Anvil Harbour Expansion!

(xx003FD1)

SPECIAL EDITION!
ANVIL HARBOUR EXPANSION!
Major Construction Finished in Anvil Harbour!
By decree of the Countess Millona Umbranox of Anvil, the docks underwent some major reconstruction as of late. Gone is the shanty little pond formerly used as a bay to harbour ships. Welcome is the site of the new harbour, wide and spacious.
Countess Millona, with the help of city planners, the Mages Guild, and an Argonian underwater construction company, has not only greatly improved the port capacity of Anvil, but has also improved shipping and sailing for all of Cyrodiil.
While the inaugural celebration and grand opening have passed, Countess Millona hopes all will make the journey to Anvil to see their proud new harbour.

Architect hired to construct a port in Bravil!
The count hopes for increased revenue.
The citizens look for an increase in trade.
by Agnes "the quill is mightier than the ebony sword" Earheardt
The City of Bravil -- Long has the city of Bravil been known as the dirtiest city in Cyrodiil. But no longer, if the Count has anything to say about it. He has hired adventurer-turned-architect Aratthol Jelfin, who was in charge of the Anvil Bay Expansion, to construct a large port on the shores of the Niben. The Count would like to remind everyone to be patient during the construction process.

Skingrad's Noble Monster

(xx0C588E)

SPECIAL EDITION!
SKINGRAD'S NOBLE MONSTER!
You always wondered if that noble was in fact a monster in disguise? The citizens of Skingrad got proof that one of their most valued members of the nobility was indeed a monster and what a monster: an ogre mage!
The story began with the disappearance of the corpse of Lord Baldor Varian's wife. A person who wishes to remain nameless says that the night the corpse disappeared, he was hypnotised and lost two hours of memory. But this happened early in the evening so we don't know really where the corpse was taken.
A local hero took on investigating the issue and discovered evidence that the person who was believed to be Lord Baldor Varian was in fact an ogre!
His maid has this to say: "He was always nice to me, but never allowed me to cook for him." And we now know why: He was eating human flesh! An alchemist whose reputation is above any doubt confirmed that she had to test some suspicious meat given to her by the authorities and confirmed that this was human desiccated meat.
Our source at the Arcane University also confirm that some very disturbing writings, including a cooking book on how to prepare human meat and brain was recently added to the collection of forbidden knowledge in the University library.
With all the evidence gathered by this local hero, the guards under the authority of the Count of Skingrad, went to apprehend the monster early in the morning and one of them said: "It was horrible, as soon as we told him the reason for our presence in his house he started to transform and cast some lightning at us!" That was the final proof that this noble was always just an ogre dear readers! So just how many of them are there in our nobility? We demand to know!
One other noble of Skingrad, said to be a friend with the ogre, disappeared from the city and an eminent doctor has this to say: "I suspect that he (the noble in question) is in fact the one who took poor Lady Lucy Varian's body from the chapel undercroft." The doctor couldn't confirm whether or not this other noble was in fact also a monster or necromancer using dead bodies for damnable purposes!
"And now I'm out of work! I have bills to pay!" says the maid of the ogre. But lady, you should have chosen a better master! One who is not a monster!
The Count of Skingrad was not available for comment on the situation but his steward told us that the matter was handled with care and that the evidence was compelling enough for the count to take action, but that it should not become a habit of accusing any noble of being a monster without any proof. It seems that some citizens came to report their master or neighbour was a monster in the aftermath of this delicate story.

Crumpled Piece of Paper

(xx09830E)

A crumpled piece of paper with scraps of phrases that look like Ida's letter to Olivia. There are ink stains and an attempt to duplicate Ida Vlinorman's signature.

Dirty Journal

(xx098312)

We left Skingrad in the morning. The weather is wonderful. Everyone is well fed, happy and dreaming of a good journey. We managed to take several orders at once. Skingrad wine, supplies from the Imperial City, and something else interesting. I think the owner will be pleased.

I am writing to you right from the saddle. Inconvenient, but there is no time. Soon we will be at Miscarcand, we will make camp in front of the bridge. But there we will have to sleep with half an eye open, as there are rumours about trolls and bandits in the area.

If we get to Anvil without trouble, I will send this letter and buy as a present for my Milena that turquoise necklace that she saw in Lelles' shop. Before the trip, she buzzed in my ears: "Ah, Alan, this necklace goes well with my hair! Alan, will you buy me such a trifle?" What can I do? I'll buy anything for my dear Milena. But it would be good to get to the port. Nothing terrible will happen there.

It is a little disturbing that after the attack of the scamps, my horse is burned and one of the guards hardly sees. But we'll try to go around Fyrelight Cave, so everything will be fine.

