Linguistics is the study of languages and scripts throughout the Aurbis. Telenger the Artificer, a scholar of languages, theorized that tongues may have an intrinsic magical property known as word-magic.[1] Words are sometimes used in magical incantations, which can be subverted by the use of silencing magic.[2]

- Some of the most powerful Tongues have voices so powerful they must remain gagged to prevent destruction. To communicate, these Tongues use sign language.[23]
- An unknown script associated with ancient magic surfaced in the Fourth Era. It was seen inscribed on the Eye of Magnus and on Draconic Word Walls in Apocrypha.[24][25]
