AncanoEdit

Hey Dwarfmp! I haven’t seen you on IRC today, so I thought I’d point you towards my more-or-less finished Sandbox – and I hope you want to snap the last images to make it pretty. Here’s a list of suggestions, although you can decorate the page any way you like, as always:

  • A totally “normal” image of Ancano when he shows up in the Arcanaeum during Hitting the books. Caption: "You there. I have questions for you."
  • An image of the conversation with Tolfdir during Good Intentions
  • An image of the conversation with Quaranir during Good Intentions
  • An image of Ancano, completely surrounded by magic during Containment.
  • An image of Ancano attacking you during The Eye of Magnus.

With these five images, the walls of text should be less obvious, and it will become more and more “flashy” as it goes along. I hope you can find the time! Thanks in advance! ☺--Krusty (talk) 16:08, 16 January 2013 (GMT)

Images-Linked But Not EmbeddedEdit

Just wondering what the purpose was behind this edit? Is there some rule against putting an image on a talk page, or something else that I am not aware of? If I had've wanted to link the image, rather than place it as a thumb, I would have done so. I was under the impression that changing someone else's contributions to a talk page is generally frowned upon, unless it is clearly vandalism. I'm happy to be corrected if I have made a mistake, but I would like to know what I did wrong. Darictalk 13:57, 6 March 2013 (GMT)

Hi Daric, I went ahead and restored the thumb for you. Thumbs and links to images are generally fine on talk pages; it's just embedding the whole image that can be a pain, because they're usually quite large and take over the whole page. Yours really isn't in the way, though, so might as well save people a click :). eshetalk 14:27, 6 March 2013 (GMT)
Well yeah we've talked about it in the chat, but if you think it's fine, alright then ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 14:38, 6 March 2013 (GMT)
Thanks for that eshe. I have no problems with people editing my contributions, but being an active regular on the site these days, it is nice if I can be included in decisions that affect my contributions. If I was just someone who had made a single edit or two and then disappeared from the wiki, it would be understandable. But I'm here, and always open to being corrected if I make a mistake. Please hit me up on my talk page if you see something like this again from me that irks you, Dwarfmp. I'm still learning the finer nuances of editing the UESP, and I'm always happy to be corrected, I just like to be able to understand what was wrong, and maybe have the chance to correct it myself if need be. Darictalk 23:07, 6 March 2013 (GMT)
Of course, back when I was new I did very much the same: asking questions. That's a good sign! I'll keep in mind to inform you should "a mistake" turn up, and that I ask around before actually assuming... kind of like when I was new I suppose :P ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 23:11, 6 March 2013 (GMT)

I messed upEdit

I have to highlight to you that I did not follow proper blocking protocol just now. I took only a cursory look at the recent changes to determine that the serial vandal had received a warning and had vandalized again since then, and he seemed to be on a roll. But that all happened within a minute, and the blocking policy says I should've given him more time to see the warning. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 04:29, 16 March 2013 (GMT)

Meh, if you didn't, it would have most likely just continued ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 04:32, 16 March 2013 (GMT)
EDIT: Notice how I messed up trying to delete the vandal revisions and ended up deleting all the good ones except the bad ones... then I've been clicking all the boxes except for the vandal ones for like 5 minutes, and only noticed an "invert selection box" when I was finally done. Sigh... ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 04:52, 16 March 2013 (GMT)

Plug-ins → DLCEdit

Hey Dwarf, I was just checking for double redirects and saw the move from plug-ins to DLC. I'm assuming I missed a discussion somewhere, but whatever, I like DLC better anyway, and it's much easier to type out in a link ;). Anyway, unless this is still being talked about somewhere, I'd be happy to fix the double redirect and update links later today (many pages I've done, and I'm sure there are more, say "plug-in" instead of DLC). Just thought I'd let you know in case I was missing something. Thanks! eshetalk 15:25, 3 April 2013 (GMT)