And, I see the cave ahead, soon we rest. I'll write more tomorrow. Or at the next stop, at Gottshaw Inn.

Excerpts Translated from Ogre Journal

(xx07822D)

Day 235: Me found recipe to cook head and get all the mind memory. Rat memories nasty!
Day 237: Me find goblin to cook head. Goblin memories funny!
Day 285: Me working on cooking meat and take appearance of the cooked thing! Must not do rat again! Too small, too weak. Had to wait for effect to stop to be able to talk and use magic again. Imps are means with rats!
Day 303: Imps have lot of magic and flying is funny. Must remember to use wings or drop and hurts! Imps voice can't tell all magic. Must find better meat to cook.
Day 318: Cooked goblin shaman! Lot of new spells! Goblins good with magic but weak.
Day 352: I found some humans. They have tasty meat. Their memories allowed me to increase my knowledge in various fields. I can read their language now and speak it almost perfectly. The effects are not permanent though. A regular supply of human meat should allow me to keep my intellect at its peak. I have to devise a plan to get more human meat.
Day 455: It is difficult to come with a proper supply of human meat. They do not venture alone on roads anymore and some of them are very skilled with weapons. I just had my first good meat since 50 days. But I have a good idea now. I need to go in their city. There I'll get all the meat I need. I also improved the duration of the effects. I can now go as long as 20 days without suffering for loss of the memories I got and the appearance seems to last as long as I want to.
Day 495: I have found the perfect candidate for my last experiment. His name is Baldor Varian. He seems to be a nobleman. He will provide me the perfect cover for my purpose. For now he stays chained to the wall until I get the perfect recipe. I'll have to write every memory he has to make sure I don't forget them. A regular supply of humans should keep my intellect intact and allow to keep the memories more easily.
Day 513: I still have all the memories from Baldor Varian but I need to get a new batch of human meat soon. I will go to take his place in the city tomorrow.
Day 521: I am playing the lord since one week now. He had several servants so they won't be missing the one I cooked. I still have all the memories of Baldor so it is working. As long as I keep a regular diet, I will be able to keep his form and his memories.
Day 576: I have to wed a human female. I must go on a long trip to her province and conduct some business with her family while I'm there. I think a woman will be good for my cover. But I ate all the servants but two... I must find a source of food outside of the household. I will get on that after my return.
Day 602: I have returned, with my new wife. She is very undisciplined. I can't act with her as I would with an Ogress. I would kill her. I need to keep her in the house so I have created a cage spell for her. She doesn't like that very much it seems. She tried to complain with a servant but that won't be an issue because I ate him.
Day 612: Lucy is ill. I don't need to cast the cage anymore since she is too weak to go anywhere but I had to call for a doctor as it would be what a human would have done.
Day 618: Lucy is dead. I have no idea what she suffered from but I need to stop coming here now. My brother will use this place. I must keep a low profile among the humans as it would be expected from a widower.

Cyrus

Letter

Radene,
Remember to keep your experiments to yourself, the Guild would not be pleased with our work! I've made little progress so far, send me an update as soon as possible.

Letter

Radene Ores,
I've done it! Come quick, I can't let the Guild find out. Don't tell anyone where you're going.
Cyrus

Letter

(xx00632B)

Cyrus,
I've found a great supply of cheap pearls. They're not perfect, but at this price it really doesn't matter if some are no good. You should order some yourself for the experiments, look for Percan Cedus in the Market District of the Imperial City.
Radene

Cyrus,
No luck. Absolutely none. I hope you're doing better than me, I'm starting to wonder whether that archaeologist was lying about the contents of these pots.

Letter from Baron K von Zarov

(xx073DB5)

My Dear Friend
I have to leave town to attend an important clan meeting in Morrowind. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance with Lucy's recent anemia, but I suggest you keep her from the sun for the time being...
It may also be wise to not spice her food too much and forbid condiments like garlic and onions.
I will return within a month and will probably have some new business propositions for you at that time. I do hope your faithful Lucy will have recovered by then and that we can have one of our customary late evening meals.
Rest assured of my eternal friendship and give Lucy my best wishes.
Your friend,
Baron K. von Zarov

Letter from Baron K von Zarov

(xx069FF3)

My Dear Friend
I have to leave town to attend a very important business meeting in another Province. I hope this won't change anything in our usual arrangements.
I will return within a month and will probably have some new profitable business propositions for you at that time.
Rest assured of my eternal friendship and give Lucy my best wishes.
Your friend,
Baron K. von Zarov

Letter from Elendar

(xx098315)

I am writing in a hurry. Thank you for everything. For help and patience. Altmer are not famous for their gratitude, but we don't like being in debt either. Attached to the letter is the key to my house. There you can find a gift that we left for you. We are leaving Leyawiin and soon I will be able to introduce Olivia to my family and friends. I hope staying in the phylactery won't be too damaging for her.
Goodbye.

