Oblivion:Wayshrines

< Oblivion: Places(Redirected from Oblivion:Wayshrine of Mara)
The Wayshrine of Dibella southeast of the Drunken Dragon Inn

Wayshrines are scattered across the landscape in Cyrodiil; they will not appear on your compass and do not have map markers. Each appears as a circle of white columns surrounding a stone basin. Each wayshrine is dedicated to one of the Nine Divines. Akatosh and Julianos have four wayshrines; the other Divines each have three. Using a wayshrine will grant a blessing consisting of healing (cure diseases, restore all attributes by 100 points, and restore health by 200 points) and a spell that fortifies one or more attributes by 10 points for 600 seconds.

Without the Knights of the Nine official download installed, wayshrines to a given Divine can only be used once at a given level of Fame; to use that Divine's wayshrines again, you must first increase your Fame. However, wayshrines can be used even if you have Infamy or a bounty. With the official download installed, wayshrines can be used as often as you want, but only if your character's Infamy is 0 and you are not wearing the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal.

Completing the Pilgrimage of the Nine Divines by visiting one wayshrine for each of the nine Divines grants the greater power Pilgrim's Grace (fortify all attributes by 10 points for 300 seconds). With the Knights of the Nine official download installed, visiting one wayshrine for each of the nine Divines becomes a quest, Pilgrimage, which results in clearing your Infamy and making you a member of the Nine Divines faction. With the official download installed, you will only receive the Pilgrim's Grace greater power if you have 0 Infamy when you complete the pilgrimage; otherwise, you will need to complete the entire pilgrimage again (with 0 Infamy) in order to receive the power.

The Pilgrimage of the Nine Divines: Suggested ToursEdit

Below are two fairly efficient pilgrimage tours involving visits to one wayshrine for each of the nine Divines, useful to obtain the greater power Pilgrim's Grace and/or to complete the quest Pilgrimage. The "road tour" is likely safer, albeit slower, and requires no fast travel, while the "fast tour" requires fast travel to previously discovered locations. However, these tours are not the only possible pilgrimage routes.

Road TourEdit

Part I: The Imperial City Circle

  • Julianos: Start at Chestnut Handy Stables outside the Imperial City. Head west, and take the first right before the grand bridge. Proceed north, following the eastern shore of Lake Rumare until you reach the wayshrine. (map)
  • Dibella: Return to the grand bridge, and cross it to the west. On the far side, take the first left, and head south on the Red Ring Road past Fanacasecul and Fort Virtue to the wayshrine. (map)
  • Zenithar: Continue southeast on the Red Ring Road, keeping watch for bandits. Turn right onto the Green Road toward Bravil. At a fork in the road, bear right (southwest) onto a short path the map displays as a dead end. On the right is the Faregyl Inn, with the wayshrine to the left. (map)
  • Stendarr: Backtrack from the Faregyl Inn to the Red Ring Road or cross the wilderness to the northeast to reach the grand bridge across the Niben River on the southeastern side of Lake Rumare. Continue east then north on the Red Ring Road until you pass the destroyed shop All Things Alchemical, then turn left and head west to the shore of the lake. Follow the coast north to the wayshrine on the shore. (map)

Part II: The Skingrad Circuit

  • Kynareth: Start at the lower east gate of Skingrad. Head east on the Gold Road to the first intersection; if there's a signpost and a cemetery at the intersection, you've gone too far. Head southeast up the steep slope to the top of the hill, where you will find the wayshrine. (If you have progressed far enough in the main quest, an Oblivion Gate will open on top of this wayshrine, but it can still be used; see notes.) (map)
  • Arkay: Return to the intersection at the bottom of the hill. Follow the road south and then east until it leads to Silorn. From the easternmost part of the ruin, head south uphill until you reach the wayshrine. (map)
  • Akatosh: Return to Silorn. This time, head east until you reach the wayshrine. (map)
  • Mara: Return to Skingrad, and exit through the west gate. At the flowery roundabout, head west toward Cursed Mine and its occasional bandit. On the other side of the mine's hill, continue northwest across the meadow toward the wayshrine, under the letter "S" in "Skingrad" on the map. (map)
  • Talos/Tiber Septim: Return to the Gold Road past the mine, and continue west on the road until you reach a stone bridge. Turn right and head north off the road toward the wayshrine. (map)

Fast TourEdit

Part I: The Imperial City Circle

Part II: The Skingrad Circuit

  • Kynareth: Fast travel to Castle Skingrad, and cross the bridge and head east. The wayshrine is on top of a small hill. (If you have progressed far enough in the main quest, an Oblivion Gate will open on top of this wayshrine, but it can still be used; see notes.) (map)
  • Arkay: Fast travel to Grateful Pass Stables outside Skingrad, and head south. The wayshrine is on top of a hill on your right. (map)
  • Talos/Tiber Septim: Return to Grateful Pass Stables, and head west off the road past Cursed Mine and Meridia's Shrine on your right. The wayshrine should be a little to your left. If you reach Miscarcand, you've gone too far. (map)

Standalones

  • Akatosh: Fast travel to Cheydinhal's west gate, go outside, and circuit the city counterclockwise. The wayshrine is across a pond, near the southern wall of the city. (map)
  • Zenithar: Fast travel to Bay Roan Stables outside Bravil, and head north. The wayshrine should be visible to the north. (map)
  • Mara: Fast travel to Horse Whisperer Stables outside Anvil, and head west-northwest. (If you have progressed far enough in the main quest, an Oblivion Gate will open on top of this wayshrine, and it can't be used; see notes.) (map)

NotesEdit

The partly buried but still usable wayshrine east of Skingrad
  • Once a wayshrine to a given Divine has been visited, a similar but weaker blessing can be acquired by using that Divine's altar in any chapel (fortify attribute(s) by 5 points for 300 seconds, or in the case of Arkay, fortify health by 10 points for 300 seconds).
  • Two Oblivion Gates appear directly on top of wayshrines. One gate appears on top of the wayshrine of Kynareth east of Skingrad (shown in the image); this wayshrine becomes partly buried, but can still be used. The other gate appears on top of the wayshrine of Mara northwest of Anvil; this wayshrine is completely destroyed. In both cases, the gates are fixed gates that will always appear when the quest Dagon Shrine is completed.
  • Two additional wayshrines can be found that cannot be used. One is west of Chorrol (map), and the other is far east of Bravil (map).
  • With the Knights of the Nine official download installed, all wayshrines of "Tiber Septim" are renamed as wayshrines of "Talos".
  • The pilgrimage tours suggested above are slightly more efficient than the tour marked on the Prophet's map.
  • Horses can also receive blessings at wayshrines. For more information, see here.