Honestly, I was brash and just moved it without discussion in an unprofessional manner. The current situation is... unclear. It came up in the Dawnguard vs Dragonborn discussion on the community portal, but a discussion on the matter in particular was started afterwards on its talk page here ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 19:04, 3 April 2013 (GMT)

Just say sorryEdit

Forgive me for my rudeness, if the edit here is really offensive. Just hope it can be of any help to you. I failed to notice that this page can't be edited by anyone. Dreamshadow (talk) 11:22, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

Sandboxes in general are only to be edited by the person that created it, which is exactly why they're personal sandboxes. The notice on top is to make sure people know Krusty was able to edit this page when they'd see him making large and numerous edits (even though you can assume I asked him to when something like that happened). Since most content is work in progress, it's likely to be incomplete or have some spelling mistakes etc. You can imagine how a wave of edits by other users correcting your work as you're still working on it to be extremely annoying, that is why the general rule to all userspace pages applies here as well.
That said, I'm not offended or anything, but I was going to add it later myself (if I don't forget to check for more dialogue) ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 12:35, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
Thanks for your guidance. I didn't mean to mess things up. Sometimes, I'm too eager to see the improvement of many pages. Maybe I can handle them myself, maybe not. However, I'll try my best to help. Dreamshadow (talk) 14:08, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

I'm stuckEdit

need help, I'm stuck in sneak mode. Even when I try loading previous saves. My followers are walking normal. — Unsigned comment by Plainsmam58 (talkcontribs) on 25 April, 2013

As mentioned in the IRC, sitting in a chair and getting up fixes this, and this has been appropriately confirmed on the sneak page ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 19:47, 25 April 2013 (GMT)
Actually, the confirmation did not come there until some time right after Plainsmam58's question here, but the bug has however been noted there for a long time anyway. —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:14, 25 April 2013 (GMT)
That's what I said, it's been confirmed now ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 20:17, 25 April 2013 (GMT)
Sorry. I think it is just me being a bit tired making me read something else into it. —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:24, 25 April 2013 (GMT)

Does NOT fix the problem.Edit

"To get Serana following again after asking her to "Wait", go somewhere far away (like inside Fort Dawnguard) and wait three to five days."

And now thanks to this crap game and it's glitches i have now lost two days-22 levels to a restart if I even want to. — Unsigned comment by 24.15.45.90 (talk) on 4 May 2013

The bugs sections on the Skyrim pages are a mess. It's basically a compilation of random people's contributions, half of the time possibly incorrect anyway. I'm not sure if I can help you at all, or what your purpose of this message is, but if you're on a console I'm afraid I cannot help you ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 02:39, 5 May 2013 (GMT)

Not Worth Mentioning....Edit

How is it not worth mentioning what followers' skills cap at? Faendal caps at level 30 with only 28 sneak while Eola caps at 30 with 78 sneak. That is a huge difference. They both have sneak in bold font in the primary skills section. There is no way for players to tell from the information currently on the page. Perhaps you expect them to look up the class, figure out how large the increase is per level, look up the race benefits, add up the base values, and calculate the increases based on the level cap? Because that would be so much simpler... It's hard for me to follow your train of thought when the page is basically a stub anyway. 108.180.175.37 20:03, 5 May 2013 (GMT)

Maybe you should make a Followers stats page. I don't know what other followers have to do with Faendal. You could have easily just added the maximum levels as a note, and leave out those other (practically) untouched levels ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 20:11, 5 May 2013 (GMT)
That would work very well as a table. You can put a note in the descriptions that Eola is better at Sneak, then link to the page with the table. LordXenophon (talk) 20:17, 5 May 2013 (GMT)
This sort of information probably deserves to be somewhere on the wiki, but in a more condensed form. I like the idea of having a section on the Skyrim:Followers page that lists skill level info for each follower. Is this worth bringing up on the Community Portal? --Xyzzy Talk 21:12, 5 May 2013 (GMT)
You can address this on the CP yeah, sure ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 21:20, 5 May 2013 (GMT)

