A Daedra Lord (Daggerfall)

A Daedra Lord (also spelled Daedric Lord[1] or Daedroth Lord)[2][nb 1] is a greater Daedric being who occupies a rarefied space near the top of Daedric society, just one rung down from the Daedric Princes themselves,[3] maintaining great power and hierarchy over Oblivion that is matched only by the Demiprinces,[4] and exceeded only by the Daedric Princes.[UOL 1] The powers of the Daedra Lords are varied in scope, with some embodying their own individual spheres, and others being servants of the Daedric Princes who help maintain sub-spheres.[UOL 1] Many of the more powerful Lords also rule over their own realms and demi-planes within the infinite swirling void of Oblivion.[4][3]

Daedra Lords are one of the most powerful Daedra to be commonly seen in Tamriel, and are to be feared by all but the most experienced adventurers. They are known to be powerful fighters and spell casters, and can only be harmed by mithril or better weapons.[5] Mehrunes Dagon has many Daedra Lords in his service.[6][7]

While only "a few handfuls" of Daedric Princes are known to mortal scholars, there are dozens of known Daedra Lords whose identities have been recorded, and a potentially infinite amount more within Oblivion, who simply haven't interacted with mortals or been recorded doing so yet.[3]

NotesEdit

  • ^  The term "Daedric Lord" is a phrase with connotations of "nobility", denoting the Daedroth in question as a power of importance. However, the usage of this term may lead some to conflate the Princes with Daedra Lords,[17][18][19] which are a separate kind of Daedra.[20] All Daedric Princes are Daedric Lords, but not all Daedra Lords are Daedric Princes.
    • Demiprinces are also called Daedra Lords,[21] but like Daedric Princes, All Demiprinces are Daedric Lords, not all Daedra Lords are Demiprinces.
  • Lyranth the Foolkiller extracted the power of the Four Ambitions from Mairead in the aftermath of Dagon's banishment and escaped. As she thereafter possessed a portion of a Greater Daedra's power, she may be considered a Daedra Lord.[22]
