Dark Seducers or Mazken are Sheogorath's Daedric guards in Dementia, and can be found guarding the Crucible section of New Sheoth. They are rivals with the Golden Saints and the two are sometimes found battling each other, as seen at Cylarne during The Cold Flame of Agnon. The Dark Seducers greatly despise the Golden Saints: "Our rivals. The so-called Golden Saints. One day, Sheogorath will finally recognize their bull-headed stupidity and expel them from the Realm." The Saints, in turn, have a very low opinion of the Dark Seducers: "The treacherous ones: the Dark Seducers of ill-repute, whose every action drags Sheogorath's holy name through the mud." On the topic of Sheogorath, the Dark Seducers will make their utmost loyalty clear: "Sheogorath is our Lord, ruler of the Shivering Isles. It is by his whim that the Mazken walk, and we serve our Master to the death."
Their base is at Pinnacle Rock, where Sheogorath placed a wellspring from which they are able to enter and live in his realm. Upon the subject of the Shivering Isles, they will explain their duty: "The Shivering Isles are a reflection of our Lord Sheogorath. Divided, yet perfect."
Dark Seducers exhibit little beyond their appearance to match their names, and can seldom be considered seductive. While they too assert their superiority over all others in the realm, they appear to have a more patient, introspective nature than their Golden Saint rivals. They often appear humble in their dealings with mortals, and are known to be patient with the "lesser races". Like the Golden Saints, they are a matriarchal society, with the males playing secondary roles. They call themselves Mazken. Many Dark Seducers serve as guards in Crucible of New Sheoth: "The Mazken guard Crucible in New Sheoth. We ensure the Demented remain orderly and respectful of our Lord Sheogorath". The named Dark Seducers are Adeo, Dylora, Autkendo Jansa, Nelrene, Stela, Grakendo Udico, Grakedrig Ulfri and Vika.
No Dark Seducers, whether named or not, have the persuasion option available in their dialogue menu.
Most of the Dark Seducers are related to Shivering Isle's Main Quest. They generally have no unique name. The generic varieties of Dark Seducer that you may encounter are:
- Dark Seducer
- Dark Seducer Guard
- Dark Seducer Archer
- Dark Seducer Soldier
- Dark Seducer Warrior
- Dark Seducer Mage
- Dark Seducer Kiskedrig
- Dark Seducer Grakedrig
For more information about Dark Seducers, see the Lore article.
RanksEdit
All Dark Seducers have ranks. In theory, there are seven ranks. Only four ranks are used in-game, however. The ranks are as follows:
- Kiskengo
- Kiskella
- Kiskedrig
- Grakendo
- Grakella
- Grakedrig
- Autkendo
Most Dark Seducers are ranked at Kiskengo. From this we can assume this is equivalent to a soldier. Only three other ranks are used: Grakendo (Grakendo Udico), Grakedrig (Grakedrig Ulfri), and Autkendo (Autkendo Jansa).
StatisticsEdit
In the Shivering Isles, the Dark Seducers are not creatures but NPCs.

EquipmentEdit
They wear light armor and carry a mace, axe, shortsword, longsword, and/or a bow. Specific details on the weapons carried by Dark Seducers is provided in the Weapons article. Every armor and weapon (including bow and arrow) are always strongest for the Seducer's level.
SpellsEdit
All Dark Seducers will be able to cast two randomly selected spells: a powerful major Alteration spell and a powerful major Restoration spell. In each case the effect is randomly determined from the following list while the strength of the spell is randomly based on the seducer's skill level. The possible effects for each school are:
- Alteration: Burden, Fire Shield, Frost Shield, Shield † and Shock Shield
- Restoration: Absorb Fatigue, Absorb Health, Absorb Skill and Restore Health ‡
† This effect is listed three times in the leveled list and is therefore more likely to be chosen
‡ Similarly to the effect above, this one appears four times in the leveled list and is also more likely to be chosen
Certain Dark Seducers, in particular mages, will be able to cast a different set of leveled spells: a major Alteration spell, 1 major and 1 minor Destruction spell and a major Restoration spell. The possible effects for each school are:
- Alteration: Burden, Fire Shield, Frost Shield, Shield † and Shock Shield
- Destruction:
- 1 Damage Health, Drain Health, Fire Damage †, Frost Damage † or Shock Damage † (the damage spells may all be on touch or on target. minor)