Letter from John Vernick

(xx098311)

This is John Vernick. You promised to protect us, but they came and said that we must do as they say, otherwise they will kill us! You must help us!

Letter from Marius Caro

(xx09832D)

Leyawiin needs help!
We know that during this difficult time, the whole of Cyrodiil begs you for salvation. We thank you for closing the Oblivion gates at the walls of Leyawiin. We believe that the world will be saved and the invasion stopped.
But our city still needs your help. After the closure of the gates near the city, their remains continue to smoke, and most importantly, there is a bridge from the gate to the shore. The bridge blocks free access to the port and ships can no longer bring us food and necessary goods.
The bridge and the remains of the gate must be destroyed. Leyawiin asks for your help.
Count Marius Caro.

Letter From the Castle

Letter to Milena

(xx098316)

My dear Milena.

It was a very dangerous and difficult trip. I lost three men. Frank and Dojo were dragged away by trolls, and Steve was killed by bandits. Dojo I am especially sorry about - just a kitten.

But thank Tiber Septim, I got to Anvil and now everything will be fine.

Forgive me, dear, I cannot buy you a turquoise necklace. We have lost more than half of the goods. The Surilie Brothers wine boxes were trampled by trolls, we had to throw them out on the way. Well, at least the most valuable things were saved. Peter, that new carter I hired in the Imperial City, is a brave man. He did not let go of the chest.

I am boarding the ship tomorrow and will soon be in Leyawiin. I hope Lebon will forgive me this unfortunate trip. He won't pay, of course, but maybe for the sake of the friendship of our fathers, he won't demand compensation from me.

Sweetheart! We'll see you very soon. I miss you, my dear. My little one! I'll kiss your cheeks a thousand times. Until then, my joy.

Your Alan.

  • On the body of Alan.

Litany of Purification

(xx098318)

(This scroll is blank - it casts a spell.)

Lost Note

(xx098319)

All that we see is only one visibility.
Far from the surface of the sea to the bottom.
Consider the obvious in the world unimportant,
For the secret essence of things is not visible.

  • Beside the statue of Topal the Pilot in Leyawiin.
Lost Note

(xx09831A)

Brother, do not demand riches - they will not be enough for everyone.
Do not regard sin with the gloating joy of a saint.
There is God above mortals. As for the neighbour's business,
Then there are even more holes in your robe.

  • On the ground outside Ra'Jahirr's house (under the bush to the left of the door).
Lost Note

(xx09831B)

The world has no beginning, no end to it,
We will be gone forever - neither names nor signs.
This world was before us and will remain forever,
After us it will stand for another thousand years.

  • On a bench to the north of the Leyawiin south harbor gate.
Lost Note

(xx09831C)

Rejoice with your friends, while you are young, in the spring:
Don't leave anything in the jug at the bottom!
After all, this world was once flooded with water,
So why don't we drown in wine?

Lost Note

(xx09831D)

Call not to a friend, or to heaven
About help. Look for the balm in yourself.
Be of good courage in trouble, desiring another in your place
Suffer your misfortune yourself.

  • At the base of the statue to the left of the Leyawiin Fighters Guild front door.
Lost Note

(xx09831E)

If you are my friend, leave the word game
And pour me some wine; when I die,
Make a brick from my ashes, carry it
Into a tavern and plug a hole in the wall there.

  • On one of the benches just south of the outdoor market in Leyawiin.
Lost Note

(xx09831F)

"Drinking wine is a sin." Think, take your time!
You yourself obviously do not sin against life.
Send to hell for wine and women?
Then in paradise, probably, not a soul.

  • On a bench outside of Mahei's house.
Lost Note

(xxxx0983120)

Where witchcraft goes in a circle of wine bowls,
All my being is drawn into a circle!
Here are friends, here are flowers, and wine is abundant!
My whole being will not swear off!

Lost Note

(xxxx0983121)

How long will you reproach us, you nasty prude,
Because we are burning with faithful love to the tavern?
We are pleased with wine and honey, and you
Entangled in beads and hypocritical lies.

Lost Note

(xxxx0983122)

I asked the wisest: "What have you learned
From his manuscripts?"
And he spoke to me:
"Happy is he who is in the arms of a tender beauty
At night from the wisdom of the book he is far".

  • In the Leyawiin Mages Guild, to the right of the front door.
Lost Note

(xxxx0983123)

My idol, the potter fashioned you like that,
That before you the moon is ashamed of its spell.
Let others decorate themselves for the holiday,
You - you have a gift to decorate a holiday.