Teleportation pageEdit

Hey, Dwarf. I was going to create a page for the Teleportation spell that Orchendor has, and noticed that you deleted a version of it awhile back. Since I can't see what the page looked like, could you please give me a little guidance so that I don't end up recreating something that isn't useful? I started a very basic page in my sandbox. Thanks. --Xyzzy Talk 14:24, 16 June 2013 (GMT)

It was proposed for deletion because it was turned into a redirect to the powers page (which did not contain info on it so it seems). The info on it before was the following:
Teleportation is a spell who uses a script effect. Using it on player
(by the console[0008972a]) will have no effect, as the script disables
the user, moves to a specific Cell Point and enables the user again.
NPCs who uses the script are usually enemies like Sigdis Gauldurson or Jyrik Gauldurson.
Powerful Enemies or Bosses from dungeons also uses the spell.
This also happens with the teleporting spell of the Psijic Order. ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 14:30, 16 June 2013 (GMT)
Thank you. I intend for it to look something like Vile Vapor. --Xyzzy Talk 14:35, 16 June 2013 (GMT)

Wipsandbox NoticeEdit

Hey there! This is a courtesy notice to let you know that your wipsandbox-tag on the articles Skyrim:Avulstein Gray-Mane, Skyrim:Irileth and Skyrim:Brynjolf has been removed, as per this message. If you still want to work on the article, feel free to re-add the tag, but please consider that the tag prevents other editors from improving the article. If you have unfinished work in your sandbox, you can add it to the article – but please add the {{incomplete}}-tag to let other users know where you stopped. Thanks in advance! --Krusty (talk) 20:33, 2 July 2013 (GMT)

As you undoubtedly know, I've been a bit out of Skyrim for a while. I've taken a quick look at those sandboxes, and they're all in a rough shape somewhere. I'd also think it a shame to publish them like that fixed up anyway, since they're not complete. Irileth and Avulstein don't need much work on them anymore, Irileth mainly needs images; and I know there's at least 1 dialogue line missing for Avulstein, but not much more than that. Someone ought to use these, there must be people willing to do this, I'd hate to see my efforts (slow and lazy, but efforts nevertheless) to go to waste, your efforts too at that ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 12:53, 5 July 2013 (GMT)

Female Imperial In Tsun's ArmorEdit

What does it look like? I am curious to know because they might have not done a female variant because they only did a variant for Tsun. Also, it is meant to be unobtainable. Dragon Guard (talk) 16:01, 3 August 2013 (GMT)

I'm going over some unique equipment right now, and I'll make sure to check it out ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 16:04, 3 August 2013 (GMT)
Thanks! Dragon Guard (talk) 16:05, 3 August 2013 (GMT)
No dice. It looks like leather armor, but I didn't expect it to actually have a model. It sure would've been much nicer to look at ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 16:15, 3 August 2013 (GMT)
Upload a image of female Tsun's Armor. Dragon Guard (talk) 16:21, 3 August 2013 (GMT)
No it's just leather armor, there's no reason to upload it ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 16:23, 3 August 2013 (GMT)

() You can upload it. This Page is missing the thumbnails for Tsun's Armor. Would be doing a little cleanup while screenshoting. Dragon Guard (talk) 16:43, 3 August 2013 (GMT)

I doubt there are actual icons for it, besides, I don't do icons ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 21:06, 3 August 2013 (GMT)
There's an image of leather armor here, although I don't see any reason to put it on the page for Tsun's armor. —Legoless (talk) 22:31, 3 August 2013 (GMT)

Talk page mess-upEdit

I don't know how the heck it happened. I just was, going to reply to your post on here, and somehow, it messed the talk page up. Dragon Guard (talk) 16:50, 3 August 2013 (GMT)