GuardsEdit
Dark Seducer Guards will, like the guards of Cyrodiil, arrest you should you be caught committing a crime. All Dark Seducer guards wear their eponymous armor and helmets, however the player cannot loot these items from their bodies. All Dark Seducer guards respawn.
Guard PostsEdit
There are three identical Dark Seducer Guards, one found outside the Gate of Crucible, one standing next to the Dementia entrance to the Palace Grounds, and one outside the entrance to the Palace of Sheogorath itself. These guards will never leave their posts unless provoked.

Pinnacle Rock GuardsEdit
There are two identical Dark Seducers guarding the entrance to their storonghold Pinnacle Rock. Attempting to talk to them will be to no avail: "No mortal may enter the halls of Pinnacle Rock." If you are a Duke/Duchess, they will be more polite: "Forgive me, Your Grace, but you are not permitted to pass within Pinnacle Rock." Even after having finished the Main Quest as Duke/Duchess of Mania, they will deny you entry: "Lord, you know that Pinnacle Rock is ours and ours alone. You may not enter." You may only enter during and after The Helpless Army, provided you're the Duke/Duchess of Mania, at which point they will be disabled.

The Cold Flame of AgnonEdit
There is a large contingent of Mazken guarding the Alter of Despair at Cylarne along with Stela and their commander Grakedrig Ulfri. During The Cold Flame of Agnon these Dark Seducers will seek to defend the Alter of Despair and repel an attack from their rivals the Golden Saints. You can ask any of these Mazken for some information. If you ask them about the Flame of Agnon they'll explain: "The holy Flame can only be lit from the Altars of Despair and Rapture. Alas, the Aureals hold Rapture... for now. You should speak to the Grakedrig Ulfri at once. She will be glad of your help to rid Cylarne of the arrogant Aureals once and for all." (This unlocks the topics Ulfri, Alter of Despair, Alter of Rapture, and Aureal). You can ask them about Ulfri: "She is the Grakedrig -- commander -- of the Mazken here at Cylarne. She has never yet been defeated by the Aureals, despite their strength." (This unlocks the topics Pinnacle Rock and Mazken). When you ask about Pinnacle Rock they'll explain: "Our fortress and sanctuary here in the Shivering Isles." When asking about the Alter of Despair you may get two answers. If you are not yet at the Alter they'll say: "We hold the Altar of Despair, here within the Shrine of the Flame of Agnon." If you are close to the Alter they'll answer "You have found it. The holiest of holies within Cylarne, aside from the altar of the Flame of Agnon itself." If asked about the Alter of Rapture the Mazken will respond: "The counterpart to the Altar of Despair. Rapture is currently held by the Aureals, in their complacency, but that will soon change." If you chose to help Grakedrig Ulfri take all of Cylarne and all the Golden Saints have been killed, the surviving Dark Seducers will pray at the Altar of Despair as Grakedrig Ulfri sacrifices herself. After the sacrifice, they will wander the cell.
Ulfri's BodyguardsEdit
Two Mazken soldiers serve as bodyguards to the Grakedrig Ulfri and will participate in the battle at Cylarne. One is slightly stronger than the other.

Alter of Despair Melee SoldiersEdit
These Dark Seducers will participate in the battle for Cylarne and primarily use blunt and blade weapons. The Mazken that appear right away or later during the battle depend on which side is chosen during the quest, as well has the recommendation given to each side on their offensive or defensive strategy. Some Seducers will only appear if the Mazken are advised to defend the Underkeep during the quest.
Alter of Despair ArchersEdit
These Dark Seducers will participate in the battle for Cylarne and primarily use ranged tactics and bows. Like the melee soldiers, the number of archers that spawn and the quest stage of their appearance depends on which side you choose and which battle plan you suggest to each side.
Post-Battle SeducersEdit
If the Dark Seducers took over Cylarne four identical soldiers will be permanently stationed at the holy ruin as a garrison. These Mazken will remark how pleased they are with their victory: "Your betrayal of the Aureals was a strategem worthy of one of my own people! Victory by means of treachery is the sweetest kind." If killed none of these Dark Seducers will respawn.