  • On the railing at the rear of the gazebo in Leyawiin.
Lost Note

(xxxx0983124)

One will not understand what roses smell like
Another of the bitter herbs will extract honey
Give someone a trifle, they will forever remember
You will give your life to someone, but he will not understand

  • On the railing of a stone bridge northeast of the chapel in Leyawiin.
Lost Note

(xxxx0983125)

Do not do evil: it will return like a boomerang.
Do not spit in the well: you will drink the water.
Do not insult someone below your rank:
What if you have to ask for something?
Do not betray your friends: you cannot replace them,
And do not lose your loved ones, they will not return.
Do not lie to yourself: you will learn over time
That you betray yourself by lying.

Lost Note

(xxxx0983126)

Isn't it funny to save a penny every day,
If you can't buy eternal life anyway?
This life was given to you, my dear, for a while, so
Try not to waste your time!

  • On a bench in the Leyawiin graveyard, beside the tomb.
Lost Note

(xxxx0983127)

To live life wisely, you need to know a lot,
Remember two important rules to start with:
You'd rather starve than eat anything
And it is better to be alone than with just anyone.

  • On the ground near the campfire in the Leyawiin Khajiit Quarter.
Lost Note

(xxxx0983128)

Early in the morning I hear the call of the tavern:
"O fool, wake up, because life is short!
The skull cup will soon be filled with earth.
We will fill the cup with a drunken moisture!"

  • On the steps beside the southern cat statue along the canal, just north of the Leyawiin south gate.
Lost Note

(xxxx0983129)

I have no yard, no stake in the yard.
All cash my head is in silver.
Drunk. Tramp. Chatterbox. And since in gray hair
The beard, then the devil is known to be in the rib.

Lost Note

(xxxx098312A)

I will not reveal the mysteries of the world to you, alas,
For I will become a target for dirty rumours.
Nobleness is not honoured by wise men.
I'll blabber and I'd get my head off.

Lost Note

(xxxx098312B)

Do you dream of being glorified descendants?
Trembling like a leaf before the greedy light?
Better to be a reveler than a saint.
And it is better to be a drunkard than an ascetic.

  • On a bench overlooking the canal south of the fountain in the Leyawiin plaza.
Lost Note

(xxxx098312C)

Miser, do not lament that times are bad.
Spend everything you have. Remember: there is only one life.
No matter how much gold you plunder, but into another world from here
Alas, you can't take away even a handful of grain.

Mages Guild Recommendation

(xx098331)

The Leyawiin Mages Guild recommends that the bearer be granted the status of Honorary Citizen of Leyawiin County.

Message for Skingrad Authorities

(xx07822E)

To the proper authorities concerned,
We, the Mages of the Arcane University have been provided with three unaltered and genuine books written in ogre language. The books are described as follows:
First book: Spell book for a shaman ogre. Contains various destruction spells involving fire, electricity and ice. Also contains various potion recipes with exotic ingredients such as human meat.
Second book: Cook book: It contains various disgusting recipes with insects and roots but also some other recipes involving meat of different creatures. Contains a special recipe called the Mimic which allows the eater to take the appearance of the creature whose meat he ingested as well as a Memory recipe which allows the consumer of the brain of a creature to recover most of their memories. Several annotations and references to potions indicate that the effect of these recipes, which are basically limited to the time the meal is in the consumer's system, can be extended for longer periods.
Third book: The journal of an Ogre Mage who started the impersonation of a pre-eminent lord in Skingrad: Baldor Varian. The lord in question was most definitely killed and his brain cooked so that the consumer got all his memories for an indefinite period of time (possibly permanent if the correct conditions are met) and his flesh also cooked and consumed by the ogre who could them pass for him at will.
These books are proof without any shred of doubt that the current lord Varian is an ogre impersonator. He is highly intelligent for an ogre and possesses good magical skills. He preys on humans for their flesh and brain to keep his intelligence at its current level and should be considered extremely dangerous.
Arcane University Council of Mages

Note

(xx0982F7)

If you can stop the adventurer and acquire the papers, the money is yours. There may be a boy with him. Remove both. And why are you asking me about some creatures? Are you preparing an excuse?

Note

(xx0982F8)

Creatures in the mine! Dibella's tits! It's full of these critters, grandfather did not lie. Already two have been eaten. The mage remains at the entrance and is in no hurry to protect us. One-Eye, do something! Otherwise we will send you to the scaffold and get out of here.