HELPEdit

Hi mr admin. I have recently spent a couple of hours writing a story on my user page about my characters adventures in both the Skyrim and Oblivion games. Unfotunatley the system thinks I'm spamming so it said contact an admin if I'm not spamming. I have pasted my story onto my notes on my tablet, but want to know how I can get my story on my user page without being stopped because it is not harmful. If you can help me in any way, please do. Thank you, Dunmer Lord 15

My sources tell me your account needs to be 4 days old in order to bypass the bulk filter. You can add content in smaller edits or wait for your account to be 4 days old ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 18:00, 19 August 2013 (GMT)
Ok thank you very much. You will be the first to know as soon as I get my story posted :) Dunmer Lord 15

Ancano's Combat DialogueEdit

It isn't in the CSList yet. Please can you get it from the CK and put it on the page? Thanks in advance! Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 10:26, 26 August 2013 (GMT)

Are you asking me to add things to CSList? I never use it nor do I have any knowledge of it, I stay clear of it. You should ask Nephele if any data is missing, since she's the one that created it, and I think also the only one able to change it ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 17:12, 28 August 2013 (GMT)
Dragon Guard, I just checked both the cslist and Ancano's page. I don't know what you are talking about. His combat dialogue is present on both pages.--AN|L (talk) 17:21, 28 August 2013 (GMT)
My mistake. On things in CSList that is combat dialogue, I normally look at the voicetype, e.g. MaleUniqueAncano. Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 07:19, 30 August 2013 (GMT)

Redundant ImagesEdit

Hey Dwarf. Not sure I see the reasoning behind a lot of the replacement Imperial City images you've been uploading, for example here. The improvements made are marginal. Nothing wrong with replacing them, especially if you're going through the house pages anyway, but it seems a bit wasteful. —Legoless (talk) 21:27, 20 November 2013 (GMT)

The images I've replaced are mostly old and smaller than the image size we would prefer (we've decided that "unofficially" we'd prefer images of at least 800 pixels, somewhere, shortly before Skyrim came out I believe). I'm not saying my images are always that much better, no. But do notice how for example, the one you've mentioned now had less anti-aliasing and was smaller in size (and I feel the lighting and color is also better, but that might just be personal taste). In either case, I believe it's an improvement in all cases I've uploaded (at least when it comes to image quality). I wouldn't upload a new image if I feel it isn't better than the previous. And it is as you said, I'm out there taking shots, so I might as well. It's not like I'm going to do something else. It comes down to having better images or not ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 05:45, 21 November 2013 (GMT)
I'll leave you to it then. —Legoless (talk) 14:08, 23 November 2013 (GMT)

Images quality questionEdit

Hi Dwarfmp! I am chasing Heroes in the Hall of Valor "with my camera" for several days now and I believe that my images became better. But I wanted to make sure I am going in the right direction before making too many changes for patrollers to go through. Do you think this screenshot is good now? Is this one too bright now? Any other suggestions? Thanks! Shuryard (talk) 20:39, 30 January 2014 (GMT)

Lighting's good on the first, second one is a little too bright. Resolution is on the low side though, but maybe you don't have a bigger screen than that. Just make sure you max the graphics, but it'll do for now ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 21:49, 30 January 2014 (GMT)
Thank you! And yes, that's the highest my screen can go... ~ Shuryard (talk) 21:54, 30 January 2014 (GMT)

Talk Page AppreciationEdit

Hey, Dwarfmp! I got an email notify that you had added a talk page for me. And then when I log in, there's a message as well.

