a few 'days' since then and she has not yet arrived at Breezehome. This was before I added on the new add-ons, which I know can mess up some marriage programming, but since this was before I installed them, is this a problem?
I did fast-travel back to Whiterun after she agreed to move in with me. Since then, I've looked everywhere for her; my home, the Argonian place on the docks, the docks, and Dragonsreach. - There is no way to find Shahvee except if you are doing her quest, which obviously you have completed. I would try going somewhere else (not Whiterun, Windhelm or Riften) and waiting 30 days. Setting up store in player-built homes
Do spouses still open up a store and give you 100 gold if they live in a player-built house (like Lakeview Manor)? If you look at this, the dialogue line requires the speaker to be in the default homes (Breezehome, Hjerim etc.). Spouse merchants
One of the most common reverted edits on this page is someone writing in that a spouse (probably the one the user just married ingame) is a General merchant, which is the default that all spouses become when they're married.
Evidently there's some confusion about the table. Maybe we should put some text in at the top making it clear that all spouses are merchants, the merchant column is just to distinguish out the potential spouses who are merchants before they're married? --Morrolan (talk) 00:02, 11 August 2013 (GMT)

- Hmm, it's not really the standard way of doing things, but I could use the {{intnote}}/{{note}} templates to make the connection even more clear. - Well, I don't know how those templates work but anything that makes the page clearer is a good thing :)
- The table tends to draw the eye. People scanning webpages will usually stop at tables because of the borders around them. I think this is what's happening here, people just skim the text and then see the big table and just read it. --Morrolan (talk) 00:19, 11 August 2013 (GMT)
- I've added it for now if you want to take a look. Basically, if you see the "†" in the column link and click it, it will scroll so that the note attached to it is at the top of the page, and highlight the note intended. VoiceType in NPC tables
You talk to your spouse a lot. Would it be a good idea to list the voicetypes of the various NPCs in the sortable tables, so people can try and find a spouse who they think sounds nice? --Morrolan (talk) 14:28, 12 September 2013 (GMT)

Marriage outside the box - spouses not on the lists
Not that Skyrim is sexist or anything but, female characters really have a limited choice of husbands. Most are bulky, ugly, bald dolts with white eyes or worse. Not like the limitless svelte bimbos available to male characters. So if the female (or gay) character would rather have a boy-toy like Eimar, here's the solution. This works for the PC console. Once your character gets a response like "Is that an amulet of Mara ... " Go to the character that you would really like to marry that is not on the list. In the console for the PC, click on the character. Type addfac 19809 1

. Re-enter their cell if need be and you should get the necessary dialog. Try to pick a character who does not have a pivotal or essential role but does have a standard voice. - It seems to me that what really matters here is to say that on a technical level your desired spouse must be in the PotentialMarriageFaction and have a Disposition of "Lover" to be available for marriage, then note that PC users can force the issue with the console by using addtofaction and setrelationshiprank if desired. In the spirit of being bold with wiki edits, I'm going to go ahead and do this and if anyone has an issue with it they can revert it and gripe about why right here.

- Also make note that this doesn't work on everyone. In the console commands page they mention that, but I don't think they do here. Changing a Spouse's Clothing
Are there any confirmed, reliable methods for changing a spouse's clothing from their default available for both PC and non-PC users? One technique I've seen mentioned before is getting Perfect Touch in order to steal the spouse's default clothes while also giving them a replacement set of clothes; I haven't had a chance to verify this yet though as I'm still working to level up Pickpocket, and one note mentions that at least some of the spouse's clothes must remain, e.g - their footwear, or they'll just reset their clothes after a while.
Anyway, if anyone knows of some reproducible methods for changing a spouse's clothing then perhaps it should be added to this article? Most of the marriage candidates have terrible clothes, so it would make sense to tell people how to change them here. -- Haravikk (talk) 20:37, 8 October 2013 (GMT)
- There are mods for this on PC. In vanilla Skyrim (whether on PC or consoles), here's the rules.
- Perfect Touch is the only way to remove apparel on non-follower spouses. The spouse will not equip any alternate apparel given. If the spouse has no apparel items remaining, then the spouse's default apparel will respawn. Essential NPCs are immune to Perfect Touch, but there aren't very many essential potential spouses.
- Follower spouses will equip the "best" armor in their inventory while they are following you. Their default apparel will be moved to their unequipped personal items, and thus become available in their spouse stores. If you purchase the default apparel they have, then it will be gone from their personal inventory and will not be re-equipped when they are not following you because they don't have it anymore. So, for example if you want to remove your spouse's gauntlets, you can get them off this way.
- Follower spouses who join the Blades will lose all their default equipment and have it replaced by Blades equipment. Otherwise they work the same as other follower spouses (including having the ability to open their spouse stores and buy their Blades helmets so they don't look quite so much like stormtroopers at home).
- That's pretty much it. You can't get them to equip anything that isn't default equipment when they're not following you. --Morrolan (talk) 21:42, 8 October 2013 (GMT)