Note from Auril

(xx01A19B)

So you have solved the riddle. And that is good, my friend.
I cannot rid msyelf of the feeling that "the elder one" has already stepped onto our trail.
The house is ours now and my little hideout. A den and fort keeping the noses of the local junk out of our "little affair".
As I came here they robbed me three times.
But I have made progress.
You remember that I talked to an expert who claimed that the rocks the city is built on are called "fake-stones" - and that you could dig them out with a shovel?
He was right!
I have found the entrance. Looks like an old shaft someone broke into the stone to supply this rat-town with a sewer system. Guess they raided him, too.
Be careful, I will try to distract the "elder-eyes" and lead them south.
There is a sweet local maid who fell for me.
Her name is Yana.
One of those dumb, naive, village girls - looking for a better life in the more civilised world.
She will serve me as company and décor, if "the elder one" follows my path.

If you succeed I will know.

May Mephala be with you,
Auril

  • In Islan's Tomb.
Note to Elaine

(xx020828)

Elaine,
My sister insisted I should write to tell you that I won't be wanting to see you again. We had fun together, you and me, but I'm going to be a famous adventurer one day, and I can't be getting tied down with some girl I met in a shop in Chorrol.
When I'm famous, the girls will come flocking, and I'll have the pick of the most beautiful women around!
I know you'll understand, maybe some farmer will take an interest in you sometime, and you can tell him all about how you knew me before I was famous!!

  • On a dead body in the caverns below Chorrol.
Orders for the Shining Topal

(xx0A60F9)

To the Captain of the Shining Topal
As you are aware, the Tender Topal is overdue returning from Archon.
You are hereby ordered to search the Topal Bay and along the coast of Argonia up to Archon for any signs of the Tender Topal.
The bearer of these orders will be joining you on this search, please show the courtesies expected toward any paying passenger.
Charles Dumaine, on behalf of the directors of the Topal Trading Company

Ri'Shar's Letter

(xx098336)

Empty-headed cretin! If you cannot intimidate a family of pathetic farmers, then what use are you? The cargo will come soon, and again we have no base either in the city or near it. Cut these farmers to pieces, but store the goods in Greyland. The imperial dogs will not look there, they believe that they have cleaned the skooma trade out of the city. So we'll stay outside the city and everything will be safe like a kitten curled up under its mother. And you will again beg me "Ri'Shar, give money, Ri'Shar, give money!" so Ri'Shar will sink you right under the pier. Got it, idiot?
When you come to Greyland, everyone will be scared. There is no time to be careful. The goods will be safe - we will replace everything else. We'll bribe whoever needs it. If you fail to return, you will not live. I swear by Azura!

Ri'Shar's Note

(xx098337)

Damn bandits. This one gave them as much money as they wanted. This one only asked for patience until the messenger from the port comes. Ri'Shar is smart. All is set. Ri'Shar hid most of the gold and gifts. No one will guess where. No, they won't.
Now this one must wait for the ship and leave for Evermore forever. On the way, we will dock and take everything from the cave.
The main thing is that the bandits do not guess. This one has changed. All is hidden. But it looks like the Khajiit has a lot of money in his bag. It is sometimes scary. Khajiit hid a lot of money. Khajiit hopes the bandits won't touch him. The messenger should have come faster.

Ancient Battlefield
Thin bleached bones,
bones in the whitened sun --
where is the fire to stir,
to rattle bones?
No gallant banners,
no shining swords,
no polished armor,
no boasting heroes.
And...
no horses screaming,
no bloodsoaked sands,
no wailing comrades,
no smells of dying.
Just...
thin bleached bones.

Autumn's Welcome

(xx179347)

Autumn's Welcome
Autumn's lofty sky
descended, covering the valleys
with fluttering reds and yellows.
The glitter and ivory of snow
sparkle from the high mountain pinnacle.
The dawn of crimson and gold
reverberated songs of migrating birds,
dazzled unseen above the painted leaves.
Melodies of autumn reflect the serenity
that lies in the approach of the frigid winter.
Autumn sinks down
and blue hues flatter the icy mountaintops.
Crows and blue-jays sound a trumpeting,
as squirrels play
within the color crested treetops.
From the windless meadows
many bees hum towards their home,
and songbirds fashion musical tunes
more enchanting than the colors of autumn.

The Battle of Molag Beran

(xx010B40)

The Battle of Molag Beran
(Dunmer Traditional Ballad)
Did you come to hide from war,
Or come to herd the guar,
Or were you with the House Guard
At the Battle of Molag Beran?
For I was there, and fought and cried,
And tasted blood and thunder.
I stood in line with mace and shield
As Dunmer clan slew Dunmer.
The guard of House Retheran
Were bright arrayed for battle.
They came in pride, in columns wide,
But ran like frightened cattle.
We stood our ground on Tadras Banks,
Then turned their flanks and roweled them.
The field was bright with cousin's blood
Spilled by doughty Drenim.
We lost some gallant gentlemen
From ranks of brave House Drenim.
And many a wand'ring widow weeps
On the hills of Molag Beran.
Some fell for wrong, some fell for right,
All for the colors wearin',
And many bade the world good-night
At the Battle of Molag Beran.