The Ritual of DementiaEdit
You will face numerous hostile Dark Seducers as you seek to supplant Syl as Duke/Duchess in the Ritual of Dementia quest. Some of these Mazken standing in your way can be avoided by making strategic choices during the quest as you make your way through the restricted sections of the Palace Dementia wing. None of the hostile Dark Seducers encountered in this quest will respawn. Any Mazken that survive the quest will no longer be hostile as soon as the Ritual of Dementia is complete and you are appointed as the new Duke/Duchess of Dementia. You will also gain full access to all areas of the Dementia wing of the Palace, including the sections of Xirethard under control of the Dark Seducers.
Private Gardens Royal GuardsEdit
The Private Gardens are guarded at all times by two elite Dark Seducer Royal Guards who will attack you and any other interlopers on sight. During the Ritual of Dementia, Anya Herrick will offer to distract these guards if you speak to her with a disposition of at least 60. If you accept her help the Private Gardens Royal Guards will be disabled.

DialogueEdit
General DialogueEdit
Most Dark Seducers share the same dialogue lines; although unlike most NPC dialogue, they depend on location or quest progress. No Dark Seducers whether named or not, have the persuasion option available in their dialogue menu.
Upon seeing you, they may say:
- "Blessings, citizen."
- "How may I serve?"
As well as greeting you:
- "Madgod's blessings."
Provided you haven't finished the Main Quest, their "goodbye" will always be the same kindly line:
- "Walk with our lord."
You may see citizens of Crucible attempting to converse with a guard, to no avail:
- "Blessings of the Madgod, citizen. Walk without fear."
- "Duty calls, citizen. Madgod's blessings upon you."
- "This Mazken must return to duty."
- "Apologies, citizen, but I must return to my post."
- "Your pardon, citizen. I must return to my post."
If you catch them talking to each other, the conversation won't last very long:
- "Blessings, dark sister." (female to female)
- "Quickly, worm." (female to male)
- "Blessings, brother." (male to male)
- "All glory, mistress." (male to female)
When attacking, they may shout one of the following:
- "For Sheogorath!"
- "For the Madgod!"
- "Mazken!"
- "E'Tah Mazken!"
When you've become the Duke/Duchess of Mania/Dementia, they will be very respectful. They may say one of the following upon seeing you:
- "Your Seducers are at the ready, Your Grace." (Duke/Duchess of Dementia)
- "You honor me, Your Grace."
- "Your Grace."
- "Madgod's blessings, Duchess of Mania." (Only female variant)
When you've become the Mad God, they will be more subservient. They may say one of the following upon seeing you:
- "You honor me, Lord."
- "Your humble servant, My Lord."
When starting a conversation as the Mad God, they will greet you as follows:
- "Allow me to serve you, my Lord."
- "How may I serve you, Lord?"
After finishing a conversation with them as the Mad God, they will say the following:
- "You bless me, Lord."
- "We live at your whim, Lord Sheogorath."
Guard DialogueEdit
This page or section is incomplete. You can help by adding to it. seems to be missing dialogue heard as Madgod For more information, see the help files, the style guide, and this article's talk page. |
When you have committed a crime, a guard may run up to you and say one the following lines:
- "Halt, lawbreaker! Lord Sheogorath's justice demands reparations or it's the dungeon for you. Any stolen goods will be confiscated."
- "Drop your weapon! Hand over your stolen goods and face the Lord's justice. Pay your due reparations, or it's the dungeon for you."
- "You thought you could escape Lord Sheogorath's justice? Your stolen goods are now forfeit, and you can either pay reparations or face the dungeons."
If you haven't got enough gold to pay off your bounty, they may say one of the following lines upon catching you:
- "Halt, scofflaw! You can't afford to pay reparations for your crimes, so it's off to the dungeon for you. Your stolen goods are now forfeit."
- "Come with me, scum. Those who can't afford to pay reparations must face Lord Sheogorath's dungeons. I'm confiscating your stolen goods as well."
- "Hand over your stolen property, lawbreaker! If only you could afford to pay reparations... too bad, it's the dungeon for you."
You can either:
- Pay gold