- Just to add a couple of points-
- Perfect Touch will not remove a follower-spouse's base torso apparel (armor or robes)- it appears in the inventory, but with a hard-coded "0% chance to pickpocket." This is not the case with non-follower spouses.
- Give your follower-spouse an unobtrusive weapon (like an iron dagger) to fill his/her Equipped Weapon slot, to prevent the hidden "magic" bow and quiver from appearing on his/her back. This weapon-replacement technique also works with non-follower spouses like Sylja (via Perfect Touch), which is a way to get rid of that pickaxe.
- Leaving your spouse with one item of default apparel will prevent his/her default outfit from respawning as soon as s/he leaves your service. However, s/he will then just walk around in his/her stylish Nordic undies. 141.0.9.62 22:28, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

VISIT your spouses house misc quest doesnt finish.

Marcurio never shows up at my house!!

- In addition to those reasons, I've also had an NPC fail to show up because they got stuck in the terrain, hidden beneath the ground and unable to move. I believe, but can't say for sure, that the game would have reset them eventually (after travelling away until the cell reset) and put them somewhere they actually could move. – Robin Hood (talk) 01:29, 28 August 2014 (GMT)

Taarie's merchant type
I married Taarie, the elf from Radiant Raiment, and as my wife she sells general goods in her "store"--including weapons, potions, misc. soul gems, etc. The table seems to indicate that she should only sell clothing, like she did before she was married, but that is not the case for me. Spouses give you better prices
After marrying I noticed that my spouse would give me higher prices for thing I'd sell her than other merchants. (At this point: No perks in speech taken) I'm pretty certain it wasn't caused by blessings or gift of charity running out because it happened each and every time. After taking the allure perk, however, I noticed that male merchants (playing as female character) would give me the same amount as my spouse, so I am simply going to presume that spouses always give the allure bonus. Sidenote: My spouse as well as my character are both female, so Allure actually isn't supposed to work. Then again, Allure isn't supposed to work before you take it anyways, so maybe I'm wrong with that part, but still... Can anybody confirm that? Perhaps there should be a section that indicates which potential spouses have this option, as it seems to be a limited list. Something similar to the section in Skyrim:The Gift. Slowly testing out for myself which ones do/don't have it.

Player Homes
Should a list of potentially available homes the player can tell their spouse to go to be added? I'm not sure what all the possibilities are, but I know it includes all the purchased houses, as well as some of the guild/main quest line residencies. I was wondering if the archmage quarters ever becomes available as a home for your spouse, and found it wasn't listed under either the "marriage" or "house" pages. 70.195.195.69 22:04, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- You cannot use guild locations. The houses are; the purchased ones, the Hearthfire built homes so long as a bed is built, and the spouse's house/building if they have one associated. This info is under Spouse's Property at the moment. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:46, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

- Some potential spouses have their own homes set on guild property; e.g. Aela's bed is in Jorrvaskr, so if you marry her and say you want to live with her, then your marital home is effectively in Jorrvaskr. If you marry a Blade, then your spouse's home is Sky Haven Temple. As far as I know this is the only main quest line area that can become a marital home.
- It is possible to gain the Lover's Comfort benefit, if your spouse is a follower and is currently following you, by sleeping in a number of locations which are not your marital home (nearly anywhere actually, including the archmage's quarters). Can't find wife or kids
So I married Muiri and got into Proudspire Manor and then adopted kids. I then moved them to Hjerm, then to Haljarchen Hall and haven't moved since. But now I can't find them, never asked them to move, I've checked all my homes, and they're not standing somewhere around Haljarchen Hall. Does anyone know how to find them. - How long has it been since they left? It's possible that they're still traveling, in which case you could try waiting for a few days in-game and see if they show up. If you're playing on PC, you should be able to get Muiri to Heljarchen by going there in-game and using the console command

, and then repeating the process for the kids (using their RefIDs). If you're playing on a console, your options are limited to either waiting or reloading an earlier save. Well, I'm not on a computer so I'll have to wait some days or (though highly unlikely because there weren't any bandits around my house when they dissappeared) I'll go to frostmere crypt. Update: None of the ideas worked. So I'll probably have to put my save on my computer and transport them home, then mod my ps3 with some sort of tracking mod.