The Black Glove

(xx010B37)

The Black Glove
Swift and agile are the Morag Tong. Silent and unseen they move. Illusions they supply to misdirect their prey. Close and sure they strike with shortblade, or distant and secure they strike from afar with accurate missile fire. Light armor protects them from harm, and the acrobatic discipline finds for them the unseen and unlooked-for path. Have you these virtues? Then, perhaps, your oath and service may please the Morag Tong.
Do you have your friends and your finery, but no place to go? Do you laugh and cry, but no longer feel? Do you wear these masks? Then, perhaps, your oath and service may please the Black Glove.
The blood of the hunter and the blood of the hunted. The joy of the hidden and the joy of the seeker. The blood of the eye and the blood of the gate. The joy of the living and the joy of the dead. Are you one with these things? Then, perhaps, your oath and service may please Mephala.
To make your oath and enter our service, the worthy must seek the Grandmaster, who by tradition lives in the unseen and unlooked-for corners of Vivec City between the blood of battle and the waters of life.

Gold Horse Courier
Rules and Regulations for couriers
This is a guide for couriers on how to properly deliver packages.
In every city, Gold Horse Couriers (GHC) has a branch. In every branch, there is a delivery board kept up by its respective manager. As a courier, you can grab local deliveries by selecting a posting from the city you are currently in. You can deliver a package to a specific city by selecting a city other than the one you are in.
The company does not condone forcing entry into properties in an attempt to complete deliveries. If you are arrested for such actions, do not expect Gold Horse Couriers to pay for your release from prison. The person you are delivering to may be visiting the shops, the local inn, or taking a walk around the city, so try to find them if they do not appear to be at home, or come back at a different time of day.
If for any reason you cannot find the person you need to deliver to, please return the package to any branch manager.

Crumpled Letter

(xx098314)

My friend John,
I hope you have not yet gone down with your rotten vessel, and my letter will reach its destination.
I have finally managed to figure out where this cursed treasure map of Feinertil Steelhook is located. All this time it was in the hands of the captain of the Sea Lily passenger tub. Wow! For three years we have been shaking up the entire Tamriel coast in a fruitless search, and the gods entrusted the key to the treasures of the legendary pirate to some water rat!
Rumour has it that the Sea Lily dropped anchor in the port of Leyawiin three days ago. I would gladly check the authenticity of these rumours myself, but after the events you know, my face is too well known to the guards, they are keeping a sharp lookout. As soon as I show up in the city, they will immediately send me into the depths of the foamy sea, so, brother, you will have to deal with this matter. The captain's name is Ben Ashton. Find this rascal and rip the map out of his grubby little hands, even if you have to chop off those little hands.
I hope that rum and sea water have not yet eroded your memory and, as agreed, I will receive my half of the loot, if my information is confirmed.
Seven feet under the keel and a fair wind.

Diary of a Soldier at the First Battle of Mournhold
1st Frostfall, 1E 2919
The Dunmer kill like it's nothing. They're savage. I'm afraid we can't hold our position much longer. We will have to retreat soon. Mournhold is the last city that stands in our way of conquering Morrowind.
The captain continues to tell us we're going to win. However, the Indoril have been holding us back. They are a very big problem. If we could only destroy that accursed House. However, if we can penetrate the city's walls, the battle shall be won.
3rd Frostfall, 1E 2919
We did it! We broke the wall! The battle should be easier. Wait... arrows! They're flying everywhere! And catapults! By the Nine! The carnage is horrible! To whomever finds this story, know that the Empire is not as great as they claim. We have lost and the worl...
It ends there. The original was found with a bloodstain on it. Today, all military leaders are required to read this so as to not make the mistakes that were made at that fateful battle...

Here at Last
A shift in the winds,
Brought an ever needed breeze.
The honeysuckle vines send the smells of summer,

Here at last.

Kagouti Mating Habits

(xx178EF6)

Observations made on wild kagouti in southeastern Morrowind.
Kagouti do not seem to travel in large packs, as previously believed. Perhaps they group into larger packs when mating season is imminent.
Females seem to be dominant sex. Males will bring gifts of food in exchange for mating advantage. Males sometimes attacked.
Loud vocalizations heard exchanged (believed to be from males), especially at night. Fascinating.
Males do not seem to engage in physical confrontation for reproductive rights. Some posturing, but no conflict.
All kagouti display increased aggressiveness during mating. Must be careful not to be seen.
Mating kagouti found to be increasingly territorial.