Thanks for the time! Pretty cool, helpful stuff. You guys are doing some great stuff here. o_o Mizagorn (talk) 18:04, 9 February 2014 (GMT)

NPC Skjorta, note on nameEdit

Ok, trying again after the rejection of my fine edit on NPC Rune :'(. I saw that the note that Skjorta means Shirt in Swedish/Norweigan was deleted from the article. I think that this is most relevant and defines her character since she is a clothes merchant! /Fredrik — Unsigned comment by 90.230.93.89 (talk) on 25 June, 2014

Notes on name terminology have been removed in the past, and this was disputed. I myself, agree that Skjorta's name is noteworthy ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 23:55, 24 June 2014 (GMT)

Hello from Wheelman_23 and I CAN'T GET INTO THE CHAT, MAN !!!Edit

Hello Dwarfmp, how you doing, buddy ? I hope well !!! I can't get into the chat, man !!! I have nice news on the POSSIBLE new "Skyrim-related item" that Bethesda is trying to get to me : I heard a recent update stating that it should be here toward the end of the week. HadvarEdit

Hi there, I saw you editing Hadvar's article, and since I wrote most of it, I'd like to know what you meant by the page being "still a mess". Any feedback would be appreciated; I'm always looking to improve my writing so other editors don't have to spend as much time cleaning it up. Also, I'm curious as to why you changed the commas before dialogue to colons, because AFAIK commas are more commonly used. —<({QT>> 14:26, 3 October 2014 (GMT)

The comma/colon thing is a personal preference of certain editors. It is perfectly acceptable (and grammatically correct) to use the commas as you have. — ABCface 14:36, 3 October 2014 (GMT)
When I joined the site, I've always seen colons, and have always been using colons, and back then saw everyone else use colons. I don't know when the practice of commas started. I've always believed colons to be the standard way of preceding dialogue lines, regardless of preference or grammatical correctness. As of the mess, I've seen dialogue lines split up even though they directly follow one another, and have put them after each other where I know they follow each other as such, and I'm assuming there are those still split up where it isn't supposed to be. I hope I didn't offend you by calling it a mess, you're a good editor and I wouldn't want to claim otherwise ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 14:59, 3 October 2014 (GMT)
Alright, I see now. I was confused earlier because I've always used commas and thought it was a preference like Alphabetface said. I believe it's not necessary to change either commas or colons as long as their use is consistent in the article. I split up the longer dialogue lines to vary the formatting and avoid multiple sentences that only consist of italic quotes. If I recall correctly, nobody took issue with this until now. It's okay though, I was just wondering about my writing quality. —<({QT>> 15:48, 3 October 2014 (GMT)
As has already been said, it's generally up to the writer, but I've also seen suggested guidelines that shorter phrases should use commas while longer quotes, especially those that encompass more than one sentence, should use colons. Of course, fiction pretty much always uses commas, whereas dialogue of the "he said, she said" variety, like in a play, invariably uses colons, usually without any quotes at all. Isn't English grammar fun? Robin Hood  (talk) 20:26, 3 October 2014 (GMT)

Warning / blockingEdit

Hi Dwarfmp, I know that it's quite nonsensical to warn a bot :). Also, I'm not happy to put a third edit on the RC related to the vandalism - after the vandal edit itself and my edit adding the speedy delete. By giving the warning I just wanted to put myself in a position that allowed me to temporarily block the IP in case of continued spamming, following the rules outlined under Blocking an Account. If I don't get it wrong, I am only allowed to temporarily block (Step 2) a user or an IP after a warning (Step 1) has been posted: "Although this three-step process is the normal procedure, administrators have the authority to bypass one or more steps at their discretion." Should the section be reworded so that it becomes clear that blockusers also have the authority to block without warning under certain circumstances? --Holomay (talk) 13:22, 4 October 2014 (GMT)

Thing is, temporary blocks aren't useful for bots and spammers, because they rarely make more than 1 edit. They're useful for when someone keeps vandalizing the site, and in such case, giving a warning does make sense, and actually works if you're lucky. But, maybe a blocker should be able to block someone who's already vandalized a lot of pages without needing to warn them first. I think this is probably better discussed on the AN though ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 15:30, 4 October 2014 (GMT)