- "Come with me. You'll be searched for stolen property, then released." (if their disposition is higher than 50)
- "A coward as well as a criminal. Very well, perhaps I'll have a chance to test your mettle another day. You'll come with me, and you'll be searched for stolen property and pay reparations. Then, you're free to go."
- Resist arrest
- "You're a fool as well as a criminal, it seems."
- "Then your blood stands forfeit for your crimes"
- "Then your punishment is death."
- Or go to jail
- "Use your time well, to consider my Lord Sheogorath's merciful justice. " (if their disposition is 50 or higher)
- "A prison cell is better than you deserve, mortal scum."
If a Guard somehow catches you at The Fringe, you can only resist arrest:
- "The Fringe is outside Lord Sheogorath's mercy... but not his justice."
If you are the Duke/Duchess of Mania/Dementia, you will find that the Dark Seducers are more courteous and polite if they catch you committing a crime:
- "Your Grace, you have committed a crime. Only the Lord Sheogorath is above the laws of this Realm. You must return any property that does not belong to you. Now, will you serve your sentence in the dungeon, or pay reparations?"
If, in this case, you don't have enough gold to pay off your bounty, they will say the following:
- "My pardon, Your Grace, but Lord Sheogorath's justice applies to all within His Realm. You must return any stolen items. I regret that I have no choice but to escort you to the dungeon, as you are short of the required reparations."
You can either:
- Pay gold
- "Please come with me, Your Grace. According to the law, any stolen property must be handed over, then you're free to go."
- Resist arrest
- "Then you leave me no choice. My duty to Lord Sheogorath requires me to use force." (Duke/Duchess of Dementia)
- "You may rule Mania, but you will learn that Lord Sheogorath's justice still applies to you!" (Duke/Duchess of Mania)
- Go to jail
- "Thank you for your cooperation in this unfortunate matter, Your Grace."
Contrary to what guards may say to Dukes/Duchesses, even after having finished the Main Quest, a guard may run up to you after you've committed a crime:
- "I'm sorry to bother you, Lord, but there seems to have been a misunderstanding. A small token of your appreciation might clear this up, or perhaps it's better if we leave at this time."
- Go with Guards
- "Thank you for Your understanding my Lord. I am required by Your own command to ask for any items that You may have inadvertently borrowed. Now follow me and we'll find a quiet place away from all this trouble. I trust you'll clear up this matter in your own time, in your own way."
- Pay Gold
- "Very good, my Lord. As you know, I must also take any items that might be considered stolen, in order to preserve the peace and justice of the Realm. Please follow me and we'll have this matter cleared up in no time."
- Fight Guards
- "My Lord you do me too much honor! It will be glorious to fall in battle at Your hand!"
Unless the respective quest has been started or finished, the guards outside Pinnacle Rock will tell you that you cannot go in:
- "No mortal may enter the halls of Pinnacle Rock."
- "Forgive me, Your Grace, but you are not permitted to pass within Pinnacle Rock." (If you are Duke/Duchess)
- "Lord, you know that Pinnacle Rock is ours and ours alone. You may not enter." (As Mad God)
GalleryEdit
NotesEdit
- Dark Seducers cannot be persuaded through the Speechcraft minigame.
There are unused recorded lines in the DLCShiveringIsles.esp file for the Mazken in the final battle with Jyggalag, implying that the obelisks were meant to shield and protect Jyggalag, and had to be deactivated to expose him:
- "The Obelisks feed their power!"
- "The Obelisks strengthen the false god. We must shut them down!"
- "Jyggalag is strengthened by the Obelisks!""
- "The false god resists our attacks. The Obelisks must be shut down!"
- "The Obelisks shield him from our attacks! Shut down the obelisks at once."
- "The Obelisks give him strength. We need to shut down the Obelisks of Order."
However, these lines are not captioned and do not have any Master Record References unlike the rest of the dialogue.
BugsEdit
- Dark Seducers refer to male characters as "The Duchess of Mania." The bug is due to the Dark Seducer dialogue checking their own gender instead of the player's gender.
- The Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch fixes this bug.