Letter

(xx004D17)

Dearest Gandosa,
Thank you for your last letter. It really cheered me up. Yes, even in the big city you can be lonely. Or maybe especially here... remember the charming Redguard in Balmora? When I go out here, nobody even seems to notice me. Last time, I had to order my Flin a second time, because the bartender had forgotten me - and I was standing right in front of him! Because of this I've hardly left my apartment in the last couple of weeks. But you are right, of course, I must not lose hope. Maybe one day I will meet the man of my dreams.
Cerxes has grown a lot, and he is very healthy. He doesn't like strangers, though, but I think he is just trying to protect me. He is such a good dog, I could not imagine living here without him. I wonder if he can remember you, but I'm sure he would like you in any case.
I will write you more when I find the time. Right now work is taking up a lot of my time, I have more customers than usual - no wonder, with all the trouble in the land. How is it in Ald'ruhn, by the way? I hope everything is fine, but Under-Skar seems very well-protected to me, so I don't worry too much.
Take care of yourself. Your loving friend,
Volrina

Letter From Evnil Denoric

(xx17934C)

These are the lost writings of Evnil Denoric;
Devoted prophet and pilgrim of the Nine.
Letter to the Temple of the Nine: Cyrodiil
To my fellow brothers who share my faith in the Nine divines; they who guide and protect us from the evil that is now threatening our faith, our people, and the land.
It is indeed with sadness in my heart that I write this letter to you. The past weeks in this cold and brutal prison have been a painstaking test of bodily and spiritual resolve, and have truly tested my faith in the Nine. It is with deep sadness that I have received the ill-fated news of emperor Uriel Septim's demise at the hand of assassins. This greatly troubles me. Guided by visions from the Nine, I am certain that the time, of the rise of the Prince of Destruction, has finally come to pass.
My dear brothers, have I not forewarned you of this evil? Have I not asked you to hold on strongly to your faith? In my previous letters to you, I spoke about those who have lost faith in the Nine, and the brothers who betrayed our faith and turned to the worship of Deadric and other evil gods. You have lost your faith my brothers - by turning from the path of true faith in the Nine divines, I am afraid, you have lost the means to guide your people in the times of trouble to come. You have become as stagnant as the stone altars in the temples of the Nine; the people of Cyrodiil need the guidance of the Nine now more than ever, but you have chosen to turn to ignorance and blindness and closed your eyes to the suffering around you.
My visions have been dark of late, and under the duress of torture by these robed men, which was also responsible for my capture and imprisonment, it feels that I have lost my sanity. My thoughts have darkened, turned to cursing the Nine for allowing this trail to come to pass, followed by feelings of guilt and hopelessness. But there is still hope, even under the most foulest of circumstances or the darkest recesses of time. In one vision I see darkness, death and destruction that slowly consume the land as the Dragonfires will bring light no more. The people of Cyrodiil have lost faith in the Nine and follow a path of sin and denial. Yet, in my other visions I see a light in the darkness, someone with a dark past and uncertain future, locked up in prison cell as me - there is something about this individual that sings of hope, of faith renewed. His path may be one of darkness or one of light, but he alone have the strength to face the evil that will rise from the red planes of Oblivion. I ask you, followers of the Nine, to search for this individual, and assist and guide him the best you can. He may be the only light of hope for us, even if all the other lights should go out.
I implore you my fellow brothers in the Nine, hold true to your faith, and let the Nine divines guide you through these times of troubles, which will have to come to pass. Now more than ever you have to go out and lead your people and bring them the message that there is still hope, and that the Nine have not abandoned them. If we do not have faith my brothers, we will not prevail against this dark evil.
PS. - I have befriended another jail keeper in this dark prison, turned him to faith in the Nine. He said he will do what he can to ensure that this letter reach you. I can only hope then, that it will reach you in time.
Your brother in faith.

The Moon's Blood

(xx17934D)

The Moon's Blood
By Joran B.A.B.
The Nine may forgive,
The Nine may not.
A Daedra's curse;
That is sin.
My wife lived,
Honey flower sweet,
Pale and beautiful,
As the moon's light grace.
No longer alive.
No longer pale.
Blood red she be
As my hands when I wake.
By moon be damned.
By blood be cursed.
I roam the wilds
A beast.
I roam the streets
A man.

Note

(xx01A195)

Here I see someone has volunteered to spend the next ten years trying to dig the mud from the canals!
You live under the misconception that the law ends when the authorities are not physically present.
And I know you have not tried to sip my brandy, so it is not about a suicide attempt.
Therefore, I summarize that your presence in my house must be due to mental instability!
So you have two choices:
Choice One (the one that you like)
You take your chances to serve the public for the next ten years by shoveling the daily dirt out of the channels so that our little spot of civilisation is still attractive to the massive amount of tourists our commercial zones depend on.
OR (you're mad) Choice Two:
You make your peace with the gods and pray not to cross my way on your insane chase to the front gate and wipe the name 'Bravil' out of your tortured but still intact brain for the rest of your life!
Yours truly,
Marwen
PS. You can get shovels at "The Fair Deal"! Tomorrow morning six o'clock next to the alchemist you may attend your new public task.

My dear friend,
Sire,
It is with grateful joy I find you still in wonderful shape, as we met last time. We had serious worries concerning your health, sire.
Please enjoy the ladder as a gift of mine; as a little 'contribution' to your venture.
Please remember, that if you should have no more use for the blade, I would be also grateful to make you a fair offer as always for it.
Further you should know that our stocks of potions and lotions against any kind of plagues and diseases someone could catch while journeying through dark labyrinths, are still at their finest.
I am very sure, sire, that we will meet again one way or the other, and we are looking onto our next congregation with a great amount of tension.
With highest regards,
Ma Syd Jun

Note From Uncle Heimdall

(xx004960)

If you are reading this then I am dead. I am sure Marlon was behind it but you will need to prove it. I have left a spare key to the ship in this chest, it should help you. The best place to look is probably in Marlon's old quarters. As first mate he used to have the private room at the end of the crew deck, so that is your best bet.
Also, if I am dead then my dear Elsa is alone. There is an artifact in the hold, in a chest of mine that will allow her to make some money. Although you have the key to my chests, the hold will likely be locked. You will need the captain's key for that, which Marlon will probably have. Once you have the key, retrieve my gift to Elsa and deliver it to her. The rest of the ship is yours to do with as you will.

Old Skaal Song

(xx166B09)

We are the All-Maker's children
We are the Greedy Man's enemies
We are free by right,
But the Empire has come
And want to dominate all.
They rip the land apart,
They disgrace the All-Maker
They destroy the forests,
And polute the rivers.
They come bringing war,
To our peaceful land.
Our peaceful land of Solsthiem.
They come with their false gods,
They come with their lies,
Lies about peace and prosperity.
But we know.
We know that all they want
Is power and wealth,
And once they take all of us,
They'll just go away
And leave us to die.
So there can be no peace,
No peace with Imperials,
Man of stone and steel and lies.
There can be only war!
But now it's getting worse,
The Bloodmoon prophecies have started,
And Hircine's Hounds walk the land,
Killing all in their path.
And until the Great Hunt has ended
And the Bloodmoon is gone,
We won't live in peace
As the All-Maker meant us to be.

Saint Nerevar

Saint Nerevar
[From a short Temple pamphlet for Western readers.]
Ages ago, Nerevar was the greatest Dunmer general, First Councilor, and companion of Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil, who, with the power of the great Ring of the Ancestors, One-Clan-Under-Moon-and-Star, united the Dunmer Houses to confront the evil Dwemer, the treacherous House Dagoth, and their Western allies at Red Mountain.
By Providence, the faithless Dwemer were utterly destroyed, and their allies defeated, but Nerevar, mortally wounded in combat with the traitor Dagoth Ur, was driven from Red Mountain. Nerevar died not long after of his wounds, but he lived to see the birth of the Temple, and to bless the unity of the Dunmer into the safekeeping of Almsivi, the Temple, and all its communion of saints.

Where all beetles seemeth lazy, and weak,
And the fragrant wind bloweth on thy cheek;
The vivid colors showing in thine eyes,
Appearing 'gainst a rainbow that ne'er dies;
Here in the midst of these wonderful things,
It is nature's grand welcoming to spring.

I will always love you, I know I'm only a fisherman and that I'm not rich, but your dad should have understood our true love...
I have waited for you all night... you did not come, I guess he persuaded you not to continue our relationship.
Anertus Flores,
Your only love xox

I want you to know that I ran away not because I don't love you, but because I have no wish to be a farmer all my life. I've joined the army, and am currently stationed in Leyawiin. I don't know where we are due to go from here.

Winter's Solace

(xx179348)

Winter's Solace
The snow gently fell on the mountain pass
All things were covered and shimmered like glass
In the distance, stood but a single young doe
As the forest revealed its icy show
Fir trees were bent - in reverence - they bowed
Rabbits remained hidden beneath the tree's shroud
Icicles hanging, a lustrous cascade
A light wind blowing a melodious serenade
The mountain streams were now covered in ice
It was winter's welcome to paradise.
